Chapter 64 – Good Person
At the current moment, Takei was very troubled with the events that were conspiring.
Somehow, he had found a love letter addressed to him in his locker.
Takei opened and read the letter which revealed that he had a secret admirer waiting to confess to him.
The letter instructed him to go to the back of the school once classes were done in order to address the owner of the letter.
In other words, Takei would have to confront and address his secret admirer.
"This is going to be problematic..."
Takei mumbled to himself and fully expressed his displeasure.
It's not like he was dating anyone currently, but he already had someone in mind.
By coincidence, Takei noticed a yellowish color out of the corner of his left eye.
He turned around and found a very annoyed looking goddess that was gripping the edge of her school bag with great intensity.
Looking down at his hand, Takei realized that he was still holding the letter with a heart sticker on it.
He had accidentally let Akari see the very root of his troubles, which ended up putting her into a very sour mood.
"Hey... What is that you got there?"
Akari asked Takei about the letter in a very roundabout and suspicious way. Her voice was cold as ice and had no emotion in it.
Since there was no point in hiding it from her, Takei openly explained the situation.
"I received a love letter and the sender told me to respond to her after school..."
Unsurprisingly, Akari's face grew more grim as Takei explained his current predicament.
"That's a problem..."
Akari seemed very frazzled by the situation that was unfolding in front of her.
Takei didn't want to make her worry anymore, so he tried to alleviate her worries.
"Don't worry, I'll just go there after school and reject her."
He didn't have any special feelings for anyone else, besides for the person in front of him.
With that iron resolve, Takei was ready to genuinely confront the person who so bravely confessed their feelings to him.
"..."
Even with Takei's statement, Akari's fears were still not fully assuaged.
She knew that Takei would never accept the confession, but Akari was still fearful of what could happen.
No matter what, Akari did not want to lose Takei.
It was a selfish wish that didn't account for Takei's own wishes, but she didn't want to give up the most important person in her life.
"Okay, but I'm going too."
Akari replied to Takei's decision with her own selfish wish.
Knowing that she was still insecure about it, Takei wryly grinned and accepted her decision.
"Alright, just make sure that she doesn't see you."
Akari nodded and felt thankful about Takei's benevolence.
It was his love life, so she has no reason to intervene.
However, Akari wanted to be the most special person in his life.
Therefore, it was only natural for her to make sure that it stays that way.
Little did she know though, Akari was already the most special person in his life.
***
Throughout the whole day, Akari was wearing a poker face and tried to act as normal as possible.
In reality, she was extremely nervous and was on the edge of her seat the entire time.
Akari was counting the minutes until Takei would have to confront the sender of the letter.
In contrast however, Takei had been very calm throughout the whole day.
He wasn't too troubled by the confession, since he had a feeling that it might just be a prank.
There's no way someone would ask out a gloomy guy like me.
His reasoning reinforced by his inferiority complex was what kept Takei mentally calm.
As the clock ticked slowly, the bell for the end of school finally rang.
Deciding to take the initiative, Takei bolted out of his chair and headed for the back of the school.
As expected, the goddess promptly followed him after all the prying eyes were off of her.
After a few moments, Takei reached the back of the school with little trouble.
Usually, the back of the school was always deserted. No matter the time, there weren't many people or any people here at all. It was likely due to the students either rushing home or going to their clubs that resulted in the abandonment of the back of the school.
Takei leaned against the front of a tree, while Akari hid behind a bench a few meters back.
After a few minutes passed, a girl appeared who Takei assumed to be the sender of the letter.
If he remembered correctly, the girl's name was Arisa Kawasegawa.
She was a bookworm, quiet girl who was in one of his classes.
"Sorry, I made you wait even though I was the one who invited you out here."
The obviously shy girl was bowing very forcefully in front of Takei.
"Haha, it's fine."
Takei brushed off her apology, since they were his true feelings.
"So... what is your answer?"
Arisa seemed anxious to hear his answer since she pressed him for an answer on the spot.
"Before I answer your confession, what do you even like about me?"
Takei couldn't understand what she saw in him, so he decided to interrogate her first.
"What I like about you? There's so much that I don't even know what to begin with..." Arisa said. "To begin with, your kindness and gentlemanliness is what made me attracted to you. The way you act towards girls is what every girl dreams of getting."
Arisa breathed in and began her tangent.
"Another thing I love about you is how you're so gentle. Even with your sharp demeanor, you still are nice to others albeit in an indirect way. Also, you're so kind and handso-"
"Stooooop! I'm okay now, thanks for the flattery!"
Takei was getting increasingly embarrassed about the praise he was getting, so he tried to shut her down early before anything else could be said.
Arisa started to realize just what she was saying, as evident by her red stained cheeks.
"Then, your answer?"
She once again asked him to reply to her confession.
Deciding that he could no longer delay the inevitable, Takei answered her once and for all.
"I'm sorry."
