Chapter Nineteen
The powerful emotions of the family interfered with his sense of the valley. Dolan walked away from the activity and meandered into the gully, hoping to hear something from the dead, an informal notification that the horrors they displayed to him were the last of the night’s activities.
The ghosts were like a vibration of the ground felt only when he was standing still. They were there, but he did not know what they were doing. It was almost like they were having some sort of debate on the merits of joining the party tonight.
Dolan cocked his head and closed his eyes. The strife of the Ottinger’s faded to the background and he could sense the valley again without interference. Slowly the knowledge crept into Dolan as if he could hear portions of the spectral conversation occurring in the valley.
They wanted the Ottingers. They wanted the family to enter the valley.
Dolan’s eyes snapped open, and he hurried back to the trailers. He was wrong; the ghosts were only quiescent and saving their energy until the Ottingers arrived.
