Chapter 11 - Explain in Vain
Chapter 11 Explain in Vain
Mu Li smiled at Mrs. Lin. “Auntie, you decide. My parents are ready to meet you at any time.”
Mu Li said it with great sincerity.
Mrs. Lin seemed to be contented with his attitude and started to look at him with appreciation—he was handsome, tall, responsible, and well-spoken. The decoration of his house also suggested good taste.
Mrs. Lin thought her daughter was a silly girl before. But at least this time, Lin Qing was smart.
Actually, Lin Qing was quite depressed at the moment.
She looked at her mother and felt weird.
Shen then looked at Mu Li and felt even weirder—why didn’t he explain?
“Hey, why don’t you…”
Lin Qing was about to ask Mu Li something, but was interrupted by Mu Li who suddenly grasped her hand.
His hand was warm and powerful. Lin Qing looked at him in surprise, forgetting what to say.
Mu Li was pleased by Lin Qing’s reaction and therefore held her hand tightly. “Go back to the room. I have something to say to you.”
His tone and eyesight at the moment could even be described as gentleness, which made Lin Qing go dumb for a while, even neglecting his ambiguous words.
This made Mu Li even more amiable. “Let’s go.”
Lin Qing was thus led by Mu Li back to her room.
Outside, in the living room, Mrs. Lin and Chen Qudong had different expressions.
“Auntie,” Chen Qudong said with apparent disapproval, “How can you just let Lin Qing…”
Mrs. Lin knew what Chen Qudong wanted to say, and therefore interrupted him with a smile, “I think Mu Li is a nice person.”
“Auntie,” Chen Qudong felt a little bit frustrated. “You know nothing about him. He is…”
“As long as he loves Lin Qing and protects her forever,” said Mrs. Lin, “as long as he has not committed a crime, it’s fine. I care nothing about who he is. If he has no money, Lin Qing’s father and I are able to give them a carefree life.”
Chen Qudong shut his mouth. He had already married Liang Ruoyi and had no ground to care too much of Lin Qing.
Meanwhile, in the guest bedroom.
Lin Qing came to herself and broke his grip after entering the room. “Why didn’t you explain to my mother? She misunderstood us.”
Mu Li took Lin Qing to the mirror. “Look at yourself.”
Lin Qing looked at herself in the mirror and was deeply shocked by what she saw. She looked terrible… and what was that red mark on her neck?
“You must be allergic to alcohol,” explained Mu Li, noticing Lin Qing’s confusion.
Lin Qing thought for a while and made a decision. “I will explain to her. I’m just allergic to alcohol. But…”
“Your mother won’t believe it.” Mu Li interrupted her because he didn’t want to hear her remaining words.
“How do you know that?” Lin Qing looked startled, but still maintained a calm tone.
“You don’t think so?” Mu Li raised his eyebrows. “Then go ahead.”
Lin Qing thought for quite a while and finally came to the point—just now Mu Li’s performance had already implied to her mother there must be something between them. Therefore, he was sure that her mother wouldn’t accept her explanation.
Thinking of that, Lin Qing couldn’t stay calm anymore but felt anxious. “What should I do?”
Mu Li regarded her expression as a signal for help—she looked fearful and lost in mind. Her eyes made him believe he was the only resort that could save her.
He felt good to be the one whom she could count on.
“Think about it,” Mu Li coaxed her, “Your mother has misunderstood us. What will happen to you if you disobey her?”
Lin Qing knew her mother very well. She was ultimately conservative, holding fast to the idea that a woman could only marry one man throughout her life. That was why she immediately asked to meet Mu Li’s parents as soon as she took their relationship the wrong way.
Lin Qing was sure that if she acted against her mother’s will, she would be severely punished.
However, she got to know Mu Li only yesterday and actually nothing happened between them.
Lin Qing was totally at a loss and cast her eyes at Mu Li helplessly.
Mu Li looked indifferent this time. He curled his lips and took a step back. “If you hadn’t come back with me, nothing would have happened. You have to figure it out yourself.”
