Chapter 25: Mousesack Headaches
Here comes the drama, Lann thought.
He wanted to become a witcher to fully activate his golden finger. Release all abilities, and then rely on adding points to obtain the power to form an army alone, destroy a country alone, and even dominate the world. You must know that the skills that Lann can choose now are less than a quarter of the total number!
As for side effects such as fertility, this world is so magical. With power and a long lifespan, what can’t be done? What he lacks most now is the key to unlock supernatural powers.
But Lann obviously couldn't talk to the druid like this. So how can he convince the old Druid to support his sudden and devious ideas?
The most complex ideas often require only the simplest explanations.
What's more, Lann itself is not without any basis for supernatural power.
[Talent: Ancient Blood (Unawakened)], sometimes it can play some unexpected roles.
“Dream.” Lann vowed. “I had a dream.”
“Dream?” Mousesack was stunned.
It's not that I don't believe it. Many magical Sources have premonitory dreams when they are not awake, and many people who have awakened magic but cannot become sorcerers or wizards also have the ability to be a dream fortune teller. After the destruction of Cintra, Ciri relied on dreams to avoid danger and point the direction many times; and when Geralt was searching for the adult Ciri, he too turned to a dream fortune teller for divination.
"After my parents died, you know I was seriously ill for a while. During this period, I had many dreams. I dreamed that Nilfgaardian soldiers invaded Cintra, and the cavalry crushed everything here, and the fire burned everything. And in the flames, a man with golden glowing eyes gathered the refugees and used magic to protect the remaining seeds of Cintra."
"I was tortured by this nightmare in my hospital bed for several months, and it didn’t go away until I recovered. But the scene in the dream lingered. That’s why I pursue magic and seek out witchers."
Lann Lannister, the heir of the ancient blood whose parents died because of Nilfgaard a year ago, said this.
If a peasant boy said this, he might be taken to exorcise the devil by his family; if someone from Nilfgaard said this, he might be burned to death; even if Lann said this to Queen Calanthe, he might be burned to death.
But how would Mousesack react if I told him these words? Who is an experienced and learned druid and spellcaster.
The more knowledge a person has, the more they will explore when they encounter knowledge that touches their own field of study. Many things that ordinary people think are impossible and unbelievable, scholars will not deny them the first time they see them but will analyze them.
So Mousesack began to analyze.
Is it a subconscious dream caused by the death of both parents? Does fear and hatred of Nilfgaard seep into Lann's dreams? Mousesack had doubts.
Or is it a precognitive dream caused by the Elder Blood, foretelling that Cintra will really be invaded by Nilfgaard in the future? But there is no record of the Elder Blood awakening in a male heir?
He took Lann's hand again and felt the power in his body. He doesn't feel anything. This body is no different from ordinary people.
He felt the hand of the young man in front of him tremble slightly as it was squeezed by him. It seemed like he was losing control of his emotions as he remembered his terrifying dreams and tragic past.
Mousesack relented.
After all, he is the child he has watched since childhood. Mousesack thought for a while and said: "You are indeed not a Source of magic, and there is no way to become a mage. I don't want you to become a witcher either."
"Let's do this, I will find a safer way, without side effects, so that you can have the power of magic. You must also promise me that you will not recklessly try those messy methods"
Lann nodded, that was enough.
Although there is no complete showdown, with this conversation as a starting point, it will obviously be much easier to get some occult help from Mousesack later.
And Lann now needs Mousesack's help.
"Uncle Mousesack, have you heard of Professor Tomas Moreau?" Lann said. "I heard when I was interrogating the witcher that this professor seems to be very famous in the research of witchers."
Mousesack was surprised to hear this name from Lann. He nodded and replied: "Indeed, he is famous in our circle for his keenness in studying witchers."
"But I haven't heard from him for a long time. There are rumors that he died in one of his secret laboratories. This is not a rare thing for mages. Is this what you heard from your witcher captive?"
Lann replied: "I wonder if that professor has some advanced witcher research results that have not been discovered. It is said that he has a laboratory in the Valley of the Nine, and I would like to visit it."
Of course, the bandit leader didn't know this kind of news. The information Lann said he obtained from the witcher actually comes from his memories of his previous life. Professor Tomas Moreau had a son who was a witch. He was committed to turning his son back into an ordinary person, but in the end, instead of reversing his son's mutations, he accidentally enhanced them. Thus, creating an unprecedented second mutation in a witcher.
Perhaps by comparing it to the Witcher Trials it can improve the success rate of the trial. Even if it doesn't work, it's good to have the experimental data for Mousesack's future research.
Mousesack sighed. "I know, I will ask my friends for information about Professor Moreau. But how did your witcher prisoner know this kind of information?"
Lann was well prepared for this. He took out the crystal from which he had absorbed all the magic power. "That witcher seems to have business relations with some mages who provide smuggling materials to needy witchers. I'm very interested in these things."
Mousesack took the crystal and looked at it for a while, then asserted: "This crystal is in good condition, but there is almost no magic power in it. This kind of crystal is a must-have for mages, and I also have a set of communications with this as the core device.”
Lann's eyes lit up, with the light of a child begging for gifts and pocket money from its parents.
Mousesack covered his eyes slightly and sighed again. He never thought that the first day back to Cintra would give him such a headache. "I can't give you mine. Normally, since there is no extra demand for it, I didn't pick it up deliberately, and you can't use this kind of rough stone. Forget it, if you like it, I will help you find some magic items that you can use."
Lann's eyes brightened: "Thank you, Uncle Mousesack."
The druid looked at the young blond man in front of him. He seemed to be a child the size of a pea, but in the blink of an eye he turned into a knight as tall as himself. He wanted to pat Lann's shoulder, but he couldn't find the right position for his raised hand.
"Just wait for the news from me. Don't make your own decisions and get in touch with some messy things."
"Certainly."
Mousesack rubbed his face and let the smile return to his face. "Is there anything else? I will teach Cirilla a lesson soon. Don't let me continue to have a headache."
Actually, no more, but the opportunity is rare. Lann thought for a while and said: "I'm very curious about things in the mage circle. If possible, could you introduce me to the most influential mages today?"
Mousesack nodded. "Okay, let's treat it as a continuation of your class."
As he spoke, he reached out and called Ciri, who had been looking around for a long time, to accompany Lann in the lesson.
"In the 8th century, the mages leaders Jan Bekker, Giambattista and Geoffrey Monck signed a non-aggression pact between the mages, the rulers, priests and druids to form the 'Novigradian Union', contributed to the separation of Sorcerers from state power. The autonomy of the Sorcerers gradually developed into the 'Brotherhood of Sorcerers', which united and controlled the vast majority of magic users."
"There are two more management organizations on the 'Brotherhood of Sorcerers', called the 'Chapter of the Gift and the Art' and the ' Council of Wizards'. Each of them has five mages as members. Being a total of ten powerful magicians who jointly manage the 'Brotherhood of Sorcerers'..."
...
In a secret laboratory on an unknown island.
A handsome man who looked about thirty-five years old was flipping through the magic book in front of him. He was dressed in a sophisticated mage's attire, but he was tall and strong.
“Vilgefortz, the witcher of Cintra is dead.”
Vilgefortz of Roggeveen, received the news.
