Chapter 112.1
“Should I kill him that easily?”
Calix’s eyes glinted as he laughed, sending a shiver down Ryzen’s spine. It was as if his raw murderous intent could pierce through his skin at any moment.
Truly, his master was furious right now.
The writhing and screams of enemy soldiers who pleaded for mercy on the battlefield, pleading for their lives to be spared, begging for him to stop, soon seemed to be reproduced there in the basement of the Grand Duchy… and it would last for a very long time.
“Order them to be discreet about it and put them under strict surveillance.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
Calix’s eyes glowed coldly with a reddish hue. Ryzen was sure that anyone who dared to speak a word against the lady of the house would not survive. Preserving the corpse intact alone would be an act of mercy.
Ryzen changed the subject carefully.
“What are your thoughts on Rebecca Vallouse?”
“Just watch her for now. It seems that Fernandez intends to protect the Vallouse for the time being.”
“We received a report from an informant last night. It seems that once the matter is over, Rebecca Vallouse intends to leave the Empire for a while.”
“And here I thought she was just a reckless fool.” Calix sneered.
“It is said that Viscount Vallouse offered the Emperor exclusive rights for the trade and sails routes as a gift.”
A flicker of interest passed over Calix’s face.
“That’s pretty much the entirety of House Vallouse.”
“Isn’t this the viscount who was well known for cherishing his only daughter? And after more than seven years of devoted support to Philip for the sake of his daughter, let alone marriage, she was shamefully discarded…”
“And what’s the cost for such a gift?”
“The head of Philip Chartus.”
After the marriage of Asella and Calix, the Vallouse family exerted more pressure on Philip. Now that Anthony would soon inherit the viscountcy, they wanted to expedite the marriage between him and Rebecca, which he had been delaying with all types of excuses.
However, Philip had no intention of marrying Rebecca, not even a bit, and instead came up with a dirty plan.
First, they signed the marriage contract and set the wedding date far in the future. Rebecca was disappointed since it wouldn’t happen soon, but happy that they would finally be husband and wife.
She remained utterly unaware that Philip had not obtained the marriage license from the Emperor.
If it had ended there, he might have been able to make some sort of excuse. But Philip, who wanted to completely eliminate Rebecca from his life, decided to take drastic measures.
“You foolish woman, you ultimately dug your own grave.”
He attempted to hire assassins to kill Rebecca, but the attempt failed.
Philip knew that the assassins were killed by Rebecca’s escort knights; however, what he didn’t know was that one of the assassins had survived. The captured assassin fell into the hands of Viscount Vallouse and was tortured and interrogated until he revealed the whole truth.
“With a knife stabbed to her back, she must have felt betrayed.”
Rebecca, deceived by her lover, was devastated, to say the least. The fury of her father was indescribable. He raged, vowing to kill Philip immediately, and the Viscountess felt so bad for her daughter that she didn’t eat or sleep for days.
However, surprisingly, Rebecca was the first to regain her composure.
It wasn’t easy for her to admit that her lover had tried to kill her. It was a heart-wrenching and agonizing realization, but the evidence was clear.
