The Married Life Of Immortals

Chapter 9: Not So Blessed

Bane lay on the ground, but refused to get up. Even though his body was fully healed, he felt like his mind had been damaged. Never in his life had he been treated so roughly. Holding his hand up to his face, it trembled as he remembered that it had been a severed stump squirting blood only a few moments ago.

“Is this really your limit?” Lysia's condescending voice asked from above him.

Bane just rolled away and curled into a ball. He had already learned his lesson more than once for trying to lash out at this little witch. That was the reason why his hands were shaking so bad now. It was just better for him to remain silent until this hell was over.

“I think that you have bullied him enough,” an old and familiar voice instructed, and Bane felt Lysia move away from him.

“Grandpa, this one is one of the Heaven’s Blessed. I don’t think I am bullying him at all. This is much less than he deserves considering the war we just finished,” Lysia said with a bright smile that made even Bilgarth feel uneasy.

“I know that you hate them, but don’t you find it strange that he is the only one that arrived? I already knew that he was a Heaven’s Blessed, but he is much different than the ones we lived beside and fought with before,” Bilgarth explained, making Bane finally roll over and sit up.

“You lived beside them? I thought you had a war with them, right?” Bane asked, and Bilgarth nodded.

“Things ended up as a war, but that wasn’t the way things started. When the blessed arrived, most of them got along with everyone, and worked to help the kingdom. Then they started to realize that they could do anything in our worlds, and started to do crime, and even take over some small towns.”

“Bilgarth paused for a moment and then continued. “Everything fell apart as soon as the Heaven’s Blessed started to understand that you could affect our world.”

Bane frowned at this, and then spoke up. “What do you mean that they figured out that they could affect the world?”

Bilgarth paused for a moment, deep in thought. "At first, the Heaven's Blessed acted like visitors, exploring our world without fully realizing their potential. But once they discovered that their actions had real, lasting consequences here, some of them began to exploit their abilities. They realized they could manipulate our reality—change the landscape, alter the balance of power, even warp time itself."

Bane tried to wrap his head around this. It sounded like a player discovering cheat codes in a game, but with devastating real-world effects. "So they started to take over?"

"Exactly," Bilgarth confirmed. "Their immortality made them reckless. They took risks, knowing they could simply revive if killed. It created chaos and led to the conflicts that nearly destroyed our world."

Lysia, who had been listening with a scowl, interjected, "And now, you're here, another Heaven's Blessed, claiming to help us. How do we know you're different?"

Bane took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "I don't have any powers like those people. I'm just trying to survive and figure things out. If I can help, I will, but I'm not here to cause trouble."

Lysia's eyes narrowed, “They all came as nobodies. Then, after a short time, they all developed abilities, and powers at an alarming pace,” She declared. “Why should we think you are any different?”

“I don’t know,” Bane shrugged, but then looked down at his small hand in frustration.. “I don’t have any abilities, or menus I can access to help me progress in this world. I wish I didn’t but coming to this world and dying in the last must have made me just like you guys,” he said, squeezing his hand into a fist. This world was starting to frustrate Bane.

“What do you mean? What is your class?” Lysia suddenly asked, making Bane look up with a frown.

“Class? What are you talking about?” Bane asked, not really sure what the little girl was talking about.

Lysia narrowed her eyes. “I am a priest, and Ezio is an assassin. Unless you are really only five years old, which I highly doubt, you should have a class that was given to you.”

At this moment, Eve decided to speak up in Bane’s head. ‘Even the people of this world will have a system menu. To prove that you do not have the same thing, just ask them to try and invite you into their party. The system menu has an option to request help from people within ten feet of you. Because you do not have this system, there will be no option to request your help. They also should be able to check their map function to see that you don’t show up.’

Bane relayed this info, but then growled inwardly. ‘Are you serious?! Even these people get super powers, and I don’t?! How am I supposed to get stronger if I don't have one of these class things?!’ Bane lamented, but then was pulled from his thoughts as a glowing wand was shoved in his face.

“Just what are you?!” Lysia demanded as Bilgarth tried to get between them.

Bane was confused now. “Why are you getting even more mad now?”
