Chapter 164
“W-what is happening!”
“Welcome…”
Standing at the entrance of the ruined workshop, I awkwardly greeted Rigen, who was accompanied by what appeared to be wizards from the Celestial Realm. They all wore robes typical of the Celestial Realm, as if expecting to return.
“What on earth happened here?”
“There was a bit of an incident…”
An incident, indeed. A very big one. As I answered Rigen, I cast my gaze toward the ruined city. I had done my best to prevent casualties, but I couldn’t stop the roads from being overturned or the buildings from collapsing.
Thick black smoke billowed, and wizards, along with Trevel’s officials, rushed around busily.
I sat on a large rock and began to calmly explain the events to Rigen. He listened intently while the Celestial Realm wizards remained quiet, but then Rigen asked me with a trembling gaze.
“So… that thing flying in the sky earlier…?”
“Yes, that was an airship we made.”
“What… what happened to it?!”
I told him the truth. The airship split in two, engulfed in flames and crashed, completely shattering beyond recovery. The Trevel government even collected the scattered remains of the airship around the area.
Rigen exhaled deeply at my response, and I quickly added, “D-don’t worry! We can make another airship again soon.”
“Is that really the case…?”
“Yes, of course.”
I nodded confidently. Although the workshop was wrecked, the blueprints for the airship that Rigen created were saved in my mind.
I could create the blueprints anytime. I had the Golden Sword. If I returned to the Golden Desert and crafted an airship using the body of the Golden Dragon, I could make a far more durable airship than before.
Of course, making an airship wouldn’t solve all our problems. To power the airship, the most crucial component was the Core of Mana that allowed us to utilize magic.
Rigen seemed to recall this fact and asked me, “Then what about the Core of Mana… what happened to it?”
“I think we’ll have to find another way.”
Rigen sighed again at my answer. His face looked even older within just a few minutes. The wizards from the Celestial Realm who came with him also looked troubled. Some sighed in disappointment, while others nodded as if they hadn’t expected much.
At that moment, as Rigen and I exchanged silent glances, a group of people rapidly walked toward us through the crowd in the city, illuminated by the vivid glow of neon signs.
I recognized them through the flow of mana emanating from their uniforms and movements. They were certainly the official wizards of Trevel.
The wizards approached me, seemingly indifferent to Rigen and the Celestial Realm people, and came to a halt.
“I am Raijin, a level 3 wizard certified by Trevel.”
Among the approaching wizards, the one who appeared to hold the highest rank, Raijin, spoke up. He took a breath and said to me,
“You are charged with six counts: unauthorized use of magic, assault, use of dark magic, arson, terrorism, and illegal entry. Young wizard, if there is anything incorrect, speak now.”
His tone was not coercive. It was not oppressive. His voice was surprisingly soft, hard to believe for someone addressing a criminal. I frowned and tilted my head.
It was clear that these people had come with a different purpose, not to hold me accountable for my crimes.
The attention of the crowd began to focus in on us. Surprised, horrified, disgusted, angry, and various other sticky emotions mixed into their gazes.
Guilt, a feeling I had long buried, surged painfully within me. Turning my head, I saw that Rigen and the Celestial Realm wizards had already moved a good distance away from this spot.
I shook my head silently. Then, Raijin continued,
“Let’s detain him.”
At Raijin’s words, the surrounding wizards approached and cuffed me. The cuffs, filled with magical inscriptions, appeared to contain some special magic, but in reality, they held no magical effects at all.
– Not coercive at all?
– Is he really a criminal?
– I can’t believe it… how can such a cute and pretty kid be a terrorist? Isn’t the government misunderstanding something?
As I began to follow the certified wizards of Trevel, the voices of the townsfolk faded into the background. The wizards didn’t hurry my steps. They didn’t take my belongings either. They simply placed plausible cuffs on me and walked alongside me.
The certified wizards of Trevel walked down the wide road, apparently intending for as many people as possible to see me.
The place I was taken by the certified wizards was inside Trevel’s central castle. Their demeanor wasn’t one of treating me like a criminal but rather resembled that of welcoming a noble guest, leaving me quite confused.
I asked Raijin, who was leading the way, “W-wait, wasn’t I a criminal? Are you not taking me to some jail-like place?”
“It was a decision from above. We were instructed to escort you with as little discomfort as possible…”
“Above?”
Raijin shrugged at my question. The other wizards responded similarly.
The place Raijin guided me to was a luxurious-looking reception room. Upon entering, I saw an old man with white hair sitting and drinking tea, startled upon seeing me.
“Oh…”
His face showed surprise as he looked at me. I too could not help but be surprised. The outward flow of his mana was calm. However, the mana he harbored seemed to violently churn, as if it could unleash a fierce storm at any moment.
He was quite a powerful wizard.
“So, you are the culprit behind this incident…? For now, please take a seat.”
I turned to glance back at Raijin. He nodded as if confirming that his purpose was indeed to guide me here and stepped back.
The old man remained silent, seeming to wait patiently for me to calm down.
Cautiously, I looked around before sitting down on the opposite side of the old man. When I sat on the plush sofa, the cuffs on my hands clanked loudly.
“What are you thinking? From Trevel’s perspective, I was a heinous criminal…”
“That is not incorrect… Had it been any other time, you would have been in a prison, not here… Of course, whether you would have gone quietly is questionable.”
The old man replied, gently nudging a plate in front of him. The plate slid smoothly across the table, revealing a pile of cookies that looked quite delicious.
“I’m Isaac. What is your name and age?”
“I’m Seris… I’m fifteen years old.”
I cautiously took a cookie, glancing at Isaac. It didn’t taste particularly special. Just an ordinary cookie flavor.
“I investigated the debris scattered near Trevel’s central castle. That ship… they call it an airship in the Celestial Realm, right? Its internal structure is quite unique… an airship with a design similar to Trevel’s…”
I silently ate the cookie while waiting for Isaac to continue. He smiled lightly at my expression and continued speaking.
“Do you know who designed the internal structure of that airship?”
“I didn’t make the airship, but I did design the internal structure…”
Isaac’s eyes widened in surprise at my answer. He brushed his white hair away and replied.
“Really? At the age of fifteen?”
“Yes.”
“That’s astonishing…”
“Were you planning to call me just to ask that?”
Isaac, returning to a calm demeanor, took a sip of tea and after a considerable time, began to speak.
“Of course not, the real purpose is different. I heard that you used special magic to heal the injured.”
I nodded at his words. I couldn’t just ignore the injured and had used a large-scale healing spell. With so many witnesses, it seemed the news had reached Trevel’s leadership.
“Who is your magic teacher?”
I frowned at Isaac’s question. Based on the vast information I accumulated from my previous life, my magic was a manifestation of mystery; I couldn’t possibly point to a specific person and call them my teacher.
On paper, my teacher was Haiven, though.
“I created it on my own.”
Isaac fell silent at my answer. He took a sip of tea before asking again.
“Is that true? At the age of fifteen?”
“Yes.”
Isaac became silent again. He frowned and rubbed his forehead, softly caressing his white hair.
After a long silence as if contemplating something, Isaac finally spoke again.
“Seris, how about making a deal with us?”
“A deal?”
“I propose that you hand over your healing magic to us. In return, we will pardon your crimes.”
I stared blankly at Isaac’s words. Then, he continued.
“There was quite a significant commotion, but in the end, the city only suffered a bit of damage. Thanks to you, there were no casualties.”
“Really… you’ll let it go just like that?”
“Just like that…? Seris, do you not realize how remarkable the magic you’ve created is?”
“The healing magic… if there’s a priest who can use divine power…”
“Oh…”
“The priests of Trevel serve a god that uses mana instead of divine power. Thus, they are not that different from regular wizards. They can’t utilize divine power.”
“So then…”
“Oh, and one more thing.”
“Yes…?”
“Are you not interested in becoming a certified wizard in Trevel?”
“But I used dark magic…”
“Hmm. You don’t appear to me as a dark mage…”
Isaac said, his eyes shining as he looked at me. I had seen someone with a similar gaze in the past. Haiven, the wizard who exists on paper as my teacher. He would look at me with that kind of gaze.
I hesitated, rolling my eyes around as I tried to respond.
