The Law of the Silent Gentleman

Chapter 32

Chapter 32 – New Action

Enzo reined in the horse’s reins, turned over and dismounted. Giuliano rushed out of the house with a brisk pace. He no longer hesitated like he did on Mount Chevignon, but hugged Enzo tightly, wrapping his arms around his waist. The assassin was taken aback, and quickly reacted, gently wrapping his arms around Giuliano’s shoulders. No one spoke. After a while, Giuliano let go of his hand and raised his head from Enzo’s arms. His eyes were red, but there were no tears.

The Assassin looked around and noticed the horse that had been prepared by the servant: “What’s the matter with that horse? Are you going out?”

Giuliano bit his lip. Enzo blinked and asked again, before his apprentice reluctantly replied: “I’m going back to Vanessa.”

“That’s death at all.” Enzo frowned.

Giuliano pushed Enzo away fiercely: “What can I do? I have to take revenge, and you refuse to help me! Then I can only bite the bullet! I…” His voice trembled, “I thought you would never won’t be coming back…”

“You think too much.”

“Why do you make me not think so? Where did you go! You disappeared for so many days in a row, do you know how anxious I am!”

“Let’s go into the house and talk.” Enzo grabbed the boy’s arm and pulled him closer to the house, not forgetting to order the servant to unload the horse. They came to the study, and as soon as they entered the door, Enzo paused, surprised by the changes in the bookshelves. He had taken many books before, and there were gaps all over the bookshelf, but now they are all filled, and all the books that were taken away have returned to their places. Enzo glanced at Giuliano, and the young apprentice blushed: “I’m going to leave, so I’ll clean up by the way…”

The assassin closed the door, walked to the window, looked outside, and drew the curtains after making sure no one was watching. The room darkened instantly. Enzo lit the alchemy wall lamp and leaned on the desk: “I went to Ponto City.”

Giuliano’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“I agreed to that commission.”

“Why, why? Aren’t you unwilling?”

“After thinking about it, I feel that such a coincidence is impossible in the world.” Enzo said, “This kind of ‘coincidence’ must have some meaning in front of me. The gods may not have the purpose of letting me meet it. Let me say no.”

He touched the holy emblem on his chest: “After leaving Ambrand Manor, I went all the way north to a deserted wilderness, where I knelt down and prayed to the gods, hoping that they would show me a clear path.”

“And then?” Giuliano asked eagerly, “What did they tell you?”

“Nothing.”

“what?”

“The gods didn’t tell me anything. I didn’t get any answers to my prayers. They have let me go, let me choose, and then bear the consequences of the choice.”

“So you choose to accept the entrustment?”

“Hmm. Maybe there will be an unexpected turn in this matter, which is not what I expected.” He paused, and turned his gaze to his apprentice, “Since I have accepted the commission, Boniwell must Die. But not now, not immediately. There are other important things that must be done before killing him.”

Giuliano couldn’t wait to let go and do a big job, and when he heard Enzo say “not now”, he couldn’t help feeling discouraged: “What else is there to do?”

“Boniwell is the leader of a city-state. According to the client, his ambition is not just to be the leader of a city-state. He is not so easy to kill. We must find out his weakness.”

Giuliano thought that his father, Vito, was Boniwell’s clerk, probably knew something, and if his father was alive… no, maybe it was because his father knew something that he would kill him.

“You tell the situation on the day your family was wiped out, and don’t miss any details.”

This is tantamount to tearing open a wound that has just healed. The blood on Giuliano’s face faded immediately, his hands clenched into fists involuntarily, and his knuckles turned white. Enzo took his hand, separated his fingers, and placed the holy emblem on his palm. The metal, which had always been cold, was now infected with warm body temperature.

“It’s okay, it’s all over.” The assassin said softly, “You just need to be like a bystander and tell everything that happened that day.”

like a bystander? Easier said than done. Trembling, Giuliano began to recount his experiences, from the arrival of his cousin Fernando to his escape in the sewers. At the beginning, the gloomy and heavy mood seemed to overwhelm him. Several times he felt that he could not continue, but later on, he found himself more and more relaxed, as if he had observed everything through a pair of eyes. Can fluently describe what he has seen and heard like a person who stays out of it. The holy emblem on his palm seemed to be integrated with him. When he was talking, he didn’t feel the existence of the holy emblem at all. It wasn’t until the whole thing was finished that he realized that with a light palm, Enzo had taken the holy emblem.

“I roughly understand.” The assassin pondered, “Vanessa, a noble family with a long history, was brutally wiped out overnight… Even if it is a family vendetta, such a vigorous and vigorous posture is rare. And your cousin Fernando obviously has the same relationship with Bonniway I joined forces with you. Fernando is a wedge, penetrated into your family, and easily disintegrated its defenses.”

“That perfidious dog!” At the mention of this cousin, Giuliano’s eyes turned red with anger. “I’ll deal with Boniwell as soon as he dies. He won’t be free for long!”

“No. Don’t do that.”

“What?” Giuliano exclaimed, “You told me not to kill Fernando?”

“I mean, you can’t kill Boniwell first, and then kill Fernando. Your cousin is Boniwell’s subordinate or ally, but he is just a nobleman after all, not a governor of a city. From him Finding a breakthrough point is much easier than dealing directly with Boniwell. Now we have to turn Fernando into a wedge and drive into Boniwell.”

“You mean… deal with Fernando first?”

“Exactly. And I’ve figured out where to start.”

“Then we have to go to Xanodia first,” Giuliano said. “Fernando lives in Xanodia, and I visited his house once.”

Zanodia is another city-state in the Yod region. Each city-state in Yod has its own merits: Vanessa is prosperous in commerce, Akdon is prosperous in learning, Dorothenia is the capital of music and art, and Zanodia is famous for its powerful navy. Its naval fleet often served other city-states as mercenaries in exchange for wealth. The family of Fernando Infonçon occupies a place in the Senate of Xanodia, and there have been many governors in the past, so it is a veritable famous family. If not, Giuliano’s parents would not have asked him to discuss major issues. However, Fernando broke his promise, and the Vito couple never thought that he would lead wolves into the house.

“Then let’s go to Xanodia first.” Enzo agreed.

Then, he changed the topic: “Have you ever thought about what you will do after completing your revenge?”

“Of course.” Giuliano has long thought about this issue, “I will clear the grievances of my family and revive the Sacon family. You may be unhappy when I say this, but I still have to say: I can’t be a Assassin. Being an assassin is just a means to my revenge, not an end.”

“The Reticent is not what you want to be, or you can leave.”

“I can’t live forever behind a mask!”

“A person lives behind a mask all his life, and only when he dies will he usher in the only reality. You have already embarked on this path, and fate will push you forward until you can no longer turn back.”

“Maybe one day the gods will let me go and let me choose, just like they let you go.”

“…It would be nice if that day really happened.” Enzo sighed, “Come here.”

“What are you doing?”

“I’ll give you something.”

The young apprentice approached the assassin warily. Enzo told him to turn around, not move, and close his eyes. Giuliano mutters “what the hell…” but does it anyway. He felt Enzo lift his hair, fiddle with his collar, and then his neck felt cold—Enzo put something cold on his neck.

“Okay,” said the assassin, “open your eyes.”

Giuliano opened his eyes, looked down at his chest, and gasped—a silver chain dangled from his chest with an emerald at the end. The gemstones are inlaid in exquisite silver holders, and the countless surfaces are polished extremely smooth, even if the room is dimly lit, it still reflects the bright light.

“This… this is…”

“Soldiers in Ponto once seized it and presented it to the governor. When I went to find the client, I ‘begged’ from the steward for it.”

“I… this… can I really accept it?”

“It was supposed to be yours.”

Giuliano touched the gemstone, admiring its beautiful color and exquisite workmanship. Enzo lifted his chin and looked around: “I really think well, it suits your eyes very well.”

Giuliano blushed. “You… don’t think that a piece of jewelry can impress me. I’m not a bumpkin who has never seen the world. My mother has plenty of jewelry like this…”

“But those are not yours. You won this necklace with your strength. I am very satisfied with your performance at Cheverignon.”

“I didn’t do anything at all…”

“I’m very satisfied.” Enzo repeated, then wrapped his arms around Giuliano’s waist and pushed him down on the table. Giuliano twisted his body to avoid him.

“Send jewelry first and then **** me, what do you think I am?!”

“You do not want?”

Giuliano stared at him angrily, noncommittal.

The temperature in the dark study room rose sharply, messy panting and fiery breath filled every corner of the room. Outside the window, the old butler directed the gardener to take care of the autumn garden. A servant came over and asked: “Do you still need to prepare the horse? The master is like this for a while, and we don’t know what to do.”

The old butler raised his head and thought for a while: “I probably don’t need it today.”
