Chapter 24: Great Tree Barrier Plan

[Lysandros Evermore, Camp Half-Blood]

That very same afternoon, after having lunch, I started to work on another project I've been thinking for a while. I decided to call it the Great Tree Barrier Plan, something to protect the camp instead of the Thalia Tree.

I started going around the perimeter of the camp planting a sapling with some blood I managed to gather from different campers around. It's purpose to make the barrier remember the demigod scent. It's not perfect, but at least it is something.

Employing the help of satyrs dryads, and some campers from Demeter, enlisted with some help from Trika, we managed to finish planting the saplings in record time, in under 2 hours it was all done! Next came the complicated part. I needed to carve runes using the blood of demigods hailing from lineages good at protecting or hiding. So, yeah, Luke had to bleed some buckets... I also took a little bit from the children of Athena, children of hipnos and of hecate, on hopes of better using the Mist.

I spent the rest of my day drawing many bloody runes over, but I was just halfway through, but I guess one can't rush it. I then attended dinner and went back to my room to have a nice night of sleep, on my way I could not help but think of the helmet I had touched earlier.

If I'm not wrong, I should have the ability to glimpse onto the past if I have an appropriate vessel. But unluckly I had no time as of now to look further into it.

Well, either way, I went to bed and had some nice dreams, before waking up and having my lovely morning routine. I then met Zöe on the same place as yesterday, and we spent the morning together, with her teaching me some tricks and useful information. But that's a story for later, as I then had lunch and went back towards the unfinished barrier I was designing.

Having had practiced yesterday, the second half of the runes were completed much quicker. Now, with everything in place, I went back towards the same hill Thalia became vegan, had I not inferfered, and got a 20 liters large bucket, full of demigod blood, mixed with some magical items and materials, that were either useful for protecting and warding things, or for better plant growth.

Not gonna lie, it took a lot, and when I say a lot, I mean it, of effort to convince Chiron to let me do this, as this could become a tremendous amount of waste in terms of manpower and various magical materials, but as I had seemingly gained the support and confidence of the campers, and Mr. D seemed amused at the idea of taking so much blood from the campers, he is a bit sadic, and by a bit I mean a lot, so the motion passed.

Some of my helpers from yesterday had also gathered, awaiting me to start growing the magical tree that would be the center of the magical formation. Here goes nothing... I hope it works...

I take a deep breath and start chanting. It was a really long spell, that according to my calculations would use every bit of energy I had, so, I was already ready for staying a day out of comission, but it was necessary, as I had already seen quite a few injured campers, after they went out to patrol the borders, clearing any monsters that got too close.

One might not think too much about it in the books, but there had been a fair number of casualties during patrols, the Thalia Tree was a lifesaving blessing that made things 100 times easier. While there had been no casualties since I arrived in the camp, I have heard of some close shaves with death during my stay here, and some months prior to our arrival, there had even been a patrol team that got wiped out by some monsters.

The books did not do justice to how dangerous and hectic things used to be prior to the tree, so I have no choice but to try and remedy the situation with this. I signal them to start, as two satyrs come over and pour the blood over the tree. I started chanting, releasing strands of magic power trying to connect them with the tree.

This went smoother than I expected, but it was but the first step. With the connection created, my helpers started channeling their powers to incite the blood soaked sapling to grow. Absorbing the nutrients from the soil around, and with it the magical demigod blood, and the magical materials we had poured over it.

The couple of leaves atop it growing larger, taking on a red hue, with new twigs and branches sprouting out, as the tree quickly increased in size, and before long, the dozen centimeters long sapling soon became a meter long small tree.

I then started spreading the magic I had poured over the tree outwards, towards some other saplings we had placed nearby, activating the runes is them, causing their vitality to be slowly drained away, as they withered, and were absorbed by our bloody tree. As soon as the saplings were dead, I once more extended my magic even furthers, searching for the next nodes of the formation.

Alone I could never spread my mana through such a huge area, but with the support of various magic items and by constantly consuming ambrosia to replenish my energies, I managed to endure the ordeal.

And keeping the routine, of expanding the range, activating the runes, and waiting for the saplings to wither, I kept going untin I had almost covered the entire perimeter of the camp. With all the support from the nature related satyrs dryads and Demeter campers, together with the vitality of the other saplings, and the magic coming out of me and the magic blood we had soaked it in, the tree started to grow to enormous sizes.

Reaching tens of meters (hundreds of feet) in height, and with a ginormous canopy, it's shadow reaching all the way towards the tents, going as far as to cover the Hypnos tent, though I don't think they will say anything about it, and they might even thank us.

The tree shined with a brilliant red colour, with light red leaves, and a pitch black bark, with streaks of scarlet red moving all over the tree.

As soon as it finished absorbing the last sapling, there was a sudden surge of power all over the camp, as a red light screen appeared all over the territory of the camp, covering it like a bubble. On the now big black and red tree, faint red light was emited from the streaks of scarlet red, dancing around the tree.

It was a beautiful sight. That was my last thought, as I just blacked out from exhaustion, after using a spell well above my current capacity. I don't know what happened, but next I remembered, I was back into the hospital wing.

As I opened my eyes, I managed to spot Thalia, seated on the bedside, peacefully sleeping. I look towards the window, just to see it was really dark out there. Since it seems it's still night, I decide to go back to sleep.

[Mount Olympus]

"Say, Chore... it's been a couple of days since Art departed, right?" - Asked the girl that seemed to be in her mid teen, as she played in the swing, looking towards her sister, also semeingly in her mid teens.

Looking over her notebook, the one the girl adressed as Chore looked over before saying - "Haaa... I know you are bored and want to talk to our little brother, but have some patience Lia..." - She admonished her sister before focusing back onto the choreografy she was creating - "Why don't you focus on creating some new jokes, or something like that? This is not like you at all..."

"Wuuuuu... don't tell me you are not curious about him! I know you even got mad at mom for not telling you sooner!" - The girl, that seemed to be called Lia, argued back, causing Chore to blush a little.

"Well, that's beyound the point, but maybe you are a little right. What is taking him so long to call us? Does he hate our family for not having taken care of him? It's all mom's and those stupid rules' fault!" - She grumbled, in dissatisfaction.
