The Villainous Family Loves Me Too Much!

Chapter 23

As Lucian poured magic over the hawk, it slowly reverted back to human form.

The original form of the hawk was, as expected, an adult male.

‘Indeed, it’s a humanoid monster.’

And a familiar face at that, Mackeon from the Knights of Felosite.

“Have you found it, Your Highness?”

Just then, Sylonne and the knights arrived, and they were shocked seeing the fallen Mackeon.

“Did you, Your Highness, personally deal with this guy’s drunken antics? If so, he really deserves a beating once he wakes up!”

“He’s a humanoid monster.”

Upon Lucian’s bombshell, the knights, who were helping Mackeon up, were startled and dropped him to the ground.

A moment of silence flowed among the knights.

The knights seemed unsure of how to respond as their lord suddenly spouted nonsense.

Sylonne, watching the hesitating knights, laughed heartily.

“Why suddenly start this again, brother! No matter how much you dislike Mackeon, come on. A humanoid monster! There’s no such thing. Although he looks like a monster due to his ugly looks-“

“Then you check it yourself.”

“I was going to do that anyway.”

Sylonne had the knights surrounding Mackeon step back.

“Everyone, watch closely! I bet my magic sword of Felosite that Mackeon is not a monster!”

Sylonne jokingly tapped her sword on her hip and reached out towards Mackeon.

Suddenly, black flames soared around Mackeon.

“…”

“It can’t be, is he really a monster…?”

As the dark flames disappeared like smoke, a stunned Sylonne stood there staring blankly at Mackeon.

Lucian reached out his hand emotionlessly to Sylonne.

“Give me the sword.”

* * *

“Let go! I will kill that traitorous bastard myself! Pretending to be human and entering the knights’ corps as a monster? I will kill him right now!”

After a while of raging and glaring at Mackeon as if to kill him, Sylonne was dragged away by the knights, and Mackeon could finally exhale the breath he had been holding.

“Phew… I apologize, Commander. I am really sorry…”

He hung his head, his limbs tied, hanging on the wall.

The infamous special prison of Felosite.

It was a secret place, a subterranean prison without a shred of light and multiple protective spells ensuring that even the entrance and exit weren’t well known.

Mackeon never imagined in his life that he would be imprisoned in this dreadful place, but part of him felt fortunate.

‘The witch wouldn’t be able to find me here.’

Still, this level of suffering was bearable.

When Colin scrambled through his mind, dying seemed a better option.

From the very beginning of his life, Mackeon was nothing but a sacrifice for Colin.

His parents, who were fallen nobles, had sold him to Baron Piaget as a newborn. Thus, he had grown up doing the menial chores for the Baron’s family from a young age.

Once he grew up a bit, thanks to the Baron’s close relationship with the royal family and reputation, Mackeon was able to obtain a new name and title.

In return, he had to agree to the condition that both his body and mind would belong to Colin.

Of course, Mackeon’s choice was not considered in this process.

Mackeon had no regrets whatsoever, neither towards the princess nor the young boy of the Count’s family he had attacked.

Because when he turned into a monster, he had no idea what he was doing.

When he was assigned the role of infiltrating Felosite as a spy, he was actually glad. Without Colin’s touch, he wouldn’t have to go through the painful process of turning into a monster for a while.

He even dreamt of living a new life as a citizen of Felosite when contact with the Empire was cut off for two years.

Being tormented by the quirky Knight Commander Sylonne, or the teasing from colleagues who would play cruel jokes on naive, alcohol-intolerant, youngest member Mackeon, were all part of a normal routine that he quite enjoyed.

‘It was nice in its own way…’

He was having the happiest days of his life.

Until one day Colin suddenly appeared in Feloste.

Colin came looking for him every day, and the monstrosity that had tormented him all his life began again.

‘I want to die as a human, not as a monster.’

Mackeon wanted to escape from this shackle, even if it meant facing death.

Although it was the worst situation, he hoped for an unexpected opportunity if he cooperated, and closed his eyes.

Then-

Tap.

The sound of a woman’s shoes echoed in the quiet room where nobody should have been.

Creak-

The iron door opened with an unpleasant sound, tearing at the ears.

“Big brother.”

Lifting his head towards the source of the sound, Mackeon’s face paled like a blank sheet.

“Co-Colin. How did you…”

As if fate was playing tricks, Colin was standing in front of Mackeon again.

* * *

It had been over a week since the Felosite family stayed at Count Kenoch’s house.

Excluding the Archduke, all the in-laws had brought one or two servants from Felosite castle to help relieve the workload of the Count and his wife, under the pretext of taking care of me.

Among them were Chef Phil and Nox.

“Nox, how did you come here from the bakery?”

“How could I sit still when Your Highness is unwell! Just tell me any dessert you want to have!”

“Is it alright to leave the shop like that?”

“It’s okay! My assistant is quite capable! Hahaha!”

With the help of many people, my health was noticeably improving.

At first, even a slight movement of the upper body was accompanied by immense pain, but now I have reached a point where I can leisurely take walks.

Seeing the astonishing speed at which I recover every day, I started to suspect that perhaps Jonathan’s abilities have had some effect on me.

“Come on silly sister, let’s go for a walk!”

Since he hadn’t yet awakened any abilities, I couldn’t tell if it was due to a healing ability or because he kept urging me to move.

Jonathan nagged me every day to go out for a walk outside the castle. Thanks to him, I was out on a picnic with Count and Countess Kenoch.

Although the glaring sunlight was a bit sharp on my eyes, it wasn’t unbearably hot.

“Wow! There’s a spotted cow! It looks really ugly, just like you sis!”

Jonathan laughed heartily, took my hand, and hopped around gleefully.

“Be careful, Jonathan! She’s still not fully recovered.”

When grandma warned Jonathan, his touch became cautious towards me. He cautiously tried to match his pace with mine, which looked awkward yet adorable, causing me to smile unwittingly.

The picnic spot was a farm owned by the Count, not far from the Kenoch estate. In the vast meadow, cows were enjoying sunbathing and resting. We sat down under the shade of a tree on a hill. The vast plains, beautiful mountains, and sky merged together, appearing like a picturesque scene.

A comfy chair had been prepared for me since I still had difficulty sitting down and standing up freely.

“Since you’re in pain, just sit comfortably on this cloud-like chair! I’ll go play with the spotted cow!”

Jonathan, seeing a cow grazing grass below the hill, rushed towards the fence. Acting just like a boy of his age, he hung on the fence, swinging back and forth, mimicking the cow’s mooing.

“Moooo!”

After being attacked by the monster, and having been confined indoors for a while, he seemed quite excited to be outside the castle.

“Moooo!”

Hearing Jonathan’s mooing, the cows here and there began to moo back. Despite the small number of cows, it got quite noisy.

“It’s very noisy, though it doesn’t seem like there are many cows.”

Suddenly Count Kenoch pointed to the red-roofed buildings while giggling like a child. The usually composed Count with charismatic black hair and a deep voice was now full of playful mischief.

“Do you really think there aren’t many cows, Rena? Do you see the big barn over there? There, and there too.”

I tilted my head and looked over the hills he pointed at.

“Not long ago, your husband brought a bunch of cows. Now they have built barns around here to keep them.”

“Really? The Archduke brought cows?”

“Yes, you said you needed a lot of milk. When you were unconscious, he brought thousands of cows, which was quite surprising.”

Where on earth did he find so many cows?
