Chapter 71
The Emperor summoned Leia Lindbergh, Carl Lindbergh, Adrian Heineken, and Belfry Hendrick all in the afternoon the next day.
“Are you all going to Lindbergh together?”
Everyone, except Adrian who had been told beforehand, was surprised.
Carl Lindbergh was the most surprised. While it was inconvenient to place Leia as the King of the Principality of Lindbergh alone, he hadn’t expected Glenn to order her to go along, and that he would bring the Crown Prince and his close aides with her.
“What’s strange about it? Lindbergh has now become a vassal state of Heineken internationally. Although they are declaring independence as a principality, no one can think of Lindbergh and Heineken separately.”
Glenn tapped the table.
“An unusual magic was detected in Parman yesterday. It seems something has crossed over into Lindbergh while Heineken’s border surveillance was lax. The problem is that it might not be a person, and that’s worrying.”
“Not a person?” Belfry asked.
“Is it a ghost?” Carl was bewildered, and while he wondered if a ghost had crossed over, Glenn opened a map that moved with magic.
“It’s estimated that a group of beasts entered the Mibari Forest.”
“Beast? Are you talking about a demon?”
Leia asked, and Glenn nodded.
“The Mibari Forest is known to have frequent demon movements.”
The foundation of modern magic, the magic stone, and high-purity magic stones were places where the number of demons was necessarily high.
Carl Lindbergh also knew this. In this world, demons were creatures that were abandoned by God and did not belong to any ecosystem. They formed groups and had cores similar to magic, making them difficult for humans to handle.
Just as the carcasses of beasts created oil, the carcasses of demons fused with natural elements to create magic stones.
That was why everyone recognized demons as dangerous beings, but did not rashly reduce their numbers. They were an indispensable existence.
As Leia said, the largest forest on the continent, surrounding the Mochu Mountains, was famous for having many demons inhabiting it, and because of that, the Mochu Mountains could hold a large quantity of high-quality magic stones.
The Mochu Mountains were geographically tilted towards Lindbergh and have been tentatively recognized as Lindbergh territory since ancient times, but in fact, quite a few countries shared the border.
However, as Adrian had said at some point, mining magic stones required considerable cost and time, so no one dared to start. Especially since the head of the mountain range, where the most magic stones were located, was in Lindbergh, no matter how high the purity, it was difficult to invest in high-end equipment and manpower to get a few pieces of magic stones.
“Parman is the only place where the Mochu Mountains do not extend. If a large amount of magic moved at once in Parman, it means it was sent on purpose.”
As Glenn reached out and channeled magic into the map, blue dots traced a path from Parman, through northern Lindbergh, and into the Mibari Forest.
“Are you saying that Parman is taming the demons?” Belfry’s eyes widened.
Demons hated humans. That was their nature.
While it might be possible to tame them, it would have taken countless lives to achieve it.
“Parman has been closed for hundreds of years. No one knows what happens inside. The important thing is that they moved, however little.”
Glenn clenched his fist.
The map, which had been faintly glowing, disappeared, instantly turning back into a simple glass table.
Carl swallowed hard.
Magic, he had tried it once, but he was still inexperienced, and even though he knew the secrets of the magic formulas, he was limited in his application, so he couldn’t understand it at all.
“Why they moved the demons instead of sending soldiers to Lindbergh directly, that is to be seen, but it’s not a bad idea to be prepared.”
Glenn, resting his chin on his hand, said to Leia.
“Leia Lindbergh, your burden as a Princess is heavy.”
“It’s unavoidable. I wasn’t unprepared for this level of trouble.”
Leia’s determined gaze made Carl fidget, and he quickly raised his hand.
“What… What should we do? If you have insight, I would like to beg you to share it.”
Glenn winked at Adrian.
Adrian nodded.
“First of all, Leia Lindbergh, you already possess the qualities of a king, but the problem is that you lack experience, isn’t that so?”
At Glenn’s words, Leia nodded.
“If that quality is the love for the country and the people, then that is correct.”
“That’s all that matters. To fill the gaps, I plan to send specialists from various fields to accompany you. Learn well, and listen well. If you feel it doesn’t fit the current situation in Lindbergh, feel free to discuss it with me.”
At Glenn’s unexpected kindness, Leia expressed her gratitude by bowing her head.
“While you are taking care of internal affairs, Carl Lindbergh, you will continue to study magic formulas. Belfry will be of help in this regard. He may not have magic, but he is knowledgeable.”
Belfry was startled, and Adrian frowned slightly.
He had been strangely worried about Belfry, and now his father was deliberately placing Belfry with Carl.
However, his discontent was silenced by Glenn’s gaze.
“Crown Prince Adrian Heineken, go and deal with the external enemies.”
“Uh? That’s inconvenient.”
It wasn’t Adrian who objected, but Carl Lindbergh.
Carl, who had spoken without realizing it, closed his mouth, but the situation had already unfolded, and Glenn, Leia, and Adrian were staring intently at Carl.
“What’s inconvenient?”
“I, uh, that… sending the Crown Prince of the Empire into battle directly is…”
The instruction to deal with the external enemies ultimately meant to go out and fight if war broke out.
Carl thought it was absurd.
To use the Crown Prince of the Empire as a sword for a principality?
“Don’t underestimate the Crown Prince, Carl Lindbergh. He is one of the most skilled magicians and swordsmen in the Empire.”
Glenn said sternly to Carl, who was mumbling and biting his lip.
“But, what if, what if Adrian gets hurt?”
“Why? Are you worried that he might disgrace the Empire? If that’s the concern, don’t worry. Even if the Crown Prince is hurt, it won’t disgrace Lindbergh.”
Glenn asked with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Belfry thought there was a flaw in the Emperor’s words. If the Crown Prince was injured, it would disgrace Heineken, not Lindbergh. The Crown Prince would be branded a loser, and this would be a disgrace to the royal family that had sent him to Lindbergh.
Why did he say such a thing?
Adrian looked at Carl.
He didn’t mind. In fact, he was grateful to his father for giving him this opportunity.
No matter what Parman was plotting, if it harmed Lindbergh, it would not be good for Carl either, and Adrian wanted to step up directly for that reason.
To eliminate all the things that bothered Carl, so that by the time they were married, there would be nothing between him and Adrian.
When Leia Lindbergh was safely crowned and Lindbergh was finally stable as a principality, Carl Lindbergh would focus solely on Adrian.
But Carl didn’t seem to want that.
