Chapter 43 (Part 2) – Entangled with an Alraune
Kanae rolled off the alraune just as the entire bulb opened up and the petals unfurled. He and Edina spilled out of the flower on a tsunami of nectar, sliding into the feet of Arenade and Thedia, who were both staring down at him in disbelief.
"H-Hey, guys…" Kanae calmly greeted.
"Don't 'hey' us! Mind explaining what you were doing inside that alraune?" Arenade asked, pointing to the creature behind them.
The alraune was completely incapacitated, drawing shallow and rthymic breaths, and bright red tongue rolled out of her mouth; she was soundly defeated.
"We, uh… got caught," Kanae shamefully confessed.
"My, my," Thedia giggled, her glinting two-toned eyes fixed on his naked body. "You had said you were going on ahead, not finding time to fornicate."
"I-It's not what you think! Being naked… erm… empowers my spells… and the alraune… s-seduced me." He dressed quickly before embarrassing himself further in front of the hot cat girl maid.
Arenade used her newly gained Lesser Detox skill on them to remove the alcohol from their systems. Kanae felt a cold sensation run through his body and sobered up in an instant. The other, however, snapped awake with a start.
"What the fuck happened?!" Edina snapped awake and chose violence, summoning a horde of skeletons to do battle.
"You blacked out from alcoholic nectar," Kanae informed the drunkard.
They walked over to the alraune, whose only sign of life was the ebb and flow of her chest filling with air as she panted. Her cheeks were flushed red from the intense pleasure Kanae had dealt.
"What do you want to do with it? Kill it for experience?" Arenade asked.
"No, I'd feel bad! She looks so defenseless right now, too!" Kanae threw his arms out to keep them from trying anything.
"In case you forgot, that thing tried to kill us! I don't even know what this stuff on me is, but…" Edina sniffed and licked her own arm. "Oh, it tastes kinda—"
Arenade slapped Edina's arm away from her adventurous tongue. "If you get sloshed again, I'm not saving you from a hangover."
"Okay, wait. You have me beat. I didn't expect you to truly be a succubus. Perhaps we can work out a deal?" Tearsal had recovered from her sexual daze and was already on her feet.
Startled by it coming to consciousness, the four of them leapt back and struck a defensive pose. Kanae and Edina, having already been trapped once, were extra careful.
"That's rich coming from the one that attacked us first!" Edina ordered her skeletal army to draw their weapons at her.
"Neither I nor my nectar would have killed you. I only wanted to drain your magic a little and would have let you out by tomorrow. It's just that goblins normally come by to exchange their magic for my nectar. They haven't lately, so I've been oh so starved…" she explained.
"Eugh… Goblins," Arenade remarked with apparent revulsion.
"What's wrong with goblins?" Kanae chimed in. "You're fine around Takumi."
"All I'm trying to say is those mangy green midgets deserve not an ounce of respect or sympathy from me," she said, then looked to the others to back her up. "Come on, you guys think so, too, right?"
"Your friend's alright. He only hits on you, Kanae. As long as I'm not in his sights, we're cooler than frost wisp." Edina nodded.
Kanae's impression of goblins were skewed by Takumi to begin with. He actually had no idea what kind of creatures they were in this world beyond what he saw from pornos back in Japan. They could be a bunch of rapists for all he knew. However, if they had the sense to conduct trade with others like the alraune here, they must be intelligent enough to talk to.
The party ultimately stowed their weapons, seeing that the alraune wasn't a threat. The alraune was only hungry, and if Kanae was in her position, he would have hoped someone would be kind enough to feed him in kind. Although his kind of feeding was very different…
Sympathizing with the alraune, Kanae reached into his satchel to pull out a fragment of crystallized mana. The shining blue gem was one of many they had pocketed when the mana-vamp starfishes went on a feeding spree on the demon army. Seeing it left the plant monster girl salivating, eyes-widening, as she fixated on it like a starved child. As soon as he pressed the crystal into her palm, the alraune gulped it whole and squealed delightfully like it was candy she had eaten.
"That… That was maybe a hundred gold she just swallowed…" Arenade mumbled absentmindedly.
"Oh, give it a rest. We're not hurting for money. Besides, it helps to make a friend out here. Especially with an alraune who probably has eyes and ears on what goes on in the forest," Kanae said, producing another crystallized mana to tempt the alraune. "There's a village called Bisk near here. Apparently shady-looking people came through a little earlier. They kidnapped my friends, so I'm looking for them."
"It must have been the carriage that came down that stone road. For whatever reason, they didn't follow along the wall as many do and went deeper into the forest instead," Tearal explained.
"That has to be them! Do you know where they were headed?" Kanae snatched the alraune's soft hands and leaned in so close that he startled her.
"I don't know for sure. I can only sense as far as my roots let me, and I sensed they had traveled past the brook some time ago. If you're heading that way, perhaps you may check in on the goblin village for me, too. Someone there must know more," she insisted.
Thanking the alraune, they gathered their things to be on their way. However, before leaving, Edina scooped handfuls of nectar into a glass jar.
"Really?" Kanae put his hands on his hips.
"What? It tastes good!" Edina exclaimed.
"Ah, you think so?" Tearal smiled, squeezing her breasts and pinching both nipples, milking out what looked like the same substance. "I believe they are what your kind calls… breast milk and vaginal secretions. The goblins I have a rapport with in this forest drink it as grog."
Suddenly, Edina didn't look so keen on collecting the nectar anymore.
"I… don't know if I should be grossed out or aroused," Edina frowned, but ultimately gathered a jar for herself.
The forests here were just as vast as Turic, but trees were much less dense and terrain was easier to traverse through. It seemed more active at night, with creatures darting from branch to branch. They stayed close to the trees, careful to avoid having open spaces around them at all times in order to see a potential ambush coming.
The brook was just below the hill they had crested over, and a little ways beyond it was a wooden palisade wall, erected haphazardly with many gaps in between the old, moss-covered lumber. As the party drew closer, expecting the chatter of goblins, they were instead met with dead silence. Peeking in between the gaps revealed no light or life. Torches and braziers had gone cold, the doors of many shoddily built cabins were either broken or left wide open, and only a raccoon was present, nibbling on a piece of meat hanging on a drying rack.
"Where in the three hells is everyone?" Edina muttered.
"Whatever happened," Kanae began, gesturing to the many boot prints on the ground leading in and out of the entrance that were too large to be goblins. "They might not have left willingly."
