Chapter 165: Good Luck
Those three and their familiars had made it halfway back to the main routes of the Crystal Caves. At first, one might imagine they were quite slow since Linfel spent even more time baiting the Level Five Magus around.
However, let's not forget that these Maguses were forced to stop because they ran out of Magic Energy first. Not to mention their much, much higher physical fatigue. They were your normal magus that you can find in every corner of the Ventis Sect. Maguses that used magic Energy for everything, even high-speed pursuits. It's just that doing it for so long, adding Magic Energy to make sure the body can sustain that speed, also exhausted the body.
The three Maguses weren't worried on their way back since these parts of the Crystal Caves were relatively safe, even if you left the mainly used paths. Unfortunately for them, that negligence gave Linfel the perfect moment to act.
*Kabrum! Kabrum!*
Two bolts of Lightning suddenly came from behind, filled with a huge concentration of Magic Energy and Soul Power. They struck the magus and familiar on the back of the trio. In an instant, the magus was seriously injured, losing consciousness. The familiar wasn't any better. The electrical power, combined with the soul power, easily sipped into the core, affecting its soul. The familiar's core fell by its master's side, also unconscious.
"Who's there?!" The other two Maguses and Familiars obviously noticed that and connected to each other, merging their total Magic Energy. They never expected to be attacked in this place.
Linfel didn't try to hide, though. The surprise element was gone, so he just came out in the open. "Hello, friends. You sure made my group run a lot in the past hours. So, as compensation, I decided I might as well come and ask for compensation. Don't worry, though. As long as you give me your cards, everything will be fine. I can leave immediately."
None of the two believed what they saw. A single familiar came to intercept them? No, that can't be possible. The two quickly scanned the surroundings with their Magic Sense. Yet, no magus could be seen. "Where is your master?"
"Oh? Alvin?" Linfel asked back. "He should have finished that Level Five Magus by now. If he didn't, well, that's basically it. Anyway, you shouldn't worry about him. Come on, cards. Let's not waste each other's time."
The two Maguses, connected to their Familiars, felt Linfel's actions to be hilarious. "So you abandoned your master to flee from the Level Five Magus, uh? Hehe! Well, you did great to take one of us by surprise. But now that we two know you are here, we might as well capture you to use as an exchange later."
*Bzzzz...*
Linfel shrugged as five lightning spears appeared around his body. They were created with both Magic Energy and Soul Power. "Well, you can't say I didn't warn you."
The first magus snorted and didn't speak anymore. He took out a Magic Device that looked like a fire weapon from his waist, pointing at Linfel. Finally, he pulled the trigger. Charged with his Magic Energy, the weapon shot a ray of red light, obviously filled with dense Fire Element and Magic Energy.
This was different from your normal firearms, which were useless against Maguses. Its power far surpassed any normal bullet, and it was much faster, too. Unless you had your magic defenses up beforehand, reacting to it was very hard if your level was too low.
Yet, when the shot reached Linfel, something weird happened. The Magic Energy of the shot suddenly dispersed in mid-air, leaving only the Fire Element, which began to disperse as well.
The Magus's eyes opened wide, not understanding what happened to his attack. "What the hell?"
His friend, using a similar weapon, didn't know what happened either. However, he didn't want to give Linfel time to think about anything. He took a similar weapon but with Wind Element, shooting Linfel without thinking twice. Several Magic Shot sounds echoed in the caves, but they all dispersed once they reached within a meter from Linfel's core. It was as if there was some kind of dead zone for Magic Energy in there.
The two had terrible expressions and went all out, shooting Linfel nonstop until their Magic Guns went empty. Fire and Wing Magic Shots continued to fly at Linfel, just for them all to disperse in the same way.

Linfel, who hadn't moved yet, nodded with a satisfied expression. "Sure enough, it works. Good thing I didn't have a use for a Magic Energy Barrier. Blocking that many shots would cost some extra Magic Energy."
The two maguses didn't know what Linfel was talking about. Instead, they glanced at each other... and ran! Yes, as soon as their weapons ran out of Magic Energy, they threw caution to the wind and sped away, leaving their friend behind.
Linfel watched that and laughed. "Hahaha! So, still without Magic Energy? Too bad, I have a lot."
He knew they were empty, and after their weapons were discharged, there was pretty much nothing left for themselves. When they were pursuing Linfel's group, they were to tap into their Familiars' Magic Energy as well. Only when both were almost empty did they finally give up. Yet, having pushed that far was a terrible mistake that put them in this situation. They didn't have the means to fight Linfel at the moment, even if Linfel was only at Level Three.
*Kabrum!*
The Lightning Spears immediately shot at the Maguses, who used their Magic Senses to try to avoid them. They were indeed Ventis Sect Maguses. Even in that situation where they were almost empty of Magic Energy, they received great training, and these ones were obviously used to battles between Maguses and Familiar pairs.
Still, Lightning Spears continued to rain down on them, making the two feel like crying.
"How can he cast so many of those spears at Level Three? Even I would be hard-pressed to do such a thing!" One of them complained
"How would I know? Just keep running until he gives up! Save your Magic Energy!" The other had no answer either.
*Bang, bang, bang...*
Everywhere the Lightning Spears fell, a big hole was opened. That scared the Maguses even more since not only Linfel was using many at once, each one of those Spear carried incredible power. Was it even possible to have such huge Magic Control and Magic Energy output at just Level Three?
Linfel continued to pursue them, shooting his Spears. Yet, inside, he felt bitter. 'Sigh... sure enough, conjuring Magic Energy abilities and adding Soul Power to them takes a long time. Soul Power is just too difficult to control.' Linfel looked ahead, seeing that the Maguses weren't that fast. 'Well, practice makes perfect. Let's continue.'
Good thing they didn't know Linfel could be at least three times fast at conjuring Lightning Spears if he didn't use Soul Power. But then again, Linfel's Lightning Spears had such huge destruction power exactly because he was using Soul Power. In exchange, he didn't need much magic Energy to conjure them. He could continue like this for a very long time.
*Kabrum, kabrum, kabrum... bang, bang, boom, boom...*
Lightning Spears fell everywhere, some even brushed the Maguses, making them scream in pain as they kept running. Just the electrical part was enough to make their bodies numb for a moment. Their anger quickly changed into fear and then into despair. Linfel didn't slow down, and the Lightning Spears continued to fall. At some point, one of them finally made a mistake, and one of the spears hit his chest.
*Bang!*
*Arrrrgghhh!!!*
As he was connected to his Familiar, both of them suffered the damage. Or, you could say they shared the damage, which would have been higher for one of them if they weren't connected. Different from the first Magus and Familiar, Linfel didn't need to shoot two Lightning Spears to take both down.
Linfel knew very well how to control himself, though. He easily injured and made those two lose consciousness, but neither of them died.
Now, only one Magus and Familiar remained, and all the Lightning Spears began to rain down on him.
The guy finally understood. He had no Magic Energy, and the Familiar pursuing him was a monster! "Wait! I give up! I give up!"
Linfel instantly stopped his attacks, arriving by the guy's side in the next second. "And here I thought I could practice for a while longer..."
When Linfel appeared, the last Magus got even more shocked. He didn't pay attention to the first Magus and Familiar Linfel took down, nor did he pay attention to the second ones. He just wanted to flee. Now that Linfel was here, he noticed that Linfel was carrying both Maguses and Familiars with his Magic Energy. From the very start, Linfel was keeping at his speed while carrying others! "I will definitely ask your Master later about how to make such an amazing Familiar like you..."
Linfel was taken aback for a moment but laughed. "Hahaha! Good luck."
