Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Reaching S-Class
The task of equipping Boaz with a fortress-grade positron cannon was outside He Kui's purview. With his job done, he returned from Boaz to PLANT.
In Erin's office, He Kui sat comfortably on the sofa while Erin occupied the main seat.
"This mission must have been taxing. I didn't expect them to deploy a new type of ship, but your response was timely," Erin praised.
"Thank you."
"No need to thank me; it's all your own merit." Erin smiled. "Even Councilor Joule mentioned that your accomplishments this time will be formally recognized later—maybe even with the Nebula Medal or the highest-tier Future Medal."
Currently, the Nebula Medal was awarded sparingly across PLANT, given only to figures like Creuset or a handful of other individuals with extraordinary contributions. However, Creuset was likely the only living recipient. Such honors usually demanded frontline sacrifice.
In contrast, as a researcher, He Kui's previous accolades included the Future Medal, which had five ranks and was more commonly awarded. Erin herself had received the highest-level Future Medal for pioneering the MS framework.
"I'll do my best."
"And here's the reward for this operation: a million credits."
"All right."
A million—once an unfathomable amount to him, but now He Kui regarded it with indifference. Thanks to ZAFT's escalating production capabilities and Lacus's assistance, his company was steadily amassing wealth. In a single month, with efficient operations, his personal income exceeded two million credits.
However, compared to the astronomical costs of Gundam production, his earnings still felt modest. But it did bring him a step closer to his dream of building a Gundam.
"By the way, the Supreme Council is preparing for elections, and most of the security forces are concentrated in Aprilus City. Although Blue Cosmos has been quiet recently, it's best to stay vigilant."
"Also, prepare for next month's DSSD visit. I hear Orb will also be sending representatives to the L4 DSSD space station."
"They're going all the way to the DSSD station in space instead of the one on Earth? Why?"
"Who knows, maybe Erica's post-baby brain fog," Erin joked.
"I see."
He Kui took Erin's reminder about security to heart. As for DSSD, monthly visits were part of his routine. Perhaps he should consider avoiding Orb's arrival time?
Given the current circumstances, each side kept their travel plans concealed, so there was little chance of an accidental encounter. Even if he did run into them, it wasn't much of a concern.
PLANT far surpassed Orb in strength, after all.
"If you do meet them, feel free to probe them. If not, let it be. And unless something urgent arises, focus on developing the second unit here."
"Understood."
The second unit was none other than Freedom. Equipped with a flexible wing design, it was engineered for high mobility, featuring a full arsenal of powerful cannons to ensure offensive capabilities.
Unlike the original Freedom, this version incorporated a beam shield system. Though it didn't include the complex Dragoon system, it was equipped with twin high-output pulse cannons for enhanced long-range attacks. The left arm housed a beam shield module, while the right was fitted with a layered anti-beam composite shield with a built-in beam boomerang.
Due to the limitations of the beam shield technology, this dual approach was chosen to provide robust defense. Freedom's design goal diverged from the Justice's close-combat specialty, being built to hit and retreat effectively.
In the last few days of March, He Kui settled back into a familiar rhythm. His days consisted of commuting, working on Gundams, and collaborating with the aerodynamics team to finalize the flexible wing design.
Three days into this routine…
"What's got you so cheerful?" Shi He asked with a smile, noticing He Kui entering the kitchen, a Haro in hand.
"Shi He, I made this for you."
He Kui presented her with a Haro that integrated his top-level micro-control technology.
"This is…"
Though it looked like a typical Haro, Shi He, having worked alongside He Kui and honed her own control skills, immediately sensed something unusual about it.
"I added Phantom Particles, though it's limited. In an emergency, it can release a one-time burst that temporarily disrupts surveillance systems."
Phantom Particles, a nanotech crystal, could theoretically be embedded in a Haro. However, due to their single-use nature and high cost, they were not particularly practical.
"I don't need it. You should keep it, Kui." Shi He shook her head, reluctant to accept the gift.
"It's just for emergencies, and I can make more. Please, keep it."
He Kui planned to give similar Haros to all the girls close to him as a precaution, a safeguard if they ever found themselves in danger.
"Well, all right."

Seeing the notification, He Kui's lips curved into a faint smile.
S-Class. He had reached it.
With a surge of joy, he pulled Shi He into a tight embrace.
"I'm still cooking!" She playfully scolded, lightly tapping his chest with her small fists, which to him felt like a gentle pat.
"I'd rather have you, Shi He," he teased.
"Food first, you rascal…" she whispered shyly in his ear.
"Fair enough."
Satisfied but mindful of the time, He Kui reluctantly released her after a brief moment.
"By the way, I'm thinking of setting up a foundation. The Children's Welfare Association rep suggested it when I mentioned I was planning another donation. It would make fundraising easier, and leveraging your name could also boost its reach."
"No problem, but we need trustworthy people to manage it."
A dishonest manager could tarnish his reputation.
"I can handle it myself. Renting an office and registering a foundation won't take much time."
"All right, I'll leave it to you, Shi He."
He had often considered asking her to sell off his numerous gadgets but had hesitated. Now that money was no longer a concern, donating them for charity indeed felt like a better option.
"Leave it to me!" Shi He replied with a gentle smile.
Looking at her, He Kui felt a rush of emotions. Reflecting on the journey from C-Class to now, they had faced countless challenges together.
He hadn't anticipated that his fiancée would end up being Shi He. They had overcome so much, transforming him from a mere employee to a director.
It was a journey that seemed far longer than just a year.
"I'll head back for some final modifications."
"Okay, but don't take too lon
g. Dinner will be ready soon."
"Got it."
With a smile, He Kui returned to his workshop.
S-Class… he had finally arrived.
