The Overlord, The Automata, and The Silver

Chapter 3: Battle of Canre village, part six (14)

As Gazef rode out with his men, he thought back to the conversation he had had with that Ainz fellow. He was a rather strange character. He stood with a great air of confidence. Like he had nothing to fear from those scripture members.

After he had made his declaration of the villagers’ protection, Miss Walker advised Gazef to leave the village so that conflict and more bloodshed didn’t befall the village. That idea made sense and Gazef was going to do that anyway, it was just that she had told him to do so anyway.

He had told her as much and she had also given him something of value to remember this day. It was a simple golden band, said golden band was apparently a ring of regeneration that would let him heal rather quickly passively.

He had no idea how it worked, and he didn’t want to try it out. But she had said he would probably need its power sooner rather than later. He had to agree, fighting what was probably his most dangerous battle yet would most definitely need some good luck and aid.

He road out to meet his foes on horseback. As they neared, he noticed they looked a lot like the sunlight scripture as they had been described to him once or twice during a meeting about foreign affairs.

As he neared the group of magic casters, he chanted out a battle cry to boost his men’s morale. It was a simple thing, but it would hopefully give his men hope about the battle they were just about to face.

“Let’s spill these gods lovers’ guts!” he shouted out and his men roared in cheers as they charged forth on their mounts.

Now, the author doesn’t quite remember how this song and dance goes so here it goes. Their horses reared with fervor as they zoomed across the battlefield to their foes. In response, the opponents cast a spill that dislodged Gazef with his horse, his horse toppled over and started to foam from the mouth, but he stood up. The ring that Miss Walker had given him gleamed and healed him from the fall rather quickly, it was like he had taken no damage at all.

His men had seen their leader fall of his mount, but they couldn’t stop in time to check if he was alight. As they themselves made their way to their opponents they rushed right past. The sunlight scripture looked at them as they passed from them, confused.

He looked away from them to his foes, the men on the other side stared right at him. He looked around them, at their getup, at their summons. They were just as they had seen earlier, what Miss walker and Ainz had described as archangel flames. He had seen them on the battlefield a couple of times before, but not in this number.

He then met the eyes of the apparent leader, and he couldn’t help but laugh. Miss Wlaker had been dead right; he did have the biggest shit eating grin on his face that he had ever seen.

“Ah Gazef Stronoff, we meet at last. It is a shame we have to meet under such circumstances. Any last words before we put you down like a good dog?” asked the commander.

Gazef began to laugh. It started as a low chuckle, but ascended into a rather loud, manic laugh. The commander of the scripture looked on in confusion. He had not expected him to react like this.

“I am the chief warrior of the Re-Estize kingdom! And I shall have the name of the man in front of me!” he shouted out after his laughter had died down.

The man on the other side complied, a bit of superficial intimidation rising in his mind.

“I am Nigun Grid Luin, commander of the sunlight scripture. Now, what shall you do?” he asked in return, the chief warrior just smiled in response, and Nigun smiled back. “When we kill you, we’ll kill everyone in that little village too. Then we’ll…”

He was interrupted by the chief warrior, “when the man in the mask comes for you after, don’t come crying to me in the afterlife!”

“Intriguing… no matter, men, send the angels in,” he told his men.

The summoners of such creature pulled their raised arms down and the angels rushed forth. The battle had picked up. There was a dozen of them and more, this would be a hard-fought battle that Gazef wasn’t so sure he would walk away from.

Two of the winged summonses were in front of him and he tried to cut them down, but his sword stopped halfway. He activated a martial art and cut through them all the way. As he prepped himself to take another one out, he heard his men come around, their horses’ pounding hooves hitting the ground telling him of their approach.

He looked to his right as they came around. He smiled, he had told them not to stay as most of them had families back home, but it seemed like they had delayed that order.

They cried out in force as they hit the wall of angels, the battle soon picked up a notch. Gazef killed the angels right and left, his body healing every time a blow was landed on him. The same could not be said for his men.

About half of them lay wounded on the ground. The other half had one of their feet in the grave right now as he looked upon them. It was clear they he and his men would lose this fight. But that was when he heard a voice in his head.

          “Time to switch.”

Ainz looked around at the men in front of him. They all seemed rather weak. He was amazed that they were called a special forces unit in this world. Sure, some of them were over level thirty; but most of them were under level twenty-five.

It was just as she had said, they were weak. He looked over to her beside him. She stood tall with her back straight, her eyes locked onto the man in front. She seemed to be looking him over like he was important somehow.

Well, he was important to them. He had info. Ainz looked at Albedo and tried to figure out what she thought of the situation. It seemed like she hated humans with a burning passion, and he had to say that he really didn’t care about them at all either.

He then turned back to the shocked and utterly bamboozled commander of this sorry excuse for a military unit. The man had short, blonde hair. He also had a scar running across his face. He had heard his name when he was looking at Gazef’s battle with them but now he couldn’t remember it at all.

          ‘Let’s get into acting mode… haha… ha…’

“My name is Ainz Ooal Gown. Now, what did you say about killing all those villagers?”
