Chapter 65 - Apology (1)
Song Lin still felt a bit uncomfortable after meeting Song’s brother and sister. He secretly resented his lack of status in the family, which had allowed his sister to suffer such great humiliation and permitted them to be so arrogant in front of him.
However, when he suddenly heard his sister’s words, Song Lin was startled. He quickly turned his head to look in Song Ningxiang’s direction and stuttered, “Sister, do you know what you’re talking about?”
The last time they had invited Zang Ya to the yard where his sister kept pets, they had indeed considered bringing them together. But later, they discovered that Zang Ya was not interested in his sister, and she didn’t seem to care much for him either.
After all, it would have been fine if his sister had been attracted to him, but if they insisted on getting in touch with someone who wasn’t interested, they might not be able to please him. So why should they engage in such a thankless endeavour?
Song Ningxiang nodded fiercely, then looked at the surprised Song Lin in front of her and said decisively, “I know what I’m talking about.”
When Song Ningxiang had first met Zang Ya, she knew that her father and brother wanted her to be interested in him, but at that time, she hadn’t thought much of it. After all, she preferred the handsome gentle scholar than Zang Ya.
When Zang Ya showed no interest in her at all, Song Ningxiang even felt a sense of relief.
However, after what had happened yesterday—when she had returned home, hugged by her mother while crying, and seen her father looking at her with a guilty yet helpless expression—Song Ningxiang felt a wave of desolation wash over her.
She hadn’t done anything wrong, yet because she was the daughter of a merchant family, she had been humiliated by Song Wanwan. Since her family was not as powerful as Song Wanwan’s, she could only endure this humiliation.
Those thoughts had only touched Song Ningxiang a little, but today, in this mansion, she had seen the little shuanger who was well-protected and Song Wanwan, who had been brought to apologize even though she was reluctant. This made Song Ningxiang feel completely unwilling to remain in her shell.
It was obvious that she, Song Ningxiang, was the one who had been beaten and humiliated. Instead of apologizing to her, those people were fawning over the one who had slapped them in the face. The reason was that they wanted to cling to Zang Ya’s power, while in their eyes, the Song family was so lowly that they were hardly worth mentioning.
Song Ningxiang had initially said those words impulsively, but after speaking them, it seemed as if she had suddenly figured something out. The faint seedling in her heart had grown into a tree, completely taking root within her.
Turning to her brother, Song Ningxiang nodded firmly. “I know what I’m talking about, brother. I was wrong last time. Now I understand. I want to marry him. I don’t dare to think about being his wife, but, if possible, even if I could just be his concubine, I would be fine with that.”
Although she could become a wife if she married into an ordinary family, there was still a huge difference between ordinary family and marrying into a noble family. If she offended those ladies of high status again, she would inevitably suffer humiliation. Since she was going to marry someone who wasn’t the person she liked, why not choose someone who could protect her, thereby gaining favour for her natal family?
Song Lin heard his sister say this and looked at her expression with a hint of pity. He felt that his sister must have been affected by recent events, leading her to make such a decision.
However, Song Lin couldn’t say it was bad for his sister to marry Zang Ya. If she could marry him, not only would she be protected, but their family could also rise in status.
After coming to this conclusion, he looked at Song Ningxiang and nodded firmly. “I understand. Don’t rush into this. I’ll go back and discuss it with our father to come up with a perfect solution. We’ll take our time to figure it out. After all, even if the Zang family is offering a concubine room, I’m afraid it’s something we can’t afford.”
Song Ningxiang felt no embarrassment at his words and nodded calmly. As the carriage started, she glanced once more at the tall gate, her eyes lingering on the dark red plaque several times before finally lowering the curtain and leaving with the carriage.
.
After Song Lin and the others left, Zang Ya took An Yun’s hand and came to the place where the gifts from Song Lin and the others had been placed.
“Open it and let me see what’s inside.”
The servants around them quickly stepped forward and gently opened the boxes containing gifts one by one, exposing the contents to Zang Ya and An Yun.
An Yun saw that in the box in front of him, apart from some silks and precious herbs, the rest were exquisite ornaments.
After seeing the things inside clearly, Zang Ya turned to look at An Yun next to him and said, “Take a look; if there is something you like, you can choose some to put in your room, and I will have the rest collected.”
An Yun nodded, let go of the hand held by Zang Ya, and went straight to the pile of things. After looking at it for a while, he was attracted by one of the woodworking components.
An Yun picked it up and found that the little thing seemed to be a component of a small wooden house. The details were extremely realistic, and the door could even open and close. It was exactly like a high-end version of Lego bricks.
An Yun held this thing and found it quite interesting, so he couldn’t help but play with it a few more times.
After playing for a while, An Yun remembered that he wanted to see other things. He handed it to the maid next to him and asked her to put it aside for him while he picked more.
Next, An Yun found a lot of interesting things there, some for people to play with and some for cats. They were all extremely exquisite. It seemed that Song Lin had spent a lot of effort to find them.
