Chapter 9: Chapter 9: S.H.I.E.L.D. (Part 3)

Bang bang bang.

For some unknown reason, the number of zombies had significantly increased on Daniel Davis's way back, forcing him to shoot his way through.

"Zombie dogs, zombie cats... Why keep so many pets?" Seeing three zombie dogs and two zombie cats ahead, Daniel had to put down the rocket launcher case and take out a grenade from his waist pouch.

The grenade was from the supply crate he had found earlier.

Raccoon City fell so quickly not only due to Umbrella Corporation's deliberate actions but also because of zombie animals. Unlike humans, who turn into zombies relatively slowly, zombie animals retain their speed. Coupled with their horrifying appearance, most people's first reaction upon seeing them is to flee, but they rarely escape.

Zombie dogs, cats, crocodiles, sharks, and snakes—all were present in Raccoon City. This was largely due to the zoo in the city center, operated by Umbrella, which provided experimental animals.

In addition to the aforementioned animals, there were also zombie tigers, elephants, and more. The zoo was essentially a reservoir of experimental subjects for Umbrella.

"Room." As the zombie dogs and cats charged, Daniel murmured quietly. Although his Op-Op Fruit's range was limited, it was sufficient to protect himself.

Bang bang.

Daniel's first targets were the zombie cats, as they were smaller and harder to hit. He quickly took them out with two shots.

Fortunately, there were no zombie rats, which were the primary carriers of the T-virus.

After killing the two zombie cats, the three zombie dogs lunged at Daniel. Anticipating this, he quickly moved back and threw a grenade.

Boom.

As Daniel took cover behind an abandoned truck, the grenade exploded, hitting the three zombie dogs directly.

Bang.

Two of the zombie dogs were decapitated by the blast, but one still had half its head intact. Daniel quickly finished it off with a shot.

"Phew." After ensuring there were no other zombie animals nearby, and seeing that the zombies approaching from dozens of meters away were slow, Daniel took a moment to rest.

Although the fight had been short, it had been physically exhausting for Daniel.

Thanks to the T-virus enhancing his metabolism and speed, he had managed to avoid the attacks and take cover behind the truck.

"I wonder if I'll ever reach Quicksilver's speed. If Wesker and Quicksilver raced, who would win?" Daniel mused as he picked up the rocket launcher case again.

Of course, Daniel knew the answer—Quicksilver was faster. Wesker was quick, but Quicksilver's speed, granted by the Mind Stone, was on a whole different level.

If Daniel had an ultimate goal in the Marvel world, it would be the six Infinity Stones. However, he knew this was just a fanciful thought for now; he had no chance of going after them in his current state.

"Who's there? Come out." As Daniel neared the milk truck, his face changed, and he pointed his gun at the other side of the vehicle, shouting coldly.

"Who are you?" Jill emerged from the other side, pointing her gun at Daniel.

"It's me." Daniel lowered his mask upon seeing Jill.

"What are you doing here? What happened to Rebecca and the others?" Jill asked, clearly shocked but lowering her gun.

"They were safe when I left. I went out to find weapons," Daniel explained, briefly recounting what had happened after Jill left.

"Let's hurry back." Despite having many questions, Jill was more concerned about Rebecca and the others. She and Daniel quickly drove back.

"Glad you're all safe." Seeing Rebecca and ensuring everyone was safe, they finally relaxed. But as Jill described the situation in Raccoon City, both her and Rebecca's faces turned grim.

They hadn't expected the military to be involved.

Worried about Chris, Jill grew anxious, but with no way to contact the outside world, she could only worry silently.

Jill didn't comment on Daniel's previous actions, including using a sniper rifle to kill people. Given the circumstances, discussing the morality of killing would have to wait until they were safe.

However, Rebecca still tried to comfort Daniel regarding the killings.

Daniel just nodded repeatedly in response to Rebecca's concern.

Feeling guilty about killing, even bad people, is a common theme in many Western TV shows and movies. But Daniel didn't have this issue—not because he lacked emotion, but because he believed that killing bad people was just.

He found the guilt over killing bad people incomprehensible. Guilt over killing good people made sense, but not over bad people. This might be a cultural difference.

Just like the differing views on speed and strength: the West values strength more, with speed being secondary. Wesker, after all, sacrificed speed for strength in the end.

Sacrificing humanity for power was also seen as acceptable.

Roar.

Daniel, who had finally fallen asleep, was suddenly awakened by a loud roar, as was Rebecca. With Jill back, the three had decided to take turns keeping watch, and it was Jill's turn now.

Getting the rocket launcher from Raccoon City had drained Daniel both physically and mentally, so he had fallen asleep quickly after returning.

"It's a Tyrant. Good thing I brought back the rocket launcher." Seeing a Tyrant with a Gatling gun in the distance, Daniel felt a sense of relief. Without the rocket launcher, they would have been doomed.

Boom.

Just as Jill prepared to use the rocket launcher, a beam of light flashed, and the Tyrant disappeared, leaving a large crater in the ground.

A bright beam then illuminated the villa, revealing a plane in the sky with the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on it. Daniel immediately recognized it as a Quinjet.

"Finally safe." With S.H.I.E.L.D.'s arrival, Daniel knew that no matter what happened next in Raccoon City, he would survive.
