Chapter 564 1.563 Regulator Luciana's Diary
"The Regulator Luciana's Diary Volume [-]":
Date: 1E 2712? (month and day unknown).
I write this diary with unsteady hands. The cyborg says I'll soon have full control over my new fingers.I doubt it.
I never kept a diary. It might seem like an act of vanity—putting your life's quest on paper. As if everyone wanted to read it.But given where it is now, I think it's worth the effort.I found myself in a very strange place - Clockwork City.
This is not an easy journey.I can't remember much.It seems that there are trees, Valen Forest.I remember hitting something with the summoned magic knife and a flash of light.what else?Only pain and whispers.
When I awoke, I found myself suspended inside a glass sphere -- submerged in some sort of viscous liquid.Polished metal clips held my shattered limbs in place while micromechanical creatures sewed flesh to new brass prosthetics.Surprisingly, I felt I had no need to breathe - only a deep longing and dreamlike spirit (supporting me).I saw a tall elf staring at me from the other side of the glass, his face distorted by the curvature of the sphere. He called himself Sotha Hill and told me I would live.He also said that I had a son.
What a surprise.I didn't even know I was pregnant.Apparently, when the mechanical bodies rushed to stabilize my shattered body, they spotted the tiny, breathless child. In Tamriel, a severe premature birth would have condemned him to death, but here the impossible seemed effortless.
I never thought I would have children.Walking around with a child on your back while fighting the Akaveli of Dragonland is completely impractical. But time and circumstances have made fools of us all.
I named him Marius—his father's grandfather's name.If I die from my wounds, I hope this diary will let him know something. He should at least know his own life experience.
Date: 1E 2712 (?) Sun Moon 15th.
The more I learn about Clockwork City, the more it appeals to me.The Brass Fortress provides a comfortable living environment. It's a dry, hard place - full of strange machines and strange people. Most are dark elves.Sure, I've seen the Dunmer before, but these clockwork apostles seem to be one of a kind. They honor logic and innovation above all else. Can you imagine? My fellow battlemages often mock me for my fixation on cool reason: "Where's your passion, Luciana?" As if I have no passion in my rigorous mind.
Sotha Hill still comes to check on me from time to time.I've never met anyone like him.The apostles worshiped him like a god, but I could feel that making him uncomfortable. He makes eye contact only occasionally—not out of cowardice. He's just always preoccupied with other things.A piece of equipment, a book, or some other odd clockwork.Whenever the opportunity presented itself, I asked him questions—about the nature of the place, his motives, his history.I never got a straight and clear answer from him.Still, he seems to enjoy walking around.I could feel that even here, surrounded by admirers and loyal machines, he was still desperately alone.
The apostles keep telling me that blasphemy is acceptable here — even encouraged. But this seems to be a "faith without a spine".I told Lector Marilia, a caretaker lecturer, about my conversation with the "clockwork god" and she was petrified. For example, I asked Sotha Sil about the persistent rumors about him and other members of the Tribunal murdering the Dark Elf King Induril Nerevar.According to Maria, the topic is an absolute no-no.Even so, Sousa Hill answered my questions with a calm grace that surprised me.
"Why do you think it happened?" he asked.I told him I didn't understand the question.
"Why do we sit here talking? Why does young Marius exist? Why do I rule here while you heal inside?"
I sat quietly for a while, then replied, "Because that's the way it is."
His icy face melted into a serious half-smile: "Indeed."
I can't be sure, but there was relief in his voice. His shoulders relaxed, his tone changed—he looked like someone who had found peace in sin.Not long after, he thanked me for talking and left the room in silence.
I looked down at Marius, who was sound asleep in the brass crib.In that moment, everything seemed to make sense.Clockwork City is finally starting to feel at home. "

After a year of contemplation, I've decided to take a spot on The Clockwork Apostle. At least I think it's been a year - time goes by very strangely here.
It's not an easy decision. In my heart, I have never ceased to serve my lord Reman Cyrodiil. But now, the conflict in Tamriel seems far away.Akavir, Valen Forest, Colovian (with the city of Chorrol, one of the nine great cities of Cyrodiil); they are all so far away—far from everything that is here.In Clockwork City, labor, logic, and order are required. As King Seth's apostle, I can make a real contribution. And, honestly, if there's anyone in my mind who deserves to replace Reman Cyrodiil, it's Sotha Hill.
Initially, I struggled with the idea of worshiping him - mostly because he seemed uncomfortable with it.I worry that our conversation will break off, or that he won't remember me much.Luckily, he seemed happy when I told him the news.
"I can't think of anything better," he said. Then he knelt beside Marius, and took his little hand. For a moment he seemed very distant—almost sad. Finally, he whispered, "Your mother was strong and wise. I'm glad I found you both."
Not sure why, but I blurted out: "Why did you save us?"
King Seth paused for a moment, then whispered, "Because one day you will shine."
Before I could ask him what he meant, he disappeared. And Marius smiled. He had been watching with interest Sotha Hill disappearing into the light. For my part, I feel a sense of unease.Hope I didn't offend him.
Date: 1E 2721 (?) 26th of First Bud.
Something is not right.Marius had another physical problem.According to the monitoring machine, he became weak, short of breath, and collapsed outside of The Cloisters. This is the third time in as many weeks.
At first I thought he was just pushing himself too hard.A nine-year-old boy has a tendency to push himself too hard, and he's always a little weak. But when I found him in the room, he was pale and his voice was rapid. He asked me what was wrong.I told him I really don't know.Tomorrow I'll take him to see Factotum Medica.
Date: 1E 2721 (?) 9th Rain Palm.
After several days of testing, the robot and the clinician finally came to a diagnosis: a birth-related heart defect.Apparently, the circumstances of his birth (my ruined body, his severe premature birth, and the journey across the planes) caused some sort of haemorrhage or twisted arteries. In Tamriel, he may be dead.Or rather, a second death.
I asked for a prognosis, but the cyborg declined due to the wide range of potential outcomes. He could live to be 30, or he could die tomorrow. In either case, his life will be difficult and short.I'm still (uncharacteristically) optimistic.King Seth mended worse wounds (than my son) and brought life back to the breathless. In the Clockwork City, Marius' flaws were not irreparable. When Sotha Hill is out of her seclusion, I'll petition him.
