Chapter 7 - Episode 007: Headhunter, Arriving at the Destination
Episode 007: Headhunter, Arriving at the Destination
“That’s Farmrest, the second city of the Kingdom of Karm?”
Several tens of days have passed since departing from the border town.
Throughout the journey, they were feared by people and attacked by monsters along the way. Occasionally, they were refused accommodation at inns so to rest Tina’s body, they stayed at a sergeant’s house.
(Note:I think this “sergeant” is different from last time. The first one is from border town of MC’s home kingdom while the second one is from the cities they past through in Kingdom of Karm I guess)
Finally, they reached a small hill where they could overlook the destination city.
“Nice atmosphere.”
“Yeah.”
Being the second city, it was bustling, with people living there brimming with smiles, and the atmosphere was peaceful, seeming to have good public safety.
As heard in stories, there was no rainy season, and the climate of the Kingdom of Karm was stable, making it an easy environment to live in with temperatures not too cold or too hot.
“Shall we go?”
“Yeah.”
Ack and the others decided to enter the city promptly.
As they approached the city gate, unlike usual where people around would be afraid, the people here didn’t seem to mind even with Ack around.
“Wow, it’s big. What’s your purpose in coming to this city?”
The gatekeeper, without fear even when Ack’s turn came, had a normal attitude, which confused Ack instead.
“…We’re moving here.”
“I see. It’s a big welcome for new residents to come to the city. And that rabbit?”
“It’s a familiar.”
“I see. Familiars need to register with the Adventurers Guild and get a familiar certificate. I’ll give you guidance, so please register.”
“Got it.”
Ack was surprised at how easily he could enter the city.
Guided by the assigned soldier, they arrived at the Adventurers Guild.
“Hello. What can I assist you with?”
A cheerful greeting from the receptionist left Ack constantly perplexed.
“I’d like to register as an adventurer and register my familiar.”
“Understood.”
Registering as an adventurer was necessary for familiar registration, but it was also important for obtaining information about monsters.
Adventurers were similar to mercenaries, handling a wide range of tasks such as subjugating monsters, investigating, collecting items, and miscellaneous tasks, akin to jacks-of-all-trades.
As the Kingdom of Karm had alliance relationships with surrounding countries and few wars, many people were active as adventurers, and information about monsters gathered here.
They would quickly obtain information about fluffy monsters and tame them.
“Yes, no problem. I’ll issue your guild card and familiar certificate, so please wait a moment.”
Once the procedures were accepted, Ack received the guild card and a familiar certificate resembling a bright red scarf.
“Kyu!”
As soon as it was put on, Snow puffed up proudly.
“Hey, isn’t that a Headhunter Rabbit?”
“It certainly looks like it.”
“But Headhunter Rabbits don’t usually get attached to anyone, do they?”
“Let alone becoming someone’s familiar.”
Seeing Snow perched on the opposite shoulder of Tina, the adventurers inside the guild whispered to each other.
However, due to the preconception that a terrifying Vorpal Bunny would become someone’s familiar, its true identity wasn’t revealed.
“We’d like to sell too.”
“Understood. How much are you looking to sell?”
“It’s reasonably packed in the magic bag.”
“In that case, please follow me to the dismantling warehouse.”
“Got it.”
Ack and the others followed the receptionist.
“Excuse me, this customer seems to have a large sales request, so please assist.”
“Sure thing.”
“Now, please follow the instructions.”
“Sure.”
Arriving at the dismantling site, the receptionist left.
“Are you with your kid? That’s unusual. Then come over here.”
Ack and the others were guided by the staff to an open area.
“Can you bring them out here?”
“Got it.”
Following the instructions, they took out the monsters they had hunted along the way. The open area was filled with piles of monsters.
“Whoa! It’s all high-rank monsters. Who are you, kid?”
“Former mercenary.”
“I see. You must be quite a famous mercenary.”
The surprised staff, upon hearing Ack’s reply, nodded in understanding.
“With this much, we won’t be done today. Can you come back tomorrow?”
“Understood.”
Receiving the exchange vouchers, Ack returned to the reception.
“I’d like to do business, what should I do?”
Not knowing the details of the procedures required to open a cafe, Ack asked the receptionist.
“Please consult with the Commercial Guild.”
“Got it… Also, is there an inn where familiars can stay?”
“Yes. In that case—”
When I looked outside, it seemed like the sun was about to set, so I decided to postpone consulting about the café at the Commercial Guild until tomorrow and secure accommodation for today instead.
Ack was able to secure a room safely at the inn introduced by the receptionist.
“Delicious.”
“Yeah, tasty.”
“Kyu.”
The dinner served was delicious, and it was understandable why the receptionist had recommended it. It also served as a good learning experience for opening the café.
After bathing Tina and Snow, who were dozing off, and cleaning himself up, Ack slipped into the bed where Tina and Snow were sleeping.
Relieved to have finally reached their destination and warmed by Tina and Snow’s presence, he was lured into a deeper sleep than usual.
