Chapter 70
Shen Youlin vanished again, angering Yu Shu so much that she kicked the neighbor's armored door twice, but the door didn't budge at all and her high heel shoes broke.
After going home to change shoes, Yu Shu went about her business, driving her Mini Cooper to the airport to pick up Yu Yang.
Yu Yang had returned from studying abroad in Europe, gaining experience and becoming more upbeat over those two months. More importantly, he had lost weight and become more handsome!
Leaning against the car, Yu Shu couldn't help letting out a whistle when she saw him approach: "Hey handsome, where are you headed? Let big sis give you a ride."
Yu Yang's handsome face flushed red as he played along: "I want to go to big sis's soul, please show me the way."
Yu Shu opened the car door: "Then I'll have to take you down the Yellow Springs road."
"Sis! Talking like that, you'll never get a man!"
Yu Shu flirtatiously tossed her hair: "With a beauty like me, how could I not get a man?"
When they returned to the apartment, Yu Yang eagerly showed her the gifts, filling up a whole suitcase for Yu Shu.
"Look at this pair of dolls, hand-sewn by a little old lady in a small shop in Tuscany."
The quaint little dolls really looked like something that would give you nightmares on your bedside table.
"And this, it's a dream catcher supposedly made by a Gypsy witch, it catches nightmares when hung over your bed."
Wow, dolls giving nightmares and this thing catching them - one stop nightmare service!
"This one looks plain but it's actually the magic wand of a famous medieval witch, or so I was told."
I've seen these wand sticks being sold wholesale at the small commodities market near the zoo.
...
After looking through a pile of lovingly selected junk, Yu Shu heavily patted his shoulder: "You chose well, don't buy any more next time."
Yu Yang disappointedly hung his head: "You don't like any of them?" He opened the only small box left, "Maybe...maybe you can pick one bracelet you like out of these?"
The small box contained over twenty delicate and unique bracelets.
"I found them at some small shops and workshops, they're inexpensive. But the girls traveling with me said they look nice," Yu Yang looked at her with big puppy dog eyes, staring unblinkingly, "Do you like any of them?"
Yu Shu had really taken to wearing bracelets lately, seldom wearing the same ones two days in a row. She hadn't mentioned it but Yu Yang noticed.
"You chose very well, keep it up next time." Yu Shu reached out her sinful hands to ruffle his hair.
"Hmph...women."
The siblings hadn't seen each other in a long time and chatted for a while, mostly Yu Yang talking about what he had seen and heard those two months, with Yu Shu quietly listening and occasionally clapping to encourage him to continue.
That night, they packed up some gifts for Ye Ping and Yu Feng before going over to Yu Feng's place for dinner.
Yu Feng was the same as always, wearing a filthy apron, cooking in a greasy kitchen. He would always half-finish housework before abandoning it, leaving his rented home a dirty mess.
Yu Shu sighed, calling over some cleaners to tidy up while taking Yu Feng and Yu Yang out to eat instead.
Yu Feng kept saying he wanted to change but it was just talk. Years of habits and personality wouldn't change that easily.
Yu Shu felt frustrated and didn't want to manage things. She planned to keep her distance from them after Ye Ping was discharged from hospital, giving them enough money for a year but only meeting a couple times annually. It would be better for everyone that way.
The siblings left Chengdu the next day. Yu Yang's school was in N City and Yu Shu had scheduled surgery with a doctor there, so she drove him there on the way.
They still had a week before school started and registration so Yu Shu went to the cosmetic surgery hospital first, confirming the surgical plan with the doctor before quickly undergoing scar removal surgery on her left shoulder.
On the drive back from the hospital, Yu Yang carefully shielded her left side, terrified a careless person might bump into her.
Back in the hotel room, Yu Yang wiped his brow: "Scared me half to death!"
"It's passersby who got scared half to death, they probably thought you escaped from a lab as some Parkinson's zombie."
...
On the first day of school, she didn't let him take her out of the hotel since it was hot outdoors and her wound hadn't fully healed.
And so, Yu Yang hauling large bags and luggage to school that day contrasted sharply with other students who came with their whole families. He earned the endless sympathy of his roommates and their relatives.
That evening, the wealthy father of one roommate treated all the kids and parents to dinner, hoping to build bonds between the children for friendly relations over the next four years.
Yu Yang said he had to go back and accompany his sister. The rich dad said to bring his sister along too. After some hesitation Yu Yang agreed.
That night, Yu Shu made a dazzling entrance and Yu Yang gained several new "self-proclaimed brothers-in-law."
In the end, with all the guests satisfied, Yu Yang's future college life was sowed with countless new "brothers-in-law."
Yu Shu rushed back to Chengdu in time for her company's opening day. As the boss she couldn't miss such an important occasion.
The company was great, the employees were great, and the big soft sofa in her office was just perfect for naps!
After cutting the ribbon and returning to her cozy office, the first order of business was arranging the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day vacation time off.
Mid-Autumn festival was coming up in just over two weeks, falling on the Wednesday of the week before National Day which was next Tuesday. According to legal holidays, the three connected weekends would need adjusted days off as bridges.
"What adjusted days off, I hate that the most in life." Yu Shu circled dates on the calendar, "No adjusted days off, we're taking the full weekend and public holidays off!"
"Tsk, might as well give those Mid-Autumn festival and National Day work days off too while you're at it."
The HR manager grasped her pounding chest: "Then...then with this time off, half the month would be vacation." "Take it! We just opened and don't have much going on right now anyway."
And so the company that took half a month vacation just half a month after opening immediately went viral online.
Some netizens teased asking if the shady company was still hiring while others prematurely declared them bankrupt frauds that had just taken the money and run after half a month.
At month's end, employees posted screenshots of their salary transfers to prove the company was legit. They also took the chance for some advertising: "Yu Investment Co Ltd - we take time off without adjusting your schedule and build bridges over holidays. Salaries are paid on time at month's end. If you're looking for work don't miss out on this opportunity that passes but rarely comes again!"
