Chapter 8
Song Luokui returned to her bedroom, read for a while, then took a shower and went to bed.
She almost didn't wake up from that sleep.
Early in the morning, Song Moqian and Sheng Rong went out to work, Song Luosheng finished breakfast and went out to play with his friends, while Song Luokui stayed in bed without getting up.
At home, Song Luokui was usually the last one to get up. Her family spoiled her, allowing her to sleep as late as she wanted. Song Moqian and Sheng Rong never said anything about it, they even said that being able to sleep was a blessing.
But Song Luosheng was different. If he got up late, he would get the bamboo stick from Song Moqian.
Until nearly noon, Song Luokui still hadn't gotten up, which made Aunt Gui feel puzzled. Normally, Song Luokui would have been up by around nine, but it was already past ten and there was still no movement.
Aunt Gui immediately went upstairs to check. There was no response when she knocked on the door. Worried that something might have happened, she quickly fetched the spare key and opened the door. As soon as she entered, she saw Song Luokui's face flushed red, burning up with a high fever.
She was unconscious.
Aunt Gui immediately called 120, then called Sheng Rong and Song Moqian. After that, she got some alcohol to wipe Song Luokui's body to bring down the fever. It was a flurry of activity. The ambulance arrived quickly and took Song Luokui away, with Aunt Gui accompanying her.
Meanwhile, Song Luosheng, who was playing football with his friends, heard the sound of the ambulance but didn't pay attention. Everything seemed fine at home when he left today, so he didn't think anything was wrong.
It was a neighbor's kid who ran over to him, "Boss! Boss! I saw the ambulance at your house just now, it seems like something happened to your sister!"
!!!
Song Luosheng kicked the ball away and immediately ran back home. However, when he arrived, there was no one at home. He quickly grabbed some money from the cabinet and ran out again, with Lin Xingyan and Zhou Yuan following him.
The three of them took a car to the hospital where Song Luokui often went. By this time, Song Luokui had already been taken into the emergency room.
Aunt Gui was anxiously waiting outside.
"Aunt Gui, what happened to Kui Kui?" It was very cold, but Song Luosheng was sweating profusely from running.
Aunt Gui wiped his sweat fearing he might get sick, "It's unclear yet. When I entered the room, Miss Kui was burning with fever, unconscious. It's all my fault for not checking on her earlier!"
Song Luosheng knew it wasn't Aunt Gui's fault, "It's not your fault, maybe Kui Kui just caught a cold." He hoped she had just caught a cold, but thinking about past incidents, even a minor thing could turn into a big problem for his sister.
Since she was five years old, the number of times Song Luokui went to the hospital every year had increased dramatically, and they were all sorts of strange accidents. Song Luokui also didn't go out to play much anymore, most of the time she stayed at home.
The family used to shower her with affection, but after this incident, their love for her intensified. It could be said that if they could pluck stars and moons for her, they would gladly do so. Fortunately, Song Luokui wasn't raised to be delicate; instead, she was strong and optimistic. Every time an accident occurred, she would console her family.
Song Luosheng's heart raced; he hoped that this time Luokui would bravely overcome the danger.
Soon, Song Moqian and Sheng Rong arrived. Shortly after, the doctor came out, "Who is the patient's family?"
Song Moqian and Sheng Rong immediately stepped forward, with Song Luosheng and Aunt Gui by their side. "The patient is in critical condition and needs immediate surgery," the doctor explained.
They nodded along as the doctor spoke. Regardless of what was said, they agreed. Song Moqian quickly signed the consent form, and the doctor went in for the surgery.
The operation lasted for several hours. When the doctor came out, he said, "The surgery was successful. The patient will be transferred to the ward soon. Barring any complications, she should wake up tomorrow, but we need to observe her for a few more days."
"Thank you, doctor. Thank you," Song Moqian shook the doctor's hand.
"Thank you, doctor," Sheng Rong also bowed to the doctor.
The doctor recognized them and helped them up, "No need to be polite; it's our duty."
Soon after, Song Luokui was wheeled out. Her face was pale, and she still had a breathing machine.
Feeling as if a heavy mountain pressed down on her, Song Luokui sensed her body's weight. Before long, it seemed as if her soul left her body. She witnessed how her brother competed with the male lead and twisted because of her death, seeing the entire family fall apart.
What's going on? She wasn't dead.
Song Luokui tried to wake up, but no matter how hard she tried to open her eyes, it felt as if she was being held down by a ghost. She kept shouting, "Wake up, wake up!"
No matter how loud she screamed, she couldn't seem to wake up. She even started pinching herself, but... no pain!
She was dumbfounded; she was in a dream!
On the side, Song Luosheng watched Song Luokui. Seeing her eyes moving, he immediately shouted, "Sister! Luokui! Are you waking up?"
Sheng Rong, hearing this, also looked over, "Luokui! Luokui!"
Amidst the calls of "Luokui," Song Luokui finally woke up. She smiled at Sheng Rong, "Mom."
Sheng Rong's eyes instantly teared up as she hugged her, "Luokui, you scared us."
Song Luokui realized she was back in the hospital, but why she ended up here was still unclear. She remembered sleeping. Did someone play ball and accidentally hit her room late at night, almost smashing her to death?
No, her room's window was closed, and the glass quality was strong. A soccer ball shouldn't have been able to break it.
After several days of recovery, Song Luokui finally figured out how she ended up in the hospital, hanging by a thread.
Because she cut her hand while cutting fruit, just a small wound, and even though she applied a band-aid afterwards, in just a short time, bacteria and viruses had already entered her body.
...This seems to be the doing of the plot god. It's probably because the Chinese New Year is approaching, and once she grows a year older after the New Year, she won't be suppressed by the plot god anymore. Therefore, at this critical moment, the plot god wants to kill her.
Hey, her life is resilient, they can't kill her!
A few days before the New Year, she finally could leave the hospital and go home, with her grandparents and other relatives coming over to celebrate the New Year together.
During these days preparing for the New Year, Song Luokui didn't step out of the door at all, and she didn't even do any chores. Buying New Year goods, pasting couplets, cleaning the house, buying new clothes, etc., were all taken care of by Sheng Rong and the others.
She just needed to stay at home quietly, and she wasn't even allowed to enter the kitchen now, just because of that tiny wound, everyone was afraid to let her do anything.
Song Luokui was obedient too, spending her days chatting with the elderly, watching TV, etc. She became cautious even in her walks, fearing that the plot god might pull a big one and cause her to fall to her death.
She didn't fall to her death, but when she was taking a shower, the warm water suddenly turned scalding hot. Luckily, she didn't use the shower directly; she was planning to take a bath and tested the water temperature with her hand, almost yelping from the heat.
The family rushed to apply medicine to her, and luckily Song Luokui quickly rinsed with ice water, preventing her hand from blistering.
Until the eve of the New Year, the plot god couldn't manage to kill her. Song Luokui passed the New Year's Eve unharmed, and as the countdown approached, she kept her eyes on the time, ten, nine, eight, seven... one!
"Happy New Year!" Everyone on the TV and in reality was wishing each other a happy New Year. Song Luokui also received several big red envelopes.
Watching the fireworks outside, Song Luokui felt that her new life was about to begin!
