Chapter 16: Negotiations
A dark cold night it was just like the many nights before it. The cold hands of death had gripped another one of my family and now dragging its soul across the veil never to be seen again. The main door opened promptly with Stefan running into the house as he saw me drinking on the couch.
"Where is he?" Stefan asked as he saw the lifeless corpse of Zack lying on the floor wrapped in a carpet. His breath trembled with grief as he saw him.
"What have you done?" Stefan looked at the body.
"We should have killed him." Solemnly looking at the fire pit as the embers from the dying wood danced out.
"I'll get the stakes." Stefan turned to me.
Soon enough I heard a car pulling into the driveway and I said, "someone's here."
"Move Zack." Stefan said as he went to get the door and I picked up the body but then I heard the voice and it was Elena, her heartbeat was like a machine gun her breath heavy and she asked Stefan, "What are you?"
'
I sighed and put the body back down and started to drink again, "It's gonna take a while Zack."

I was sitting on my grams couch and I was scared barely able to hold myself, she came from the kitchen with a pot and two cups.
"This would help calm you down." She sat down and poured some green tea and handed me a cup. "Drink."
I drank and it wasn't like the usual green tea it was something a little different and it warmed me up from the inside and calmed my nerves. "Better?" She asked with a smile on her face and I nodded.
"Everyone reacts differently when they first find out… mine was when I was on a school trip to a farm, I made Nancy trip and fell into a ditch full of manure because she was hitting on a boy I liked."
I looked at Grams and a slight chuckle came from me, "Whatever you did was not in your control. A witches powers are influenced by their feelings."
"So I am a witch?" I sighed and she nodded.
"I know you didn't want to be but that's the truth sweetheart… we come from a long line of witches." Grams seemed proud of it.
If I'm a witch then, "When I touched Tom I felt something about him? Is that like something you could do?"
She nodded and put her cup down and held my hand and I found a warm comforting feeling from her, "Do you feel that?" I nodded and she said, "When you touch someone you can feel their intentions and what they are… and as far as Tom is concerned I think you should try and stay as far away from him as you possibly can."
I was confused and I asked, "Why? You said that before as well, do you know something about him?"
She sighed and said, "Witches aren't the only things that are true from the fairytales you've heard… there are monsters far worse and terrible than anything you can imagine… he's one of them."
"What?" I leaned closer to her and she looked hesitant, this is the first time I've seen her like this, like she was scared, "Grams please."
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breaths and said, "I don't know everything but I have heard stories from other people like us about a young man, with hair like the golden rays of sun and a smile just as bright they call him the witch eater. Where ever he goes death follows behind him like a mistress.
Doesn't matter who you are… if you're unfortunate enough to cross his path you're surely to die… he's destroyed scores of covens. I wasn't sure it as him because he's never alone… and now he's here and I'm sure he wants something. You need to be careful Bonnie. He's not someone who can be trusted."

After what felt like an eternity Stefan stepped inside again somehow looking even sadder, I mean I get it but still. Zack just died… "So hunting trip?"
"No… Damon has someone with him as insurance… we can't afford to do it now." Stefan sighed and I looked at him, "Why does that matter?"
"What?" Stefan looked confused and I stood up and said, "The longer we wait to deal with him… the more people will die and it will be on us. We can take him out now and minimize the damage."
"What are you talking about Tom? There are innocent lives involved… people who don't deserve this."
"It's not the time to think emotionally… we have to be rational about it."
"No… we are not doing it and you're not going to do anything… not until, she's safe."
I rubbed my eyes and grunted, "Why? Why can't you see it like I do? This doesn't matter."
"It matters to me… and I'm not going to endanger people just to kill him…" he turned around and started to walk and he turned around and said, "Don't be here… Damon might come by and I don't know what the two of you will do."
He left and I felt so frustrated and disappointed… why does it always have to be this way.
