Chapter 71 - The Chosen Candidates
Mai Dongzi took out fifty bottles of energy potions and placed them on the table. Mira looked at these potions with some confusion and asked, “What kind of potions are these? Why are there so many?”
Renguang’s gaze froze for a moment, and then he asked, his breathing a bit rushed, “Are these the potions refined from the energy plants you discovered on Water Blue Star? Weren’t they supposed to be available next year…”
It was based on Mai Dongzi’s discovery of energy plants that Prince Arthur decided to have the Xi family join in the future development of Water Blue Star. Because of this, Nigri had to “voluntarily” step down. Therefore, quite a few people in the main branch knew about this matter, so it wasn’t surprising that Renguang was aware.
Mai Dongzi nodded, “Since I am the discoverer of the energy herbs, I receive only thirty vials of cultivation resources each month, with a rule that they cannot be shared with others. These are what I managed to purchase separately through Prince Arthur’s adjutant. Because the production quantity of energy potions is currently limited, I could only buy this much. We’ll see about more later!”
Mai Dongzi didn’t clarify that the thirty vials of energy potions were just one type; in fact, she could actually receive a total of ninety vials, as she is both a dual-element ability user and a martial practitioner.
“These are for us?” Renguang said excitedly.
“I’ll sell them to you at the base cost,” Mai Dongzi replied. Of course, she couldn’t give them away for free—she wasn’t a charity, and these potions were quite expensive. Offering them at the base cost was already an enormous discount for them.
Renguang didn’t intend to get them for free; he was just overly excited.
“For now, this is all I can get. I can’t say how much I’ll be able to get next time. You two siblings should use these for your training. The energy potions work best when taken after intense training. If there aren’t enough potions, you can take them once every five days. This is the result of a pharmacist’s experiments,” Mai Dongzi explained.
“Got it. Thank you,” Renguang said. Then he asked, “Eleventh Cousin, does your precognitive dream have a timeline?”
“I’m not certain about the exact timing, but in my dream, your cultivation level was at the early stage of level six. You can estimate how long it will take you to reach level six.”
Renguang thought for a moment and then said, “It should take about two years, but with these energy potions aiding my training, I’m not sure how long it will actually take.”
“Then you have to work hard and strive to reach level seven in two years,” Mai Dongzi simply set a goal for him.
“My cultivation potential is only 3A,” Renguang said, uncertain.
He used to think his cultivation potential was a rare genius level within the family, but then came Erica with her S-level, not to mention Lucy, who was even more impressive with a double S-level. With his cultivation potential, reaching level six in two to three years would already be quite an achievement. As for level seven, he wouldn’t even think about it for the next ten to twenty years.
Mai Dongzi didn’t say much more; he would understand after using the energy potions to aid his training. She then looked at Mira.
“You need to make sure Mira trains diligently. You know, if the situation in my dream really happens, the higher your cultivation, the better your chances of survival,” Mai Dongzi said.
After hearing their conversation, Mira gradually began to understand the difficulties she might face in the future.
Hearing Mai Dongzi say this, Mira’s face turned a bit pale. “But my cultivation potential is only 3C. No matter how hard I train, in two or three years, I can only reach level three at most.”
“While cultivation potential indeed limits the speed of progress, diligent practice can always compensate to some extent. I will do my best to get energy potions for you. As long as you can reach level four in two years, it will be enough,” Mai Dongzi tried to comfort Mira.
In reality, even if Mira reached level four, her chances of surviving the first wave of the apocalyptic crisis were still very slim. However, having a higher cultivation level always meant a little more hope.
“Lu… Mai Dongzi, thank you,” Renguang said solemnly.
Mira was unaware of the matter with the energy potions, but Renguang was different. He was very moved, and his grudge against Lucy for deceiving Mira since childhood finally dissipated. Although Lucy’s feelings for Mira weren’t completely pure, they weren’t insincere either.
Mira truly had the luck of the innocent.
“Don’t rush to thank me yet. The potions are for the two of you. You must not give them to anyone else; otherwise, I will stop providing them,” Mai Dongzi emphasized.
Currently, energy potions haven’t been released on the market. Even though Renguang knew about them, he didn’t know how effective they were in assisting with cultivation.
When Renguang realizes the value of the energy potions, or rather, when the Xi family becomes aware of them, Mira’s energy potions are very likely to be “seized” and given to other Xi family members with better cultivation potential.
According to Deputy Admiral Chen, the energy potions would first be provided to the military, followed by young cultivators in middle and high schools.
Although cultivators make up only one-third of the total population of the Blue-Black Empire, they still number in the hundreds of millions.
With such high demand, there will undoubtedly be a severe shortage of energy potions, meaning only cultivators with an A-grade or higher potential will be eligible for the potion allocation.
Given Mira’s cultivation potential, the school would certainly not distribute any energy potions to her.
And within the Xi family, even though Mira’s father is the head of the family, she likely wouldn’t receive any potion allocation either.
However, the reason Mai Dongzi provided the energy potions to the siblings was primarily to repay Mira for her unwavering support of Lucy, and to show the Xi family that she is a person who distinguishes clearly between gratitude and grudges.
As for Renguang, he is a teammate Mai Dongzi has her eye on. In the first wave of the doomsday crisis, everyone has to face the crisis alone, but the second wave involves team challenges, where one can form teams.
Mai Dongzi isn’t sure what situation she’ll face then, but Renguang, both in terms of character and cultivation level, is someone she recognizes as a potential teammate.
Therefore, she hopes he can avoid a cannon fodder fate and survive the first wave of the crisis.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anyone take Mira’s share,” Renguang promised.
Mai Dongzi nodded. Despite how Renguang often complains about Mira, calling her spoiled or saying she isn’t trying hard enough, deep down he genuinely cares for his sister.
“Put the items away!”
Renguang immediately and swiftly stored the fifty vials of energy potions, then asked, “How much in credits do you need?”
“It’s a coincidence, I just received the live-streaming reward amount from the Survival Game show. I actually got 90% of the amount. Since Mira has been so generous in tipping me, I’ll give you these fifty vials of energy potions for free this time. I’ll charge you next time,” Mai Dongzi said with a smile.
Mira had tipped her a total of one million credits. Given the size of Mira’s personal savings, she likely didn’t have that many credits herself, so the most probable sponsor was Renguang.
After all, before Mai Dongzi cleared her reputation as a “waste,” the current Xi family head and his wife wouldn’t have allowed Mira to play with her, let alone give Mira credits for tipping.
