Chapter 32: part 1 - From the heart
I went back and read some of the comments on like the first 10 chapters lol. For those of you that have stuck around and kept reading thanks. Patreon in case you suddenly feel like a pledge lol
The shopkeeper’s name appeared to be Roberts. I wasn’t sure if that was a surname or a given one. Although he seems to be a well known merchant, it seems only natural that he’s able to do business with the aristocracy.
“Sir, may I see that sword once more?”
The snake sword killgills.
Roberts’ face had changed when he heard that I had obtained it from a dungeon. I wondered whether I should try and have it appraised at least once.
“Sir, you shouldn’t use dangerous words like ‘dungeon’ so carelessly.”
“Dangerous?”
I mean sure it was a dangerous place but…
“For now let’s appraise what I’ve got. I think that’s for the best, the stuff from dungeons is mysterious. For the sake of argument, if it turned out to be legendary, mythic, or even fantasy class; sir your life could be in danger.”
While Roberts was explaining Sierra was taking a long hard look at the snake sword. Even so for my life to be in danger….. What a dangerous world.
‘Cook toy store’
A billboard marked with an old man wearing a pointed hat, a white beard hung under his smile and he held a brown cane. Roberts explained that the store was operated by the major Cook group.
“It’s big!”
Nem was excited by the sign and the store’s exterior size.
“Are there stores like this in your hometown Toa?”
“……. I don’t know I haven’t been into the town much.”
She’s a demon so I thought she lived in a large forest but what kind of life did she lead exactly.
“It’s called a toy store but inside is more or less a magic shop… Anyway let’s go inside.”
Roberts appeared excited as he entered the store. Inside it felt as if a luxury palace had been spread before us.
Red gold trimmed curtains hung on the windows and a large chandelier hung from the ceiling. The floor was covered in an embroidered red carpet.
The items were displayed inside showcases, all kinds of swords and armor, even shields were displayed along the wall. It even had clothes although it looked to be just a single hoodie.
In the center was bottles that looked like they’d be used in a science experiment. They were lined up with some kind of liquid inside of them. The scene was the same all the way to the back of the store.
“For now, this.”
Roberts handed killgills to the lady at the counter.
“Wow it’s so big!”
“Hang on, Nem.”
Nem disappeared into the store with Toa following close behind.
“Sierra why don’t you go in and look around as well, I don’t know much about rapiers so it’d be better if you could choose one for yourself.”
“Probably so but..”
“Don’t worry about it, just consider it me paying rent. It would help me out as well if you thought of it that way.”
I originally intended to thank her somehow anyway. But not knowing the customs of this world and how to show my thanks appropriately I’ve been procrastinating.
” Well then, I will do as you say. ”
With that Sierra gave a shallow nod then took off deeper into the store.
“Sir why don’t you go look around as well I’ll wait here for the appraisal results.”
“Got it.”
I don’t think there will be anything useful to a healer. If tools could make up for the weak points it wouldn’t be called the weakest. More specifically there wasn’t anything I particularly wanted but I looked around anyway.
〇
I came across Toa looking for something in the store.
“Toa, is there anything that looks good?”
“Masamune, well… there’s not really anything special. I have a sword and I don’t exactly want to wear any of that armor. I’d prefer it if they had something light.”
“I saw a light looking hoodie?”
“Honored customer, if that’s the case how about this?”
Someone working in the shop who had heard our conversation offered up a recommendation.
“This is a rare class light armor forged from the scales of a wyvern.”
“Rare class?”
I tilted my head at the new term.
“Rare class is part of the standard for measuring the value of things such as, weapons, books, expendables, and monster materials.”
— — — — —
Common class: Low quality items made from B rank monsters and minerals.
Rare class: High quality items made from A rank monsters and minerals.
National Treasure class: High quality items made from S rank monsters and materials.
Legendary class: Extremely high quality items made from SS rank monsters and minerals.
Mythic class: Extremely high quality items made from SSS rank monsters and minerals.
Fantasy class: Absurdly high quality items made from infinity monsters and minerals.
— — — — —
There doesn’t seem to be a standard for items that fall below C rank. In other words things taken from something like a goblin have no value at all. Even so I was unaware of that standard. In that case I want some things a bit more expensive. The wyvern armor is light and rugged but it doesn’t match Toa at all.
“Do you have anything in the back?”
“Over there is the national treasure corner.”
It was a separate room from this one, I could see a showcase from behind a curtain.
“Can we take a look?”
“I am very sorry, National Treasures can be very expensive so before entering we have to confirm your budget. Would that be alright?”
“Uh sure, this is just what I have on me but right now I can muster up about 10 million. Is that enough?”
I pulled out the wad of money I’d received before this.
“M-my apologies, please go ahead.”
The staff member seemed shocked by the wad of money. In other words, even for National Treasure level items this amount of money is enough. Although looking at it objectively I don’t exactly look like I’d have lots of money.
” Hey, Masamune were you serious about the 10 million Rion?”
“Serious?”
“It’s 10 million Rion? We don’t know how much Yowastein meat we could buy with that. It’s good to have a lot of money but it it OK to just pull it out like that?”
“I see your point. But it’s ok for stuff like armor isn’t it? We should still make money from the reward. Either way let’s take a look, we don’t even know the market price for this stuff.”
“… Yeah OK.”
Toa also had no idea about the market or monetary value of the money. The me who splurged, couldn’t understand her worry.
The items lined up in the National Treasure area were clearly treated differently. The room was dark to help create an atmosphere, much like an aquarium. The showcase was trimmed with gold with the interior lit up. It was even equipped with a sofa to rest.
“Toa this is good isn’t it?”
I found something that looked like it would fit Toa well.
“Castle tower feathered robe?”
Toa read the letters which seemed like hieroglyphics to me. It was light clothing with white lace. It didn’t particularly have the feeling of armor, there’s no way a feather robe was armor right?
I’m thinking of opening the option for sponsored chapters to help increase the amount of chapters you get in a day/week. Patreon pledge your worst enemy, or even mild enemies, I won’t discriminate. Promise XD.
