The Last Rising Sun

Chapter 14: Chapter 13.5: A Day in the Life of Toru

-Minutes after Yamato's examination-

Walking through the streets of Konoha with his hands in his pockets, Toru sighed.

(Looks like I'm now officially a ninja) Closing his eyes, Toru remembered the exam he had a few minutes ago, it had been somewhat complicated because of Ino, but finally everyone was able to pass.

Even if he was able to decipher Yamato's plan, Toru didn't wait for his sensei's words at all.

(Not abandoning a comrade, huh...).

Toru paused for a moment and looked up at the sky, the weight of Yamato's words had resonated in his mind, something that made his thinking change just a little.

"Oh, but if it isn't little Toru."

An elderly man spoke as he waved his hand slightly, he was missing a bit of hair on the top of his head, he had the odd scar on his face and had a pile of wooden boxes next to him.

"Mr. Shou... good morning."

Toru bowed slightly bowing, at this the man could only smile.

"How have you been little one, you seem to be wearing something interesting strapped to your arm" Shou said as he looked at the metal plate with the blade symbol strapped to Toru's left arm.

"Um... this, you should know."

Toru looked at Shou with a poker face, to which the man, amused by Toru's words said:

"Hahaha, you're right, I must be getting too old" With a loud laugh, Shou replied, you could clearly see the passing of the years in Shou's appearance. After all he was also a ninja of Konohagakure, but now, due to the passage of time he had become a peaceful baker.

"Well, let's put that topic aside. I have these boxes of fruit I ordered, I should carry them myself, but you know I'm too old and my back can't take it anymore, how about you help me?" Shou spoke with a slight smile on his face "Obviously you won't work for free, I'll give you something when you're done."

After hearing the old man's proposal, Toru nodded his head.

"Fine, I'll carry these boxes from here, you can help me with the ones over there" Shou said while carrying some small boxes in his hands.

"I understand, I should leave them where I always do, right?" Lifting the heavier boxes in his hands, Toru spoke.

"Yeah, make sure you don't hurt yourself" Shou said as he walked away from the place with the boxes in his hands.

After that, Toru carried the boxes, which although somewhat heavy was no problem for Toru's strength.

(I'm done here) Toru sighed as he put the boxes on the ground. Carrying them had not been so difficult.

"Thank you, Toru. Wait for me outside, I'll go get your pay" Shou said as he went to the kitchen of his bakery.

While that was happening, Toru was heading for the exit, it didn't take him long to get there. Now he had been staring at a bird, which for some reason was staring at him.

"Here you go, young man" Shou appeared, causing the bird to flee the place. He had a paper bag in his hand, which was Toru's payment for helping him.

"Thank you, Mr. Shou" Toru reached out his hand and accepted, when he opened the paper bag he could see various kinds of bread, among them was the one he used to eat the most, the bread with fruit filling.

"You don't have to thank me, you helped me, so that's the least I can do."

"I understand, in any case, I should go now, I have to do something" Toru said as he said goodbye to Shou.

"Have a good day, young man"

-Somewhere in Konohagakure-

Toru's heavy breathing was heard in the place, and the sound of something being dragged was present. It was a gigantic rock, which had some ropes tied around it, these ropes served for Toru to move the rock.

It was already noon, so at this time Toru was training his body.

(Tomorrow I will have my first mission, I may have to do some physical work, but I'm not sure yet).

Toru let go of the ropes dropping them to the ground, he had been dragging that rock for thirty minutes, something that made his energy decrease drastically. Even though his breathing was heavy, he continued to drag the rock.

Thirty more minutes passed, and Toru had fallen to his knees from exhaustion. Sweat was trickling down his forehead and dehydration caused his energy to decrease even more.

(Now I have to train with my weapons).

Toru stood up and picked up a bottle of water that was near a tree, opened the lid and prepared to drink the water.

(Good, with this I can go on for another hour).

After hydrating, Toru quickly went back to training, this time there were different kinds of wooden dummies, which had various cut marks.

"Acceleration and movement, the trajectory will depend on the movement of my hands and the force used in it."

Toru watched one of the dummies carefully, seconds later, as if it was a bullet, a shuriken slammed into the dummy's face.

"One..."

Again, watching his target carefully, Toru took a deep breath before releasing the next shuriken.

This time the shuriken only managed to make a scratch on the doll's head, something that caused Toru to throw another one, this time the shuriken managed to hit the doll's chest.

(Two...)

Toru closed his eyes and took a deep breath, right now he was trying to feel his surroundings.

(Now...)

The light breeze touched Toru's body, he quickly opened his eyes and making small jumps and turns in the same place, twenty shuriken were thrown, these hit the dolls head perfectly.

Toru's way of moving was a little strange, after all that was the Taijutsu that he handles. With small steps, jumps and turns, as if it were a dance, the name Toru gave to this style of Taijutsu was 'Gyakusatsu dansu [Dance of slaughter]."

Although the name may sound somewhat aggressive, the truth is that this style of Taijutsu was designed by Toru to kill a large number of people in a few seconds.

(My aim improved...)

Toru appreciated the shuriken that were stuck on the dummies, compared to the Toru of four years ago, he had greatly improved his combat skills.

And now, looking at the dolls, Toru sighed as he took out two long daggers from a box. These daggers belonged to Kyoko, Toru's mother. In the past, although Toru himself does not know about it, Kyoko was a great assassin feared by many, and using the same daggers that Toru has right now, many people lost their lives.

Holding the daggers tightly, Toru adopted a fighting stance much like a boxer, only his arms were a little more raised and also the daggers in his hands pointed downward.

Toru took another deep breath, he was holding the daggers and looking straight ahead with a poker expression on his face.

*Wind sound*

The bright flash of the dagger illuminated for a seconds as Toru started to attack again and again.

The sound of the wind generated by the daggers took over the place, the speed at which he moved his arms was a lot.

The way Toru handled the daggers was strange, as he combined the fighting style of a boxer with that elegant dance.

*Sound of wind

Striking the air with the dagger five times in less than a second, Toru spun around while extending his arms and letting the edge of the daggers form a circle in the air.

*Wind sound*

Taking a great leap in the air, Toru spun around more than ten times while holding the daggers so that they protected him as he spun. As he fell, Toru positioned his hands on the right side of his torso and as he fell he hit the air hard, causing a slight current of wind.

Not even a second had passed since Toru landed, as he instantly leapt forward striking a blow with both daggers at the same time.

Fifteen more minutes passed, and now Toru was sitting on the ground, his breathing was heavy and sweat was pouring down his forehead. He had already spent all his energy, but still he got up once more, this time to practice his ninjutsu.

-Hours later-

Lying on the ground, completely exhausted from overtraining, Toru looked down at the ground.

(I ran out of chakra...)

Toru's chakra reserves had been depleted, his chakra had been depleted so much that at this moment Toru was unable to move.

He continued to lie on the ground until his stomach growled, his body was begging for food so he could recharge his chakra faster.

(What do I do... Should I go back home and prepare some food?) Toru asked himself, he was very good at cooking, so it would be no problem to prepare something to eat, but Toru was so tired that he didn't feel like spending more energy on cooking.

(Now that I remember...) Toru thought, he had received a paper bag filled with various kinds of bread.

(I should eat that...)

-Monument of the Hokage."

Above the head of the monument of the third Hokage, the shadow of a child could be seen.

For an instant the wind caused his hair to cover his face, but when that night breeze died down, the gray eyes glowed in the darkness.

(This place always had a good view...) Toru thought as he took a bite of the fruit loaf in his right hand.

The night breeze once again made Toru's hair move, and as that happened, he remembered a few things.

The reason why he was hiding his abilities and why he was trying not to draw attention to himself.

(Looks like those people have stopped spying on me already) Closing his eyes, Toru bit into the bread once more.

(It seems that now that I became a genin, those people have lost interest in me) Toru thought.

Until now, he had kept out of everything, since if he showed any hint of having the talent to be a ninja, a certain old man would try to make him his tool.

There were many people behind the secrets of the Asahi and Uchiha clan, this made Toru have to hide his physical and intellectual abilities.

(Pretending to be something I'm not is a bit annoying, but in the end it's necessary).

Biting the bread once again, Toru sighed, he had gone through many annoying situations because of the spies. Having belonged to one of the biggest clans in Konohagakure made it even worse.

But for some reason, after Toru passed the exam to become a genin, those spies stopped following him, as if they were now focusing on something much bigger.

(I still don't understand why they watched me for so long, but I guess now everything will be calmer for me).

Pulling another loaf of bread out of the bag, Toru stared at the place he once considered home.

(Everything that happened that day, the reason for everything, it's still hard for me to figure out. Itachi... I fail to understand the reason for your actions, but I suppose time will reveal the truth to me, and now that I'm a ninja, that time has become quite short.)

Toru rose from his place and for a few moments his eyes glowed before disappearing into the cold, dark night.
