Chapter 79
Chapter 79: Wen Yang’s Promise
Wen Yang paced anxiously on the balcony, twenty minutes had already passed since Ning Chu went into the bathroom.
Inside the bathroom, only the sound of the shower could be heard, with no other movements.
Through the frosted glass door, he could vaguely see a blurred shadow standing still, with no sign of action for a long time.
This made him even more anxious, and he couldn’t help but ask out loud, “Are you done?”
“Mm.”
After another moment of waiting, Ning Chu came out, neatly dressed.
His hair was still wet, and his pants and shoulders were damp, his expression a bit disheveled, with a slight redness at the corners of his eyes, and a layer of mist still lingering in his gaze.
Wen Yang followed him into the dormitory, his eyes never leaving him.
Though Ning Chu often appeared indifferent and unapproachable, it was the first time Wen Yang saw him looking so dejected and dispirited.
Looking at that innocent and beautiful yet sorrowful face, Wen Yang couldn’t help but feel his heart ache.
He silently pulled over Zhang Shaoqing’s chair and sat next to Ning Chu.
“What’s wrong?”
Wen Yang’s tone had never been this gentle before, filled with concern.
But Ning Chu shivered a bit, looked at Wen Yang with disdain, and pouted, “Don’t gross me out, go away!”
“What else can I do? I just accidentally kicked the wall with my foot, it hurts like hell~”
The situation was already pretty bad! Wen Yang’s gentle demeanor was making Ning Chu overthink.
He picked up the hairdryer on the table and began to blow-dry his long hair that was almost covering his eyes.
Wen Yang’s lips moved, but the noise from the hairdryer drowned out his words, and Ning Chu purposely ignored him, focusing solely on drying his hair.
Seeing Ning Chu avoid him like this, Wen Yang couldn’t help but sigh, “You still have the nerve to talk about Shaoqing.”
“You don’t talk to anyone when you’re in a bad mood.”
He shook his head, got up to put the chair back at Zhang Shaoqing’s desk, leaning against the wardrobe with his arms crossed, watching Ning Chu’s pretended indifference.
“How about we drink a bit?”
He brought out the same tactic he used with Zhang Shaoqing.
Ning Chu quickly shook his head in refusal.
“Just acted like you couldn’t hear me a second ago, now you can hear.”
“……”
He continued to play deaf, meticulously drying his hair.
Once most of it was dry, Ning Chu set the hairdryer down with a heavy sigh, feeling uninterested in everything.
Might as well give up~
No matter how hard he tried, things always seemed to head in a direction he didn’t want to see…
“I’m going to sleep.”
“It’s only a bit past eight.”
Ning Chu glanced back at Wen Yang and weakly replied, “I’m tired.”
“Then I’ll go turn off the lights.”
Ignoring Wen Yang, he climbed the ladder to the head of the bed, lay down weakly, and covered his head with the blanket.
In the next moment, the lights in the dormitory went out, plunging the room into darkness.
As darkness enveloped him, Ning Chu’s heart felt cold.
What kind of sins did he commit in his past life~ Why wouldn’t the heavens let him be?
In his previous life, his father disappeared before he could even remember, and his mother passed away early due to illness, leaving him to rely solely on his maternal grandparents. After struggling to graduate from college and finally being able to earn money, he inexplicably ended up in this world, having to experience university life all over again.
He had been trying so hard, yet nothing ever seemed to go in a good direction…
He didn’t want to be a woman; what was so great about it?
Having to deal with monthly visits from Aunt Flo, it was painful beyond belief.
During those times of misery, the pain was excruciating. And if he got pregnant, he’d dread those ten months ahead.
And to be pinned down by a man… just thinking about it made him nauseous.
Would he still be himself if he really became a woman?
Wen Yang stood silently by the bed, looking at Ning Chu curled up under the blanket, frowning in confusion, then returned to sit at the desk.
Thinking carefully, had Ning Chu run into some trouble lately?
Could it be he also had a breakup?
Was it his interactions with girls that upset Ning Chu so much?
Suddenly, he remembered how Ning Chu’s chest muscles had been developing more and more lately.
Was it due to a feminine appearance and figure?
Wen Yang felt a headache coming on; he had been there to comfort Zhang Shaoqing when he had a breakup, but Ning Chu never liked alcohol.
He was also not great at providing dry reassurances, especially since he had no idea what was going on.
“Uh, Ning Chu?” Wen Yang asked cautiously, “What’s wrong? Can’t you tell me?”
“……”
“Isn’t it better than bearing it all alone? We’re brothers; we face it together.”
“How about we get some late-night snacks? Have a nice meal to vent a bit? Or go for a run, watch a movie?”
Ning Chu poked his head out from the blanket, silent, turning over to look at Wen Yang below.
In the dim light coming through the door, he could see Wen Yang’s worried and anxious face.
He sighed heavily, buried his face in the pillow, and pleaded, “Can you please not talk to any girls from now on? I’m begging you.”
As long as Wen Yang didn’t disrupt the plot, he wouldn’t keep turning more into a girl, and Wen Yang could continue being a virgin.
However, his request left Wen Yang a bit dumbfounded. “Huh?”
What did that have to do with him talking to girls?
Could it be that his basketball interactions with Shan Shan finally tipped Ning Chu over?
Wen Yang didn’t ask for a reason; he had already asked many times before, but every time Ning Chu either worried about him being fooled or jealous that he was handsome with girls chasing him…
He had believed him a bit at first, but now it seemed those two reasons were pretty ridiculous.
“Okay.” After a brief daze, he nodded vigorously, “I won’t talk to any other girls in the future; I’ll keep my distance.”
“……..” Ning Chu raised his head again to look at Wen Yang, mumbling, “But you said you wanted to find a girlfriend before.”
“No dating then? I’ll stay single for life.” Wen Yang rolled his eyes at him, “Come down, let’s play a game.”
“Fine.”
Having received Wen Yang’s promise, Ning Chu’s mood eased a bit as he slowly climbed out of bed.
He hoped Wen Yang could stick to what he said and avoid talking to other girls… that would essentially prevent the plot from unfolding and avoid becoming more feminine after disrupting it.
Wen Yang turned on the lights and glanced at Ning Chu’s tear-streaked eyes.
Seeing Ning Chu’s poor and pitiful appearance made his heart soften, his curiosity dissipating quickly, and all his questions paled in comparison to making Ning Chu happy.
“Still want to play that……”
“Forget that jail game.” Wen Yang took a game controller out of Zhang Shaoqing’s drawer, “The other day I downloaded a co-op game, a single-player type, just in time for us to play together today. You fine with a controller?”
“Sure.”
