Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Promotion to A-Level
[Shi He Hanifus's Favorability: 115]
[Experience Bonus: 6]
[Micro Component Processing Level B: (10006/10000) Ready for Promotion]
The next morning marked the first day of He Kui's vacation. After a sleepless night, he excitedly stared at the virtual panel in front of him.
With trembling hands and an excited heart, He Kui cautiously pressed the "Promotion" button on the virtual panel.
[Micro Component Processing Level A: (10006/100000)]
A wave of unprecedented exhilaration washed over him, and He Kui felt a slight tingling sensation in his hands. Without hesitation, he dove back into his room.
Through a series of swift movements, he gradually assembled a controllable Deen, consuming most of his day.
If he calculated correctly, he could produce four of the latest Haros or one Deen each day.
This represented a significant advancement for him, meaning he could earn five to six hundred credits daily or accumulate substantial experience points.
At that moment, He Kui found himself contemplating quitting his job to focus solely on making Haros at home. But after cooling down from his fervor, he dismissed the thought.
He couldn't give up the various benefits of working in the design bureau, including the exemption from military service. If he resigned, the military would likely require him to enlist based on the information he had in his head, and only by staying in the bureau could he remain close to Sule.
Planning for the future, he held the newly completed Deen and quickly took the elevator down to the shopping area on the first floor.
"Mr. He Kui~ Hello!"
A beautiful clerk, who had previously dealt with He Kui, greeted him warmly as he entered.
Despite the aesthetic fatigue from seeing so many attractive Adjusters, He Kui felt good seeing a lovely woman waving excitedly at him.
"I'd like to sell this."
He Kui pulled out the Deen model.
"Just one?"
"Yeah."
"Okay."
The somewhat puzzled clerk picked up the Deen model, and her expression gradually turned serious.
"Mr. He Kui… have you reached A-Level?"
"Is that so? I felt particularly smooth while working this morning."
He couldn't reveal that he was fully aware of his recent advancement to A-Level.
"This craftsmanship has improved significantly since before you went to the battlefield. The assembly in the details is noticeably smoother, and there's no stiffness in the movements. You must have reached A-Level!"
The transmission devices were all handcrafted, and achieving this level indicated that He Kui's hands had stabilized to a remarkable degree. He could precisely control minute movements, and with the aid of nano-level operation machines, he was now qualified to participate in the forefront of MS development, even if his theoretical knowledge still needed work.
The clerk's enthusiasm grew upon seeing He Kui's expression; she would earn a nice commission from anyone who advanced to A-Level.
"May I ask, Mr. He Kui, do you work in the design bureau?"
"Yes."
"In that case, you should be aware of the procedures to apply for A-Level status, right?"
"Yes, it requires a joint assessment from the five major design bureaus."
This wasn't surprising; with a population of fifty thousand in the colony, there were only about a hundred A-Level personnel, and the assessment process was far more rigorous than that for B-Level.
Micro-manipulation was based on feel; even some at the top of B-Level could occasionally produce A-Level quality, but maintaining that standard was another matter. Thus, the assessment process needed to be taken much more seriously, often lasting a month, involving continuous evaluation of skills and capabilities.
"Good to know!"
The clerk politely bowed as she saw He Kui leave the store. He stepped outside to find a small market in the residential area.
He was taken aback by the long line outside a usually quiet supermarket.
"Hey, what's going on? Is food free today?"
He casually approached a fellow employee in a design bureau uniform.
"It's almost like it's free! I heard prices dropped by about 10%, so everyone's rushing to buy. I doubt you'll get in line today; if you're not picky about prices, you might want to check out the Earth Specialty Store next door. The beef and shrimp there should still be at regular prices."
Seeing that the person was a colleague, he grumbled a bit more.
"Thanks!"
Looking at the bags in the hands of customers leaving the supermarket, He Kui felt both amused and exasperated.
With ZAFT's foothold on Earth becoming more secure, the prices of certain food items finally began to decrease. The people lining up were likely stockpiling supplies.
Their rationale was easy to understand; if ZAFT lost control of the Carpentaria Base or faced setbacks in the war, food prices would skyrocket again, which was akin to profiting from a disaster.
However, that plan was bound to fail. He Kui knew that the Carpentaria Base was solid, and many upper-level officials were likely aware of this. Thus, the prices of food would likely continue to drop steadily. The reason they hadn't intervened might simply be to allow some people to clear their stock.
He Kui didn't bother to stop them and turned toward the specialty store. The five hundred credits he earned from selling the Deen, combined with a little extra, would be enough to treat himself to a somewhat luxurious beef feast. After all, it was the first Deen he made after reaching A-Level—a perfect excuse to enjoy a hot pot with Shi He.
Meanwhile, at the first satellite in April City, within the Klein residence.
"He Kui has likely reached A-Level capabilities."
"Is that so? I understand now~ Thank you."
After hanging up, Lacus glanced at the box of Haros on her table.
Since she had publicly declared her fondness for Haros, many fans had sent her gifts.
However, no one had ever sent her so many at once; He Kui was truly unique.
With He Kui advancing to A-Level, his value had increased significantly.
According to standard procedures, they were now beginning to attempt contact and recruit him. However, the warning from June City had yet to be fully investigated. It seemed that even if he did not harbor ill intentions, he was an intriguing individual, so it would be best for Sule to observe him further.
As she gazed at the box of Haros, Lacus's curiosity and intrigue deepened.
