The Overlord, The Automata, and The Silver

Chapter 9: Change of plot, part two (69)

Enri didn’t know what to think. Truly, she hadn’t any words that could describe the utter bafflement and exasperation that she had in that moment. If every neuron in her brain was firing all at once, there would not be enough of them to think out these feelings that she had tumbling around in her skull.

The plans that Lady Aeskell had laid out and the revelations had been staggering. It was truly awe-inspiring what she wished to bring out into the world. It was like listening to a poet and a general wrapped in one, describing the battle plans and what she wished to do after the battle had been won.

Though, that wasn’t the confusing part. The confusing part was the fact that she had brought this up out of the blue. It was baffling because Enri had just become village chief this morning. It had become rather exasperating that all of this had been put onto her shoulders.

With those feeling wrapping up in her mind, she led lady Aeskell and the two maids outside of the building. Nfirea was there as well, but she felt she didn’t really need to lead them out.

The meeting with lady Aeskell was over, yet she was still here. She was also pregnant, and Enri didn’t know what to think about that. It made her think about her own future. Who would she marry? What type of person would she birth into the world and raise? The questions today kept on piling up. They were also strange questions.

They were just walking out of the meeting hall that they had built only about a week ago, when a goblin scout came into the village. It was a goblin scout, and he seemed rather distraught about something.

As he neared, he spotted Lady Aeskell and rode his wolf to a stop and bowed his head to her, he then looked up and to Enri herself. He then opened his mouth and spoke in a rather distressed manner. What he said sent a shiver up her spine and a curious smirk on Lupisregina’s face.

“There’s been some rather distressing going’s On’s in the woods, Lady Enri,” the goblin scout said, “ogres, trolls, and goblins have been moving all about the place. They seem to be rearing to attack a wooden fortress in the woods that looks to be patrolled and controlled by the undead.”

Lady Aeskell raised a rather perturbed eyebrow at his words and turned to Lupisregina Beta. The tall and tan woman squirmed under the gaze and looked down sheepishly. Enri looked at the interaction with surprise. She had never seen Lupisregina like this.

“Lupis, why didn’t you tell us in your reports that there was an enemy force getting ready to attack Nazarick property?” she asked like a mother that was peeved at their child for breaking some form of pottery.

Lupisregina beta looked even sadder at that. She wined like a struck dog and mumbled something under her breath. Lady Aeskell looked at her, then put a hand to her ear and asked her to speak once more. Lupisregina seemed to remember herself then and there and she straightened up and spoke in a rather clear voice.

“I didn’t think that it was that important,” she finally said.

Enri couldn’t believe her ears. She actually couldn’t believe her ears right now. Her friend, Lupisregina beta, didn’t believe that her safety and the safety of her and her village was important. A tear came down Enri’s cheek. She had thought that they were friends.

Lady Aeskell spotted this and scowled. She then turned to Lupisregina once more, Lupis’s sister did so as well. Then, Lady Aeskell began to lay into her with a slight gentleness, but overall crass demeanor.

“Lupis, did you not just hear why this place is important? Did you not just hear what Ainz, and I have planned for this place?” she asked and Lupisregina shriveled, “did you not just hear the invitation I have extended to them?” she continued her abuse.

Even though the young woman known as Enri Emmot was saddened by what Lupisregina had said, she couldn’t watch her be laid into like this. She put up her hands and spoke, interrupting the lecture. In truth, she was panicking slightly.

“Lady Aeskell, I don’t think you should blame her for this. After all, didn’t you tell her guard the village, and not the forest of Tob?” she asked, hoping to pull her off of Lupisregina.

Lady Aeskell seemed to think about it for a bit, then she frowned to herself and put her head in her hand. She sighed the biggest self-deprecating sigh she had ever had the pleasure of hearing and turned to Lupisregina once more.

“I am sorry Lupisregina Beta, the fault lies with me. I failed to tell you the importance of this village to our plans beforehand, and I failed to teach you the importance of information sharing,” she said and bowed her head ever so slightly.

Enri, Lupisregina, and Yuri were completely and utterly surprised by her words. Yuri, and Lupisregina seemed even more surprised and slightly sorrowful at her words and actions. Enri was astonished at the words they started spouting.

“My lady! The fault lies with me! Please don’t lower your supreme head to one so lowly such as me!” Lupisregina started to say.

“My lady, Lupisregina is right. The fault lies with her as she said. I beg you to raise your head my lady!” Yuri Alpha spoke with a deep-seated fervor.

Lady Aeskell raised her head and smiled at their declaration. A deeply etched, motherly smile appeared on her face again and this time it wasn’t tainted by any other emotion other than love. After all, from Aeskell’s perspective, these two people were children of her lover’s good friends.

“Lupis?” she asked finally after a couple of seconds of silence.

“Yes, My Lady?” she asked back with nervousness.

“You can make it up to Enri later after we settle this little dispute in the forest,” she said and then turned to Enri, “you can take as much time on the offer I made to you. Perhaps you can do something before you make you decision?”

“Yeah Enri,” Nfirea said while putting a hand on her shoulder.

He hadn’t been there for the whole reprimand Lecter, as he had been run off and went to talk to his grandma about the dinner invite.

“In fact, it’s about harvest time for some medicinal herbs this time of spring. Maybe you can come with and help me pick them?” he offered.

Enri turned to him and nodded her head at him, then turned back to lady Aeskell. She spoke with conviction and a little bit of nervousness.

“I’ll definitely think about it. If you need me, Lady Aeskell, I’ll be in the woods with Nfirea,” she said, and Aeskell nodded her head.
