The Witcher: Lord of the Empire

Chapter 193: Shadows of Olgierd

As the witchers read Olgierd's two letters, the flames of the candles in the room began to gradually die down. In the darkness, something began to move stealthily.

Everyone present was a person with keen senses, accustomed to being alert even when performing other actions. When they looked up to investigate, the remaining flames in the room suddenly went out.

Before the darkness covered everything, the witchers could see some silhouettes in the air.

[Boom!]

Lann used his memory to aim and cast an [Igni Sign] towards the fireplace, lighting up the room again.

The light revealed twelve figures in the room.

In addition to Lann and his party, there were six other monsters with twisted limbs in the room.

They all wore hoods made of thick, dirty cloth stained with blood. They were tied with hemp ropes that penetrated deep into their flesh. What was most striking was that each of them had a scimitar inserted into their bodies, either through the chest or stuck in the neck. Any normal person would not be able to survive such wounds.

These six monsters had human limbs, but they were twisted and moved unsteadily. Two of them even used their ankles to walk. After sensing the room becoming bright again, they had removed their blood-stained hoods, revealing disfigured, eyeless faces.

They were like zombies.

They were all Olgierd!

“Iris’s greatest fear… is this the image of Olgierd in Iris’s mind now?”

These enemies were the main reason Lann had brought the witchers with him.

These six nightmare reflections of Olgierd surrounded the group, but only one would move at a time, while the other five remained stationary. The nightmare reflections only moved in two situations: if the previous reflection was eliminated, the next one would move in its place; or if someone attacked, they would also move in defense.

While this setup seemed to allow enemies to be calmly eliminated one by one, the nightmare reflections had another mechanism: the dead reflection would transfer its power to the remaining ones.

In other words, these nightmare reflections will become stronger and stronger as they are killed! Upon reaching the final reflection of nightmares, even swords might have a hard time piercing through it.

“One for each of them. Their strength is comparable to Olgierd’s. Letho should have already informed them about Olgierd’s abilities. The only difference with Olgierd is that they are not truly immortal and can be killed.”

"Only Letho and I here can guarantee a sure win against them." Lann looked at Letho. "Let's deal with the opponent as soon as possible, and the others try to delay and wait for us to come to support."

The witchers immediately prepared for combat, and the sound of swords being drawn could be heard in the room. Then, a golden light flashed, and six Quen Signs appeared on their bodies at the same time.

Lann took a deep breath, channeled his magical energy into his left hand and slammed the ground hard: [Yrden Sign]

A huge purple magic circle rose from the ground, covering almost the entire room. Lightning-like magic rays began to leap over the nightmare reflections, causing all the immobile monsters to move immediately.

"Go!"

Seeing the zombie Olgierd approaching, Lann cast an Igni Sign that engulfed him in flames.

The nightmare reflection was instantly swallowed by the flames, but then a thick black mist rose from the flames, and condensed above Lann's head, turning into an ugly arm holding a scimitar.

Lann's pupils suddenly shrank, and he rolled forward, dodging the enemy attack falling from above.

After finishing materializing, the nightmare reflection adopted an extremely awkward posture, like a broken doll, but its speed did not decrease.

He used a completely unnatural form of attack, repeatedly slashing at Lann with his scimitar. Although Lann managed to block all of the attacks without taking damage, the red light on the scimitar intensified with each attack.

The scimitar finally accumulated enough magic power and suddenly burst out a red sword slash energy more than a person tall, heading towards Lann.

At that moment, Lann rolled towards Olgierd, passing through the red cutting energy as if it were a breeze of air.

Because the nightmare reflection had exhausted all of its energy to launch the attack, it had no time to react to Lann's approach. And Lann took the opportunity to brandish the sword Aerondight, cutting off the opponent's right hand holding the scimitar. Then, Lann swung the sword and cut off the nightmare reflection's head.

But it didn’t end there. Knowing that the opponent has a certain degree of self-healing ability and had no vital points, Lann didn’t relax and placed the purple hourglass mark of the Yrden Sign on the opponent, releasing a purple ray. He then extended his left hand to begin generating flames.

[Igni Sign]!

The flames completely consumed the remains of the enemy. Lann did not dare to relax and continued to inject magic power to maintain the flames. Until accompanied by a hoarse and unpleasant cry, a stream of black mist emerged again in the flames in front of him.

But this time the black mist did not condense into a physical entity, but instead split into four parts in the air, flowing towards the remaining nightmare reflections.

What? Four parts? There are only four nightmare reflections now?

Lann watched carefully and saw that, besides him, Letho had just eliminated another nightmare reflection with a blast of telekinetic energy.

With the fusion of the black mist of the two dead nightmare reflections into the bodies of the remaining enemies, the four witchers fighting against them suddenly felt a great pressure.

Lann looked at his companions. Auckes and Serrit were working in perfect synchronicity, facing two nightmarish reflections at the same time. Although they could initially handle the situation, they were quickly overwhelmed by the increase in the enemies' strength. Letho was running towards them to offer aid.

Kiyan was handling the situation well. Lann had feared that the Cat School's combat style might be ineffective against such strong enemies without vital points, but Kiyan not only matched the strength of the nightmare reflection but could also accurately discern the position where the enemy would appear after turning into black mist, countering the ambush attempts.

It seems that the decades of experiments and demon possession have indeed greatly enhanced Kiyan's strength. He was also quite enjoying the battle, his eyes glowing with an increasingly intense red light. He could probably defeat the enemy in a few more rounds.

Then there is only one person left to care about - Kolgrim.

Kolgrim was stronger than Auckes and Serrit, but at the moment, the poison, the Viper School's favorite weapon, was ineffective, and he had no companions to protect him. He was quickly suppressed the moment the nightmare reflection strengthened.

The nightmare reflection slashed its scimitar with overwhelming force, instantly shattering the [Quen Sign] on Kolgrim's body and leaving a deep slash mark on his chest armor.

Kolgrim shouted angrily: "Damn pest! My new armor! I haven't even had time to enchant it yet!"

Before he could react, he felt a huge impact on his side, sending him flying through the air without resistance.

Where Kolgrim had been before, black mist had materialized, and the moment he flew out, the nightmare projection performed an attack that only hit the air.

While running, Lann retracted his left hand that was still clenching the sign stance, stepped forward and twisted his waist, and the rune sword burst out with golden light.

[Whirl]!

The nightmare reflection, seeing Lann's sword, tried to fight back with his own scimitar, but at that moment the teeth of a poisonous snake cut off his left leg. With his leg weakened, he bowed his head towards Lann, giving himself up to death.

After performing the attack, Kolgrim was already moving away. This was the most comfortable way for him to fight humanoid creatures.

The first turn of Lann’s sword dance cut off the enemy’s head. But that wasn’t enough. His body continued to spin with inertia, and the sword cut through the nightmare reflection’s body continuously.

He chopped the body of the nightmare reflection into minced meat until it completely turned into black mist and disappeared.

Elsewhere on the battlefield, Auckes and Serrit kept the pressure on the enemy, while Letho hid in the shadows and attacked, destroying the two nightmare reflections with ease.

This way Kiyan was the only one who continued fighting.

At this moment, there was still a thick black mist in the air that had not completely merged with the remaining nightmare reflection. Lann quickly took the opportunity to support Kiyan, leaving many wounds on the nightmare reflection. Then, the six witchers worked together to deal with the nightmare reflection before it fully recovered from the cuts and finally finished it off.

The black mist in the air, which had not yet fully incorporated into the nightmare reflection, dissipated into the air without a goal.

The candles in the room were relit, illuminating the room.
