The Survival of an Inferior

39. Invasion(4)

"I see them," Lena says as she stares at the horizon. A large magic circle envelopes her eyes.

Her magic and speed both viciously spiked due to the grimoire.

-------------------

I don't trust her with the book but I don't have a choice.

I see nothing but lands after lands of snow.

Sharpshooters and mages line up on the wall. The ground units firmly stand rooted around the broken wall.

"How many are mages?"

"400? I can see lots of demon mages but the majority are warriors." Lena says and waves her hand over my face.

My vision extends to the horizon and I get a bird's-eye view of the location. Many humanoid creatures with two horns and scales pasted to their bodies flood the mountains. They have yellow iris surrounded by black sclera with an oval pupil. One-third of the forces are mages, and at least 50 demons are carrying supplies on a wooden cart. The rest wields a sword or spear.

There are 10 demons with wings, including the commander. Demons are not born with wings strong enough to fly, they must kill and train to soar in the sky.

They are planning to occupy Chael.

"Lena, what is the farthest range for your spell casting," I ask.

She points at a cliff three mountains away.

"When I give you a signal, cast any explosive magic at the tip of the farthest mountain."

The demon army splits and slithers through the mountain. Rena has gone ahead and hidden within the enemy's territory.

"They are coming..." a marksman beside me mumbles.

The frontline shows itself among the white terrain with weapons. Lena throws a glance at me. "Young Master?"

"Not yet."

I gulp and grip my musket anxiously.

A large magic circle appears in the sky above the mountains. The demon mages seem to be up to something.

"NOW!"

Lena swings her arms aside and several magic circles materialize in front.

*BOOOOOM!!*

Explosions erupt within the tip of mountains, sending a collateral accumulation of snow and nature rolling down. Massive avalanches rapidly slide down the steep mountains. The demons noticed it but couldn't counter it due to the mages already casting magic. The mages had to resort to cancelling the cast and erecting a barrier to protect themselves.

However, the futile attempt is useless against ruthless nature and the majority of mages perished in the downfall.

*BOOOM!*

"ARGH!!"

Bodies of demons fly from the impact. Many are buried under tons of nature. Large clouds of dust and vapour ascend, obstructing the view.

!

"Was this part of the plan?" someone says.

"I don't know?"

I expected our plan to be leaked. Thus, I kept parts of the plan to myself to catch our enemies off guard.

In the end, the demons are forced to advance without their mages. A Sea of demons pours out of the smog and they are accompanied by a hell of arrows raining from above.

Lena quickly erects a sky barrier to deflect every ranged attack.

Most of them can now be seen.

"FIRE!" I shout and bring up my musket.

The few mages and sharpshooters start to launch puny resistance.

When the demons step into the open, they feel an awkward resistance within the snow beneath them. Pulling their legs out, they realise they stepped into a layer of slimy mucus.

Some demons sneered at the childish attempts to slow them down. It did help in slowing them slightly but that was not the real intention.

I kept the information a secret but the real purpose is poison.

It can seep through the armour's gap and the scales of a demon. The skin then absorbs the liquid into the body. All of this can barely be noticed if one doesn't pay attention.

At first, the demons avoided the kill zone and went for the walls. However, once they are near, they realise climbing the wall proved to be extremely difficult; almost no friction can be exerted. They then attempt to destroy the walls using sheer strength.

*BAM!*

"Huh..." a demon mumbles.

Their strength greatly diminished. The body of a demon is strong mainly because of its demonic energy. Slimes in this world are known mainly for their acidic characteristics, their body absorbs everything, especially those with high energy and replicates themselves into something stronger. The mass of acidic slime is then controlled by a nucleus core.

Take the core away but continuously feed the slimes. You will get an extremely acidic slime that will melt humans easily.

For demons, it's not as easy but their skin will suck up the slime and the slime starts to absorb the demonic energy within. Albeit for a short while of 1 minute, it can temporarily disrupt the flow of energy and weaken the demons.

I will have to thank Kasfo for this, he has a humongous pet slime.

"Shoot the ground!" I shout when several demons barrage the wall.

Everyone replicates my command and place rocks into the muzzle. Afterwards, they swiftly aim down and shoot. The splattered rocks collide with the ice below and break it.

!?

The demons fall into the mysterious liquid and try to swim up but fail. In the end, they drown or die in the cold.

Tough luck, those are extremely viscous and minuscule-density water made from grinding the Reqiuem Wood and dissolving them in cold water along with a few other ingredients.

Without magic, it would be impossible to build this within a few days.

I bring the musket to my face and shoot a demon in his head. The air bullet bounces off his face but bashes him back. I shoot another one and it knocks the demon out. Lena then finishes them off.

She extends her hands and forms several javelins of ice in the sky, shooting them viciously at whatever unsuspecting demons.

However, I notice that the number of demons has slightly decreased.

I look around.

Are they trying to execute a diversion?

Unfortunately for them...

*BOOOM!*

From the east!

"Lena!" I say and take out a vial of blue liquid.

Lena nods and gulps the vial, replenishing her mana and sending a giant barrage of attacks towards the east. I've predicted their movements and thus left explosive traps around the parameters to prevent a diversion ambush.
