Chapter 42 - The Transformation of the Villainesses (1)
One day, suddenly, Yuri started acting strange.
“Da-Damian…! Be careful…! That woman might be nearby…!”
“Who’re you talking about?”
“She’s…! A very evil woman…!”
Yuri was on high alert for an evil woman.
The possible candidates for such a woman flashed through my mind.
‘Who could it be? Bluebell? Nadia? Or maybe Charlotte?’
Hmm.
By my standards, the only truly evil one was Nadia.
But as far as I remembered, Nadia had no real connection with Yuri.
So, Nadia was automatically out.
That left two possibilities.
Considering everything, Yuri must be thinking of one person.
“Are you talking about Bluebell?”
Yuri nodded vigorously.
“Yes. That’s right…! You have to be careful, Damian…! She’s going to make our lives miserable…!”
Yuri spoke with a serious expression.
Bluebell had shown some signs of bullying before.
It appeared like she had already started targeting Yuri.
‘I understand why she’s so alarmed. Bluebell dislikes everyone except me…’
Alright.
I softly patted Yuri’s head and said.
“I’ll help you. I’ll make sure Bluebell can’t bother you again. Let’s go.”
“Okay…! Thanks Damian…!”
Of all days, I had to mediate between Yuri and Bluebell on the day the main event of the original story was supposed to happen.
Fortunately, I still had plenty of time, so I walked to the classroom to find Bluebell.
I approached her and motioned for her to follow me.
“Come with me. I need to talk to you.”
“Talk? Does it have to be outside?”
“Yes. It’s important.”
Bluebell smiled expectantly.
“Alright, let’s go, Damian! Finally made up your mind, huh?”
“…”
It seemed she misunderstood my intention.
I led Bluebell out of the classroom and took her to a secluded rooftop, where Yuri was already waiting.
The moment Bluebell and Yuri’s eyes met.
“What’s she doing here?”
Bluebell’s expression soured.
Yuri’s reaction was the same.
“… Th-that evil woman! Damian, come over here! Stay away from her!”
The two glared at each other, baring their teeth.
Among the villainesses, Yuri and Bluebell especially didn’t get along.
Their first meeting wasn’t pleasant, and many misunderstandings had piled up between them.
So, I decided to have them clear up these misunderstandings together, using a bit of mirror therapy.
To facilitate the mediation, I stood between Bluebell and Yuri and spoke to Bluebell.
“Bluebell.”
“What? Why?”
“Just to be sure, did you bully Yuri?”
“Huh?”
Bluebell frowned and got angry.
“What do you think of me to ask if I bullied her? Why would I bother with someone like her? I haven’t bullied her.”
“Really?”
“Really!! Why would I bully her?”
She appeared genuinely upset.
‘Could it be that Bluebell didn’t bully her?’
First, I needed to understand what happened.
I looked at Yuri and asked.
“What happened that made you think Bluebell bullied you, Yuri?”
“See!! Without even hearing how I was bullied, you blamed me?! Seriously, Damian! Just jump off the roof!! Or jump with me!!”
In her frustration, Bluebell suggested a double suicide to prove her innocence.
I gave her a small nod of apology and turned to listen to Yuri first.
“What exactly happened?”
“In my locker room… someone put my training clothes together with my school uniform… So, I think it was that girl… There’s no one else who would do something like that…!”
Ha—
Bluebell responded to Yuri’s claim with a bitter laugh.
“Do you have any evidence that I did it?”
“… Where were you during the third period yesterday?”
“Third period? I was attending class with Damian then. Right, Damian?”
That was true.
Bluebell was in class with me and didn’t leave her seat during the break.
I remember it well because she insisted on talking with me instead of letting me go to the bathroom.
“Indeed, Bluebell was talking to me. So, that means Bluebell isn’t the culprit.”
“That, that can’t be…! Someone definitely put my training clothes there…! There’s no one else but her…!”
Yuri was adamant that Bluebell was the one.
However, Bluebell was clearly not the culprit.
There was no evidence, and she had an alibi since she was with me.
Annoyed by Yuri’s persistent accusations, Bluebell met Yuri’s red eyes and shouted loudly.
“Don’t accuse innocent people. It’s annoying! And Damian, you.”
“Me?”
“You brought me here without even thinking of trusting me? You’re just useless.”
Whack!
“Ouch!”
Bluebell kicked my shin with her shoe on.
It hit the bone, causing terrible pain.
Even after that, Bluebell was still not satisfied and gave me the middle finger before leaving the rooftop.
In the end, we couldn’t find the person who intentionally harassed Yuri.
“… It’s not Bluebell.”
“That, that can’t be… If it’s not her… I don’t think anyone else would bully me… What, what do you think, Damian…?”
“I don’t know since there’s no evidence. But I don’t think it’s Bluebell.”
“Re, really…? So, you don’t believe what I’m saying…?”
Yuri grabbed my sleeve tightly.
She looked up at me with a desperate expression.
“Please, believe me, Damian… She did it… I can feel it… She really bullied me… We’re friends… Friends should trust each other… Right…?”
Friends.
Whether it was true or false.
Yuri always wanted me to believe her.
She desperately appealed to me, her only friend, to trust her.
Even though the evidence clearly showed that Bluebell wasn’t the culprit.
‘She just wants me to believe her…’
Even if it was nonsense, Yuri wanted me to believe her.
Even if she said the Earth was flat, she wanted me to believe her.
‘If I don’t believe Yuri, who will? And if I don’t…’
Surely.
She would probably unleash her anger on Bluebell.
Because she saw Bluebell as the root of the problem.
I couldn’t heartlessly reject Yuri.
Even if the consequence tightened the noose around my neck even more.
“… Alright, I believe you. I’ll suspect Bluebell of bullying you. Is that okay, Yuri?”
“Th-thank you, Damian… for believing me…”
“Of course, it’s only natural to believe in a friend.”
“Ehehe… Still, thank you…”
As I patted her head, Yuri seemed to regain her composure.
Good.
At least, her emotions didn’t surge out of control.
‘Today’s an important day. If her emotions fluctuate, it could be a disaster.’
I needed to maintain as much composure as possible.
I did my best to calm Yuri’s emotions.
“Because we’re friends… Right…? It’s natural to believe in a friend…?”
“Of course. Because we’re friends.”
“Best friends…”
“Yes, best friends.”
Best friends.
Such a pleasant ring to it.
‘A perfect term to suppress behavior. It’s quite a charming word.’
Even though it was a term that also restrained me.
I thought the fact that we both had a leash on each other was quite appealing.

Step! Step!
Bluebell muttered to herself as she walked back to the classroom.
“That perceptive girl. How did she figure it out was me right away? Good instincts?”
She wiped the cold sweat off her forehead, afraid that Damian might notice.
When Damian found out that she was the one who had been bullying her.
The thought of that situation made Bluebell a bit scared, but she believed that if she bullied her cleverly, she wouldn’t get caught next time either.
“Even if Damian is smart, he has a lot of blind spots. It’s easy to fool him. I just need to be careful of that gloomy idiot.”
Good.
‘I should bully her more next time, so she stays away from Damian.’
“Someone like you being by Damian’s side is a nuisance to him. I wish you would give up on the idea of taking a spot that’s beyond your reach.”
After spilling out the pent-up venom, Bluebell felt much better.
Clearing her mind with these refreshing thoughts, she entered the classroom.
Soon, Bluebell’s followers approached her.
Among them were a countess and a commoner from the department.
“Bluebell! What did Demian say?”
“Nothing much.”
“R-really? Thank goodness… I thought we got caught…”
“Well done on not getting caught. If another opportunity arises next time, you can do it, right?”
The girl from the count’s family answered with a smile.
“Of course! I can do anything! After all, I’m your friend, Bluebell!”
“… Yeah, friends are nice.”
“Um. About that thing… The leather import for our family…”
“You said it’s hard to store, right? Tell them to send the documents to our family. We’ll provide support.”
“Thank you, Bluebell!”
“What’s there to thank?”
‘I should be the one thanking.’
‘Because I can bully that girl, Yuri, over such a trivial matter.’
‘Without the risk of Damian finding out.’
‘Getting caught by Damian is the scariest thing after all.’
‘That gloomy girl sticking to Damian’s side embarrassed me in the cafeteria? I’ll never forget that.’
Bluebell held grudges longer than anyone else.

Fourth period.
As the lecture ended, the students were bustling towards the cafeteria.
However, the students in the classroom couldn’t go out to the hallway.
Just like in a novel.
Because an incident occurred.
“Is there a girl named Elisha in this classroom? If she’s here, come out immediately. If anyone hides her, they will be killed.”
Men wearing black cloaks were looking for Elisha.
They were from an organization that framed the crown prince in the original story.
They raided the academy and invaded the classroom I was in to take Elisha hostage.
“If no one comes out, I will kill one person every minute. Come out immediately.”
They took ordinary students hostage while saying this.
The man in the black hood really looked like he would kill someone.
He pulled out a dagger and pointed it at the neck of the girl in the front row.
“There are 20 seconds left. Come out now.”
“…”
“I know you’re here! Come out now!”
“…”
She still didn’t seem to have any intention of coming out.
She was hiding under the desk, trembling with fear.
‘In the original story, she only came out after that girl died, didn’t she?’
She felt guilty that someone died because of her.
It was a perfect plot where the crown prince comforted her.
From my perspective, knowing the story.
‘I could have saved her if she came out earlier.’
“Ten seconds left.”
So, I wanted to minimize the number of victims as much as possible.
Because I was the only one who knew the story’s content.
I should change the unpleasant parts.
Reading my eyes, Charlotte shook her head, signaling me not to do it.
“Damian. Don’t do it. There’s no need to step forward. It’s better to stay still to survive.”
“… Not for me.”
The situation was different for me and Charlotte.
Staying still would only lead to a quicker death.
So, I bravely stood up and pointed my finger.
“3…”
“She’s here. Elisha is hiding under the desk.”
My voice echoed through the classroom.
The atmosphere turned cold.
At that moment, Elisha looked at me and muttered.
“You bastard…”
From her perspective, it wasn’t a wrong statement.
