Chapter 31: Chapter 31
As Alex stepped out of the office building, the late afternoon sun warmed his face, and he couldn't help but chuckle at the confrontation he'd just had with Dan. The way the new boss had tried to assert his authority was amusing, almost desperate.
"Dan," he muttered to himself, shaking his head. "why act all high and mighty when you need someone, if he had treated me better, I would have stayed, but now,, what a joke."
Alex smiled as he recalled how riled up Dan had been during their exchange. The man was clearly struggling to keep his position secure, and it was strangely satisfying to see someone like Dan, with all his bossy arrogance, thrown off balance.
Later that evening, he gathered with a few of his colleagues at a local café. They often met here to unwind after a long day at the office, and tonight was no different. As they settled into their usual seats, Alex felt a mix of excitement and apprehension bubbling inside him. He was about to share something significant—his resignation.
"Hey, everyone," he started, trying to keep his tone casual. "I wanted to let you know that I've decided to resign from my position here."
The reactions were immediate and varied. Jane, seated across from him, raised her eyebrows in surprise. "What? Are you serious?"
"Yeah," Alex said, nodding. "I've been trading crypto for a while now, and I think it's time to pursue it full-time."
"That's big news!" she exclaimed, her voice a mix of admiration and concern. "Are you sure about this? You know how volatile the market can be, right?"
"Of course," Alex replied with a grin. "But I've been doing pretty well, and I feel like this is the right move for me."
Across the table, Tom chuckled. "Man, you're really going to ditch us for Bitcoin? What are you going to do? Start wearing hoodies and sipping energy drinks while day trading from your bedroom?"
Alex laughed. "Not quite. I'll still be the same old Alex, just with a little more freedom."
Rick, another colleague, chimed in. "Honestly, I think it's great. If you believe in it, go for it! But I'm going to miss having you around the office. Who else will keep us entertained with all those bizarre thoughts of yours?"
"Exactly!" Tom added. "You're the only one who can make those endless spreadsheets even slightly entertaining."
Alex felt a warm sense of camaraderie wash over him. "Thanks, guys. I'll miss this place too, but I think I need to take this step."
Jane leaned forward, her expression turning serious. "Just promise us you'll be careful. It's a big risk."
"I will," he assured her. "I've been planning this for a while now. And hey, if it doesn't work out, I can always come back and find a boring desk job, right?"
The group shared a laugh, but underneath the humor was an air of uncertainty. As they continued their discussion, Alex could see the concern in their eyes.
As the evening wore on, they joked about their office experiences, and he found himself feeling a bittersweet pang in his heart. He was genuinely going to miss these moments, the banter, the laughter, and even the grumbling about work. But deep down, he knew this was his path to something greater, something that aligned with his newfound sense of freedom and purpose.
After saying his goodbyes, Alex headed home, feeling lighter. He thought about how Dan might react to his resignation. Would he try to convince him to stay? Would he throw a tantrum? Alex smirked at the thought. Whatever it was, he was ready for it. After all, he was moving toward a future he had crafted for himself, one where he could define his own success and control his own destiny.
