Chapter 100
“Rain, can you introduce Seris to the inside of the tower?”
“What will you be doing, Master?”
“I have to handle the paperwork that has piled up, don’t I? And also solve Seris’s issue.”
“Understood.”
After finishing the conversation with Rain, Haiven waved his hand at me and disappeared in an instant. Only a faint remnant of mana remained where he had stood.
“Isn’t it amazing? The Master can move anywhere inside this tower.”
Rain proudly spoke as she observed my reaction. I blankly nodded at her words. Just what kind of principle activates such magic? Despite having witnessed it three times, I still couldn’t grasp the concept.
“Shall we drop off the luggage first?”
Following Rain’s guidance, we arrived at a quite spacious room. Without a moment to explore the room, I was pulled by Rain and had to just drop off my luggage and come out.
The next place we headed to was Nightmare’s room. He would be using the small room right next to mine.
Since it was difficult to procure hay inside the mage tower, several fluffy blankets were laid out on Nightmare’s floor. He seemed to enjoy the soft texture, rolling around on the ground.
“It seems Nightmare likes it here.”
“He looks happy.”
After putting Nightmare in his room, the real tour of the tower began. Rain dragged me around, introducing various places.
We passed through a large storage where essential items for missions could be supplied, and moved on to a workshop where magical items were crafted.
“Do you see that? That’s called a magic scroll…”
I half-heartedly nodded at Rain’s words while examining the inner structure of the tower closely. The building’s style wasn’t special, but the mana flow I felt inside was extraordinary.
I found myself inadvertently tuning out Rain’s explanation. However, this was an unavoidable flow. Everything around me felt like inspiration.
My senses, transcending those of a human, reacted sensitively to everything around me—the breath of the wizards and the mana they exuded. The flow perceived inside the tower continually stimulated the small head of thoughts I had.
“This place is…”
At the moment I began to become conscious, something I thought was familiar approached me anew. I naturally recalled Haiven’s eyes.
Was it a way of perceiving the world?
I couldn’t be sure, but I felt I could vaguely glimpse the world he viewed. Excitedly, I placed my hand on the pale wall of the mage tower, leaving Rain behind as she animatedly explained.
In that instant, a small light burst forth in front of me. There was no sound. It was a sight only I could see.
It felt as if consciousness was being sucked in. It was similar to the feeling I had when I first awakened my mana.
The moment I regained my senses, I found myself standing on unfamiliar ground. And at the same time, I realized that the long road I saw represented countless years, and what was built at its end was the experience accumulated through time.
Whose world could this be…?
As I marveled absentmindedly, a strange gaze descended from the very top of the tower. I instinctively knew that the one sending this gaze was the master of this world.
Though the figure was wrapped in a blurry light, I could tell from the faint outline that the entity was a woman.
However, that gaze didn’t linger for long. The moment the master of the world recognized me, my consciousness was pushed back out.
Whoosh-!
“So this is…”
“Gah…!”
A small light flickered in front of me. I struggled to steady myself as I removed my hand from the wall.
“Seris?”
“Ah, yes.”
“Are you okay? Do you feel unwell?”
“No, I’m fine.”
“Is that so? Then…”
“Oh, there’s Rain.”
“Yeah?”
“Is the tower master a woman by any chance?”
“Uh? How did you know? Have you seen her somewhere?”
I awkwardly shook my head at Rain’s surprised question. Apparently, I had seen the master of this tower.
I looked back and forth between my hand and the tower’s inner wall with a peculiar gaze.
*
The next morning, I was able to be recognized as a formal wizard. However, there was still one issue left to resolve. It was related to Leonis, whom I met before becoming a mage in the tower.
Haiven said that Leonis had officially requested an investigation from the tower. This was because the magic I used was similar to the Battle Mage faction’s magic.
“Well, it’s no big deal… if you just show a bit of your inner world, the matter will be resolved.”
In the end, I followed Rain and Haiven out of the tower. The place we headed to after exiting the Tower of Dawn was a tower that had a murky twilight color.
The robe I was given upon being recognized as a formal wizard was quite large for my body. While it looked a bit cute with the oversized fit, it was also quite uncomfortable.
“What tower is this?”
I shook the robe draped over me back and forth, asking Rain.
“This is the Tower of Twilight.”
“The Tower of Twilight?”
As Rain nodded at my question, she began to add an explanation with a belated realisation, realizing that I had no knowledge about the mage towers.
“Um… Ah, you know that Leonis guy?”
“Yes.”
“It’s a place where people like him gather.”
I swallowed hard at Rain’s words as I stepped into the tower.
The Tower of Twilight. It was a place where Battle Mage faction wizards congregated.
The wizards here gave off an atmosphere more like well-trained soldiers than scholars. Although their figures were hidden under robes, underneath would surely lie muscular bodies.
I nodded at a passing wizard walking by.
Haiven headed straight to the top floor of the tower. It seemed like teleportation magic couldn’t be used here, so we had to climb the stairs.
Out of curiosity, I brushed my hand against the inner wall while going up the stairs. The Tower of Twilight also felt the presence of peculiar magic, just like the Tower of Dawn. However, it was merely a defensive magic circle that had been activated to protect the tower. There was no special feeling like I had sensed in the Tower of Dawn.
Upon reaching the top floor of the tower, a wide hallway unfolded, with a huge door at its end.
Haiven stepped toward the long hallway. The gait of the old wizard wasn’t fast, but it wasn’t slow either.
Thud- thud-
The small footsteps slowly echoed around. The tightly shut door opened to reveal a middle-aged man clad in a deep blue robe.
His upright posture and broad shoulders gave a glimpse into his usual lifestyle. The middle-aged man, with colossal muscles that even his thick robe couldn’t hide, nodded and spoke.
“I’ve been waiting.”
Haiven frowned at the sight and replied.
“Do you really need to confirm?”
“Since doubts have arisen regarding the Imperial Wizard, I need confirmation. It can’t be helped if you feel uncomfortable.”
Haiven nodded at those words and gestured to me. It was a signal for me to come over.
As I approached, swaying my large robe, the middle-aged wizard’s gaze locked onto me.
“Are you Seris?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Leo, the Vice Tower Master of the Tower of Twilight.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“You have quite a well-trained body…”
“Can you tell just by looking?”
“Of course…”
I looked up at Leo with a frown. He was staring down at me with an expressionless face, making it hard to read his intentions.
“Is it just a matter of showing my inner world?”
“Exactly. I’d appreciate it, even if it’s a bother.”
I nodded and focused on my inner self. It was time to pull out the world I had built from within. Since I had done this when I first awakened my mana, it wasn’t too difficult.
Swoosh-!
The moment I closed my eyes and began to concentrate, mana started to flow out around me. I let it flow freely.
The flowing mana began to shine with a starlight-like brilliance. It looked just like the Milky Way I had seen in the desert.
Even with my eyes closed, everything around me was crystal clear. The mana flowing from me was serving as my eyes.
As my consciousness slowly sank, it began to draw out something deeper.
Above the twinkling stars, a ring engulfed in flames appeared. When the rapidly spinning ring began to absorb the surrounding mana and trap it inside, a new ring rose above it.
When the cold chill ring enveloped the sphere of starlight, I opened my eyes and looked around.
“This is…”
Leo’s gaze became dazed. He, who rarely showed any change in expression, stood there blankly without uttering a word.
I reached out toward the sphere of starlight that floated in front of me. Each and every star gathered inside the ring of fire represented the number of worlds I recognized. The tiny stars, which others couldn’t perceive, continuously showed their own stories.
Suddenly, I wanted to show the stories of this world to others. Grabbing the rings of fire and ice tightly, I pulled them hard.
Whoosh-!
In an instant, the size of the little star began to expand. In a fleeting moment, hundreds of worlds rushed by rapidly.
As the moment that felt like an eternity came to an end, I clapped my hands.
Clap-!
A beautiful light decorated the end of the story on the twinkling stars.
I opened my mouth amid the white, scattering, hazy mana.
“How was it?”
“…”
“Was there a problem?”
The moment I asked, Leo’s eyebrows twitched. He burst out a breath he had been holding and let out a long sigh. He responded in a voice filled with admiration.
“There’s none… No problem at all…”
*
Late in the evening, Leonis, who returned to the mage tower, discovered a document that had been placed before him. Upon returning to his room, he frowned as he checked the contents of the document.
[Disciplinary Action Notice]
“What is this…?”
The contents of the document detailed a 30-day suspension. After reading the document, Leonis silently began to drink.
