Chapter 153 Tower Meow: As Long as There's a Male Mom
The Centaurs gathered around snapped back to their senses, with several of them raising their swords, shields, and spears to break ranks and charge forward with wicked smiles, ready to skewer this obstacle in their path and then hurry to indulge in the beautiful females who had trespassed into Arcadia.
"I knew it; these four-legged nuisances have nothing to do with me..."
As the Centaurs holding their weapons charged, the recently appointed God of Wine stepped forward while cradling the infant in his arms.
"Moo!"
The moment the two sides clashed, a dazzling golden light burst forth in the enemy ranks, transforming into the phantom of a golden bull. It let out an angry low roar, and the surging Divine Power sent the charging Centaurs flying with blood spraying and bones shattering. They were reduced to twisted lumps of flesh, thrown backwards.
The crimson blood sprayed in a trail, and several Centaurs lay dying in deep pits, letting out pitiful screams and wails.
However, this did not instill fear in the remaining Centaurs but instead ignited their innate ferocity.
"Kill them, kill them all!"
The Centaur with a golden helmet brandished a huge axe, and his body erupted with the golden glow unique to deities, bellowing as he led the charge.
The rest of the hundreds of Centaurs eagerly seized their weapons, following suit with excited cries.
The ground shook with thunderous vibrations as the collective charge of the Centaurs swept over like a tidal wave towards the solitary figure in the center.
In the face of this thundering spectacle, the infant in Luo En's arms felt no fear but instead leaned out with big tea-colored eyes, curiously gazing forward with a giggle.
"Quite brave, aren't you? Seems like you'll be quite the handful in the future!"
Luo En ran his finger along the little girl's nose and teased her with a smile before securing the infant in front of him, freeing up both hands to dive into the enemy ranks like a tiger amongst sheep.
Wherever he went, the surrounding Centaurs were either blown away by terrifying brute force with shattered innards, disarmed by adept techniques and killed with their own weapons, or manually toppled, ending up dead under the trample of their peers...
In an instant, what the Centaurs thought to be a mere raid turned into a scene of utter carnage, with heavy casualties.
Seeing the bloodshed around him, the little infant in Luo En's arms laughed even more joyously, her face flushing with excitement as if thoroughly enjoying the intense battle.
"Die!"
Witnessing his subordinates being slaughtered, the Centaur leader, adorned with a golden helmet, could no longer contain his rage. He cleaved a hapless Centaur that obstructed his path in two, then swung his axe blade directly towards Luo En's forehead.
But the powerful strike that should have split open the enemy's skull stalled in mid-air, motionless.
"Is that all?"
Luo En glanced up, examining the axe handle stuck in his hand, and shook his head with a scoff.
Perceiving the mockery in that expression, the Centaur leader roared in fury, invoking his Divinity to its limit, vowing to crack open that detestable two-legged sheep's skull.
However, the resistance he expected to meet vanished abruptly.
The Centaur leader, overexerting himself, plunged headlong into the ground, tumbling forward into the pit.
But before his dazed head could lift from the dirt, a foot stomped down mercilessly, severing the Centaur leader's neck without hesitation.
The pain of broken bones and suffocation allowed the creature to taste the shadow of death, causing it to struggle frantically.
Luo En smiled faintly, casually picked up the bronze axe the Centaur leader had dropped, and swung it forward.
"Pff!"
Accompanied by the hot gush of blood, a large and ghastly head tumbled into the pit, its dilating pupils stared at the night sky with fear and lifelessness.
Having dealt with the Centaur leader who was a somewhat credible threat, Luo En dropped the blood-stained axe, looked around at the Centaur carcasses, and couldn't help but shake his head with a sneer.
"With such meager skills, you still dreamed of raiding the camp ahead? Truly brazen. Don't you know those women are ones even I dare not provoke?"
After giving a brief glance at the group of four-legged creatures, Luo En casually snapped his fingers, invoking the Divine Rhythm of the Bull.
The churning soil buried the scattered corpses and blood deep into the earth.
Their flesh would become food for worms and nourishment for plants next year, a form of returning to nature in another sense.
After the simple clean-up, Luo En dusted off his clothes and walked towards the camp hidden in the secluded valley.
~~
"What took you so long?"
As soon as he sat down, Artemis, with a face full of concern, pressed him for an explanation.
"Ran into some trouble..."
Luo En did not hide the truth, recounting the Centaur attack he had encountered.
"Those filthy beasts!"
Hearing that the quadrupeds had dared to target them, the Goddesses were instantly fired up, wishing they could dig up the bodies and lash them once more.
Artemis's lovely face darkened with fury as she declared that come morning, she would reduce the Centaur population in Arcadia.
The Nymphs and Muses beside her also raised their hands in enthusiastic agreement.
Looking at the group of Goddesses bristling with killing intent around him, Luo En couldn't help but mourn for the unfortunate Centaurs for a few seconds.
"Who did you think you were robbing? Why mess with this bunch of tigresses?"
An original guardian deity of the Centaur tribe shook his head in secret and without hesitation, abandoned the idea of subduing this beastly alliance.
If his Dionysian Sect was to develop and grow smoothly, it definitely needed to weed out the undesirable elements and not just accept any trash.
So, no salvation was coming. Just wait for death!
After mentally issuing a death notice to the beasts, Luo En immediately undid the swaddling clothes on his chest.
In an instant, a small head emerged eagerly, sniffing with its tiny nose and crawling toward Artemis's embrace, burrowing chaotically into the deep ravine within.
Caught off guard, the Goddess of the Hunt shuddered and quickly held down the infant's small head, her face flushing as she asked.
"Where did this come from?"
"Uh, found it..."
Luo En promptly responded, explaining the events, then cleared his throat and suggested.
"Looking at her, isn't she hungry?"
"Hmm, she should be..."
Artemis nodded subconsciously, slightly annoyed as she glanced at the little one who had left a big patch of drool on her chest, then turned to issue commands to the surrounding Nymphs.
"Find some breast milk for this child."
Breast milk?
For a moment, the Nymphs of the hunting temple, who had sworn to chastity, looked at each other with puzzled faces.
Where could they find such a thing nearby? They couldn't even squeeze any out for themselves.
"It doesn't have to be human. A lactating mother animal will do."
Luo En reminded them gently, and the Nymphs suddenly realized, quickly forming groups to search the nearby forest.
In no time, the domineering huntresses of the forest brought several lactating mother animals, with their young, to the camp.
There were mother bears, goats, and even wild boars...
And as these trembling mother animals were herded over, the little one, smelling the scent of milk, wriggled out of Artemis's embrace and squirmed into the embrace of one of them.
It was a golden-haired lioness, which had recently suffered the pain of losing her cub due to a hunter's pursuit.
Perhaps because Artemis was present, the lioness behaved very submissively, not only did she not resist the closeness of this human cub, but she also opened up her belly to start nursing.
The starving infant lay on the lioness's soft belly, latching onto the teat, and suckled greedily on the sweet fluid.
Seeing such a charming sight, the maternal instinct surged among the Goddesses, each yearning to hold the child and show affection.
However, after the little one had its fill of milk, it looked around and then burst into giggles, crawling back into the arms of its male mama.
Luo En smiled wryly, stretched out his arms helplessly, and gently picked up the baby.
"It looks like she really likes you."
Artemis sat down next to her lover, watching the baby's delicate and spirited face, smiled, and gently wiped the milk foam from the child's mouth.
Perhaps influenced by the Goddess's kindness, the little one's bright eyes opened wide, and she babbled, hugging Artemis's fingers to her chest before finally falling soundly asleep.
A wondrous warmth and rhythm flowed from the fingertips to her heart, and the Goddess of the Hunt, moved on impulse, looked hopefully at her lover.
"I like this child too. So, why don't we... you, could you help me adopt her?"
She was a virgin Goddess pledged to chastity, and even if she bravely broke through the shackles to taste the forbidden fruit with her beloved, their relationship could never be exposed to daylight.
It was also unlikely that she could bear children for her beloved.
Rather than regretting it later in agony, it was better to take this heaven-sent child as their own and nurture her as the bond of their love.
Plus, with this little one fostered by her lover, she would have a justified reason to visit (and meet secretly) and engage in intimate actions without arousing suspicion.
Hearing the implication in those words, Luo En immediately understood Artemis's intention, nodded with a smile, and willingly handed the fortunate little one into the arms of the female hunter.
"Alright, Lady Artemis, then you should give her a name."
Artemis took the swaddling clothes, gazed at the face brimming with spirit, thought carefully, and spoke with a smile.
"Atalanta, let's call her Atalanta."
Then, the Goddess kissed the baby's forehead, and the rhythm of divine power surged into the girl's body, bestowing upon her the hunting God's blessing from nature.
After the ceremony ended and the now quiet infant returned to his arms, Luo En looked at the little girl sleeping soundly in the wrap, clutching his finger, and couldn't help but be amused.
Atalanta, the abandoned princess of Arcadia, who vowed chastity to the Goddess Artemis and achieved great deeds during the "Calendon Hunt", winning many honors. She also took part in the famed "Argonaut Expedition", a female hero renowned for her archery and speed.
Reportedly, Peleus, the father of Achilles and a great hero, also lost to this beautiful huntress in a test of strength.
It was her? Now that's hitting the jackpot.
