Another World Reincarnation Chronicle

Chapter 101

It has been a week since I officially became a Wizard. I never really liked staying in one place for too long, but living in the Mage Tower wasn’t bad at all.

In fact, I wanted to stay longer. There was so much to learn here.

The Mage Tower was a place where many Wizards gathered, making it a whirlwind of incredible Mana. My sensitive body became more accustomed to the Mana of the tower as time passed.

I didn’t specifically seek anyone out to learn from. I merely observed and learned from my surroundings. With answer sheets scattered everywhere, why bother to search for someone?

Today was no different as I roamed freely among the many towers. In a trance from the undulating Mana around me, a rush of heat suddenly approached.

“Are you Seris?”

The voice came from behind me, accompanied by the heat. When I turned my head slightly, I saw a young man in a Red Robe looking down at me.

“And you are?”

His expression frowned at my question. After a moment of silence, he spoke.

“I am Vermilion of the Red Tower.”

He spoke as if boasting about himself. His confident demeanor, which seemed to look down on everything around him, hinted at his usual mindset.

“What brings you here?”

My voice sank low. My pleasant moment had been interrupted, and my tone couldn’t help but reflect that. Though, it probably came off as just a cute pout in girl terms.

“Well, it seems you don’t know who I am.”

Vermilion wasn’t particularly offended by my attitude. He nodded slightly, as if agreeing that it might be possible. He opened his mouth again.

“I came to extend an invitation to you for the Pentagon.”

“The Pentagon…?”

I tilted my head at his words. Vermilion looked at me incredulously.

“You don’t know the Pentagon? Really?”

As I nodded, Vermilion began to explain about the Pentagon. He described it as a social gathering of young, talented Wizards with assured futures, comprised of the disciples of each Tower Master and Vice Tower Master.

Listening to Vermilion’s explanation, I couldn’t help but tilt my head again. The fact that he came to invite me suggested that he, too, was a capable Wizard, meaning he belonged to the Pentagon. However, to me, Vermilion didn’t seem much different from the ordinary Wizards around here.

Seeing his confident attitude didn’t particularly give the feeling that he was lying. Observing the other Wizards around, they seemed to know about the Pentagon as well.

“I’m not really interested in joining.”

“Well, it seems you’re still…”

Vermilion looked visibly flustered, as if he hadn’t expected me to reject him. He began to talk about the benefits of joining the Pentagon, but they all sounded unnecessary to me.

“Thanks for the offer, but I’m just not feeling it.”

“This is quite…”

Vermilion made a troubled face at my response. He hesitated for a moment, then sighed and turned away. It seemed he might persist, but unexpectedly, he appeared to give up quite cleanly.

I started to sway my hands again. The faint blue Mana danced delightfully between my fingers. During this, Raine’s face popped into my mind.

Could she be a member of the Pentagon too?

*

While aimlessly wandering about the tower, my stomach began to growl, and I was starting to think of heading back. A group of Wizards approached me.

They were wearing robes of various colors. The color of the robes indicated the affiliation and status of each Wizard, but since I hadn’t quite grasped the culture of the tower yet, I couldn’t tell who they were just by the robe colors.

However, among the approaching group, I could recognize one Wizard. It was the man in the Red Robe, Vermilion, who had invited me to join the Pentagon.

Vermilion and four other young Wizards approached and stopped in front of me. My gaze naturally turned to the man standing at their center.

Seeing the other Wizards wait for his words, I could tell he was the leader of the young Wizards.

“Um…”

The man groaned as he looked down at me, glancing over at Vermilion, who stood beside him. Vermilion merely nodded slightly without a word.

“I am Robstein of the Blue Tower.”

Is this how Wizards introduce themselves? Mentioning the name of their affiliated Tower? I nodded in understanding and replied.

“I am Seris of the Tower of Dawn. What brings you here?”

“I hear you rejected the Pentagon invitation, so we came to see you.”

“I thought we were done with that…”

“You still don’t seem to understand the culture of this tower.”

“Must I understand it?”

“Is that even a question? Now that you’re a Wizard…”

I frowned at Robstein’s words, tuning him out. My hunger was growing, and the arrival of these unwelcome guests was starting to build up my annoyance.

Why were they so eager to include me in their social gathering? I interrupted Robstein’s speech.

“Have you had a meal yet?”

“Uh…? Not yet…”

“That’s great. Let’s talk while we eat.”

Though I wanted to brusquely refuse, now that I had joined this Tower, I still wanted to get along with the other Wizards.

I headed toward the restaurant inside the tower with the five Wizards. Wizards could freely use the dining halls of Towers other than their own.

A small smile spread across Robstein’s face and the faces of the other four Wizards. It seemed my suggestion of eating together was viewed positively. The response was already set in my mind, but I wasn’t going to voice it right away.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Robstein started listing facts about the history of the Pentagon, which I hadn’t even asked about, while I munched on my food. Of course, I wasn’t paying much attention.

“I think I need some time to think.”

I left those words and stood up. Robstein looked flustered and said to me.

“Uh, time to think…? Didn’t you say you’d join?”

“I think I need to ponder it a bit more. Thank you for the offer.”

With that, Robstein no longer pressed the issue of joining. He simply asked when I might give him an answer.

“Well…”

I trailed off as I exited the dining hall.

*

About three days had passed since parting ways with the Pentagon members. While having a meal with Raine, I suddenly recalled that memory and opened my mouth.

“Hey, Raine.”

“Yeah?”

“Do you know about the Pentagon?”

“Pentagon…? Did they come looking for you?”

“Oh, yes.”

I nodded at Raine’s question. She seemed to be aware of the social gathering called the Pentagon as well.

“Are you a member of it too?”

“There’s no way… They’re a bunch of annoying people, so it’s best not to take an interest in them. I don’t have time to associate with such fools…”

Just as Raine was about to speak while swirling her fork, a crowd of Wizards barged into the quiet restaurant.

I recognized the face of the man in the center. It was Robstein of the Blue Tower. He looked around and soon spotted me, making his way over. The number of Wizards accompanying him had more than doubled since the last time we met.

“Oh dear…”

Raine let out a long sigh at the approaching Pentagon.

“Good to see you, Seris… and Raine.”

Robstein naturally sat down across from us. The Wizards from the Pentagon who came with him also settled in around us.

Over ten Wizards fixated their gazes on me. I frowned and set down my fork, which I’d been holding.

Raine squinted and asked, “What’s going on here?”

“What do you mean… I merely came to hear your answer.”

“Answer? What…”

“Raine, this doesn’t concern you. Seris. I suppose you’ve thought it over enough?”

Raine and Robstein clearly weren’t on friendly terms. Ignoring Raine, he focused solely on me.

I squinted and assessed the abilities of the other Wizards around me. The flow of Mana emanating from them was hardly distinguishable from that of any ordinary Wizards.

Robstein, the one leading them, looked a bit stronger, but even that was only in comparison to the other ten Wizards.

I didn’t see any signs of those capable individuals that Vermilion had described who would lead the future.

There was really no point in continuing this conversation. If the Pentagon were truly a social group of outstanding Wizards as Vermilion and Robstein had said, I might have shown some interest.

I stood up with a fork and knife in each hand.

“Raine, let’s head back.”

“Oh, okay.”

As I turned to leave, the Wizards from the Pentagon, including Robstein, stood up, seemingly blocking our way.

“You still haven’t given your answer.”

That was Robstein’s remark. As soon as he finished speaking, I lightly clinked the knife and fork I was holding.

Clink-!

The noise resonated, creating vibrations that captured my Mana and formed a low frequency. The broadly spread low frequency encountered the surrounding Mana, amplifying the sound.

Before long, the amplified sound transformed to resemble the roar of a massive Monster.

[Graaaah…!]

The ten Wizards that had surrounded me began to clutch their chests and started to slump one by one. Their pale faces looking up at me appeared somewhat comical.

“Ugh…”

“Ah…!”

“Wha… what…?”

The gazes directed at me were no longer the same. They resembled the looks of Adventurers confronted with an incomprehensible Monster.

There was even someone frothing at the mouth and fainting.

All I had done was mimic the sound of a Dragon, the Mana of Kalbain and Kashpa remembered from faint memories.

“What… What was that? What did you do…?”

“They all seem out of it.”

I led Raine out of the restaurant, with the faint groans heard from behind us scattered like a backdrop.
