Chapter 1 - Beginning
Ling Fan is an average 15-year-old middle school student, or so he believed.
As a reincarnated transmigrator, Ling Fan felt he had accomplished something significant in his previous life. As a wizard of some renown, he believed he had left a lasting impact and lived up to his reputation.
However, upon reflection, he couldn’t help but feel a tinge of embarrassment.
Ling Fan decided not to dwell on the past since playing games peacefully at home was all he needed now.
Historically, individuals who leave a lasting impact are often those who have either achieved great fame or infamy. Ling Fan was convinced he was the former, but that no longer mattered as he no longer belonged in that world.
Strolling home as the sun lazily dipped below the horizon, Ling Fan unconsciously began to reminisce about the years gone by.
No matter which world he was in, Ling Fan’s life had been tough. Upon arriving in this strange new world, he was transformed into a one-year-old child. Fortunately, fate led him to the legendary “Police,” where he found refuge in their shelter for several years.
Eventually, he excelled academically and was admitted to the city’s best elite school, DeYu Middle School, which was ranked among the top in the province. This school provided free tuition for junior and senior high school and scholarships for exceptional accomplishments.
However, Ling Fan had no desire to stand out since he preferred a laid-back life.
Thinking of this, Ling Fan’s expression turned a little odd.
Because he was accompanied to this world by something known as a “system,” which enabled him to understand all of the common sense of this world immediately, this, combined with his inherently rational nature, was the primary reason he hadn’t embarrassed himself.
Name: Ling Fan, Age: 15, Height: 170… A line of data appeared before Ling Fan’s eyes. None of this is important; yes, all this doesn’t matter.
What mattered was that, aside from intelligence and charm, all of his physical stats, including strength, agility, and stamina, were a mere 6.
If we use an average person’s 60 as a baseline on a 100-point scale, his scores were significantly lower than average. In a game, this would make him an extremely frail character.
Ling Fan had doubted the accuracy of these stats in the past, but his first P.E. class in the first year forced him to face reality.
That’s right; they were only 6 and locked in a way he could not improve them with any kind of training or otherwise. Though his intelligence and charm were both at 20, his charm is currently greyed out, unlike his intelligence stat, which is glowing.
Ling Fan had lost the will to complain. He had gained something akin to stats points after this unknown entity started following him, and he had hoped to become a school bully who could easily handle any situation.
However, he could only invest points in intelligence and charm.
Does he need to depend on his PY to survive in the future? There is a saying on the internet that goes like this: God never creates PY solely for the function of excretion.
(Tl: PY means A**hole)
Contemplating this sent a slight shiver down his spine.
In this era of intellectual advancement, his high intelligence remained useful. He completed two missions, earning four stat points and two skill points. He split the stat points between intelligence and charm, leaving the skill points unused just in case.
Or rather, he had no current place to use the skill points.
Ling Fan felt that his intelligence had advanced to godlike levels, far beyond that of an average person. His first mission was to enrol in this middle school, and his second mission, assigned at the beginning of the first year, was to complete all of the middle school exam materials within one semester.
And Ling Fan completed all of it, including the competition questions, in just half a semester.
He also maintained a steady performance in his class, consistently ranking around the 20th position—neither exceptional nor poor. Given his circumstances, the opportunity to have tuition and miscellaneous fees covered was a considerable advantage for someone whose life was already quite challenging.
Furthermore, there was only a slight disparity between the highest and lowest-performing students in an elite class. The difference between the top and bottom positions was generally less than 50 points, usually hovering around 30 to 40 points.
Despite not standing out in his class, Ling Fan’s class was regarded as one of the best, with only one class per grade. Even if placed in an average class, the last student in this class would still be among the top five in the grade.
Given the importance of this class as the school’s academic powerhouse, the management maintained a relatively relaxed attitude as long as academic performance remained stable. Ling Fan liked this aspect, as he never took part in school activities and would often fall asleep during class.
The homeroom teacher had often discussed this matter with him, but due to Ling Fan’s consistently steady performance and the teacher’s understanding of his current living situation, the school chose not to burden him with excessive pressure.
Despite Ling Fan’s preference for solitude and lack of involvement in group activities, he was regarded as an excellent student since a steady top student was precious to the school, and he was also working part-time as a tutor for two other classes.
Due to DeYu’s strict teacher selection criteria, the school had a small pool of available teachers, which caused a problem.
For some boarding students, securing an adequate number of tutors for their evening study sessions proved to be quite difficult.
Additionally, the students at the school are generally categorised into two groups: those from wealthy families and those who excelled academically.
Of course, there were also those who had both.
Wealthy parents requested more teachers to assist their children during evening study sessions; money wasn’t a problem.
DeYu Middle School, of course, understood that money wasn’t a problem, but finding a good teacher was. Selecting teachers was a difficult task, as they had high standards for the teachers’ quality and character.
Even if they weren’t picky, the parents would be, and mistakes could ruin a reputation. Which was a consequence they could not afford.
With not having enough teachers to go around has become a significant concern for the school, causing quite a headache. Additionally, the school has experienced a substantial loss as some students who excelled academically have been forced to drop out due to family circumstances.
Thus, DeYu Middle School devised an innovative approach: through rigorous testing, they identified academically strong but financially average students who could dedicate a portion of their time each week to tutoring other classes.
In a clever move, they managed to address the problem of teacher shortages while ensuring that students from less privileged backgrounds could stay in school. It was a win-win situation: two birds, one stone.
Naturally, the pay was also excellent.
Of the many applicants, only a few were chosen to become special teachers. And among the junior high school students, Ling Fan stood out as the sole individual who not only passed the selection process, but also received the highest evaluation.
Proving that being good at studying doesn’t necessarily mean being good at teaching.
Ling Fan knew this was his legitimate means of making a living, and he had no intention of hiding his skills; he was ready to give it his all.
And the system that had been following him around appeared to have noticed his thoughts. Only an hour before his test, the skill ‘Teaching’ suddenly lit up in the skill section.
Quick-witted Ling Fan wasted no time investing a skill point into it the moment it lit up. Just as he was about to add the second point, the section abruptly turned black again, as if it had never appeared.
With two lifetimes of experience and +1 teaching skill, almost perfect, was the assessment given to Ling Fan by the teachers present.
However, the seasoned teachers also noticed that Ling Fan’s knowledge seemed unusually broad, raising questions about why he was only ranked 20th in his class.
Nevertheless, they chose to keep their thoughts to themselves since middle school students tend to be quite rebellious, and it was not the ideal moment to address such concerns.
Ling Fan was unaware that he had given himself away.
Therefore, it was natural that in the second year, Ling Fan became a part-time tutor for the evening study sessions of two first-year classes.
His grades remained consistent, and he garnered unanimous praise from teachers and students in these two regular classes. There was a noticeable improvement in the performance of these classes, and he had also not been randomly flirting with the younger female students.
DeYu Middle School faced its fair share of challenges regarding early romantic relationships.
His homeroom teacher, benefiting from the improved class performance, had their bonus increased and found themselves increasingly fond of Ling Fan.
He was a true gem. His lack of participation in activities was understandable, and his occasional sleep was most likely due to exhaustion from tutoring.
This is how his homeroom teachers see it.
Ling Fan, on the other hand, enjoyed this life. As for why he slept so much, it was due to his gaming hobby and his habit of staying up late to play. He would also occasionally indulge in “action films.”.
“I am looking at it with a critical eye!” Ling Fan nodded deeply believing this. Isn’t there a saying? To make others believe it, you must first believe it yourself.
However, Ling Fan remained oblivious to the subtle brightening of the grey charm icon.
