Chapter 91: Confession! Lend me your life!
Lian Qingxue had been gloomy these past few days. Even in the milk tea shop, she seemed absent-minded.
The milk tea shop was still open at seven or eight in the evening. Lian Qingxue sat by a small round table, staring blankly out the window, lost in her thoughts.
“Qingxue! Come out for a walk with me!” Xiao Yue suddenly ran over and grabbed Lian Qingxue’s hand.
Lian Qingxue didn’t want to move, but Xiao Yue forcibly pulled her up. “Come on!”
She was helpless and could only follow Xiao Yue.
“Where are we going?” Lian Qingxue couldn’t help but ask as they got closer to the Chuncheng No.1 High School.
Xiao Yue’s eyes darted, and she casually replied, “Just going for a walk!”
When they reached the entrance of Chuncheng No.1 High School, Xiao Yue suddenly gave Lian Qingxue a gentle push.
She was pushed into the gates of Chuncheng No.1 High School. It was summer vacation, and the entire school was pitch black with no one around.
“Xiao Yue?”
She turned around and realized Xiao Yue had disappeared.
Suddenly, all the classrooms in the school lit up simultaneously. A rustling sound came from the speakers.
“Hello? Can you hear me?” Qi Yun’s voice came from inside.
Lian Qingxue raised her head in bewilderment, unsure of what was happening.
“Lian Qingxue, please spend ten minutes listening to a story. Now, look down and follow the arrows on the ground as you walk forward.”
Lian Qingxue lowered her head and saw a white chalk arrow on the floor.
Following the direction of the arrow, she walked from the school gate to the teaching building.
At the entrance of the teaching building, she saw another arrow pointing to a corner.
As she walked, she stopped at the entrance of a classroom on the first floor. She recognized this classroom. It was their classroom in the first year of high school.
Lian Qingxue looked at the classroom, feeling a bit nostalgic.
“Please enter the classroom where the story begins.” Qi Yun instructed her.
When Lian Qingxue entered, she saw a chalk drawing on the blackboard. A girl in the picture was sitting in the corner of the classroom by the window, head lowered.
Lian Qingxue knew. It was her.
“The story starts from my first year of high school. At that time, a new girl joined our class. She was inconspicuous, not beautiful, and not outgoing. We spent an entire year without saying a word to each other.”
The drawing indicated their story.
“Now, if I could have said a word to her back then, if I could have made her smile and be happy, how wonderful would that have been? But I didn’t.”
Qi Yun’s voice sounded regretful through the speakers.
“This was our first-year story, a story of strangers. Now, please continue following the arrows.”
Behind the classroom, an arrow guided Lian Qingxue up the stairs.
Lian Qingxue had already guessed what would happen. Sure enough, she arrived at their classroom from the second year of high school.
On the blackboard of the second-year classroom, there was another drawing. The girl was still sitting in the corner, head lowered, seemingly out of sync with the world.
However, there was a boy beside her desk now.
“In the second year, I finally spoke to that girl. Unfortunately, I only wanted to copy her homework, and she remained unhappy, even though she had my boiled egg. Our first conversation wasn’t romantic at all. It was simply a naked transaction.”
A tinge of reminiscence appeared on Lian Qingxue’s face.
So, their first interaction was like this?
“Now, if I could have been more romantic, would it have made her a little happier? At least, I could have given her a tea egg instead of a tasteless boiled egg.”
Lian Qingxue couldn’t help but laugh.
Qi Yun continued, “This was our second-year story. Unfortunately, our first interaction wasn’t beautiful. Lian Qingxue, please continue following the arrows.”
This time, Lian Qingxue didn’t even look at the arrow on the ground. She walked directly to their classroom from their third year of high school.
On the blackboard of the third-year classroom, there was another drawing. The girl stood up, wearing a different dress, smiling, and standing confidently on the podium. A boy was standing below, and they were looking at each other.
“In the third year, our story truly began. At this time, I finally realized there was such a wonderful girl by my side. I tried my best to talk to her, and luckily she confessed she liked me. She didn’t know that I was overjoyed to hear those words.”
Qi Yun continued, “Now I think, if only it happened a little earlier if only that girl could have been happier a bit earlier, then maybe I could have liked her a little more every day.”
“This is our story, simple and not even that long.”
Lian Qingxue stood there, listening to Qi Yun’s voice through the speakers, her face full of tenderness.
“Now, Lian Qingxue, please continue following the arrows.”
Lian Qingxue eagerly walked out of the room, following the guidance on the ground, until she reached the playground. The lights in the playground were also fully lit now.
There was no one inside.
“Now, Lian Qingxue, please look up!”
A huge white canvas suddenly unfurled from the third floor of the teaching building. Like a movie screen, it appeared in front of Lian Qingxue, leaning against the teaching building wall. There were dense words written on it.
Lian Qingxue tried hard to read them, but it seemed different people had written them.
“I once promised to let my classmates witness my confession. Now, I asked them to write down countless blessings for us.”
Lian Qingxue finally saw it clearly. They were all blessings related to them.
“Keep walking forward forever!!!” Three exclamation marks were particularly prominent.
“All my fantasies about love in high school came from you.” This was a girl’s handwriting, and it was in pink.
“If you two can’t be together, I will never believe in love again!” These words were written particularly large. There were many more. /Lian Qingxue glanced at them roughly.
There were probably hundreds of sentences. She didn’t know when Qi Yun had started preparing all of this. She stared blankly at the canvas, and her eyes suddenly became blurry.
Qi Yun continued speaking through the speakers, “Despite the many regrets in the past, I can’t help but fantasize about our future.”
“I imagine us at age twenty, carefree and youthful, making the most of our time together.”
“I imagine us at forty, cautiously being parents and growing together.”
“I imagine us at sixty, with white hair, facing each other, surrounded by descendants.”
“I imagine that even though I appeared a little later, we still have a long time together.”
Lian Qingxue covered her mouth, and tears finally welled up in her eyes.
“I know that you had a past family, with a father and mother who loved you dearly. Unfortunately, they can no longer continue to love you.”
“But I want to ask you for a chance to replace them, become your family, and continue loving you in their place.”
“Now…” Qi Yun’s voice suddenly appeared beside her, gentle as he said, “Can you please consider it seriously, Lian Qingxue? From now on, can we go from being girlfriend and boyfriend to becoming husband and wife, and from wife and husband to becoming lifelong companions?”
Lian Qingxue wanted to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out. She could only nod heavily and throw herself into Qi Yun’s embrace.
Qi Yun raised his hands, and suddenly, a loud applause erupted from the teaching building. Many students rushed out of the classrooms, clapping and cheering for them.
Qi Yun loudly announced, “I once said, please witness my confession. Now I can proudly tell you all that she has agreed!” The cheers grew even louder.
With so many people watching, Lian Qingxue couldn’t help but feel shy. She struggled out of Qi Yun’s embrace, stood up, and said, “Why are there so many people…?”
She felt embarrassed.
“Because I want the entire school, year after year, generation after generation of students, to remember our story.”
“I want them to know that there was once a young man named Qi Yun who genuinely liked a girl named Lian Qingxue.”
“I want them to hold me accountable and ensure I treat you well for a lifetime!”
Lian Qingxue couldn’t help but laugh again. Under the watchful eyes of everyone, she threw herself into Qi Yun’s arms again.
……
“Qingxue, Qingxue! Did I do a good job with the painting?” A group of people crowded around, with Xiao Yue at the forefront, excitedly jumping around.
“You knew too? You didn’t even tell me, and I cried so badly!”
Lian Qingxue cast a “severe” glance at Xiao Yue.
“Qi Yun asked me to keep it a secret! He’s the boss, so how can I not listen to him?” Xiao Yue retorted.
“I prepared that canvas!” Wang Shang exclaimed excitedly, speaking loudly.
“I wrote the biggest letters on the canvas!” A male student from their class said.
Qi Yun looked at the group of people arguing over credit and couldn’t help but smile. Their classmates from Class One had been a great help in making this event so grand.
They wrote their messages on the canvas and approached students from other classes to join.
Nearly half of the school’s five to six hundred third-year students had participated.
Qi Yun felt deeply grateful.
As the arguments grew more intense, Mr. Xu, who had blended into the crowd, cleared his throat and wore a serious expression. The students from Class One fell silent.
“I have the key to the broadcasting station,” Old Xu said indifferently.
“Hey, I also played a major role, you know?” Qi Yun confidently declared, “Today, all of you who came, don’t leave tonight. I’ll treat you to barbecue, and there will be plenty of meat!”
“Sounds great!”
……
After Qi Yun’s school confession, Lian Qingxue finally stopped feeling down. They both began preparing for their trip to the capital.
Suddenly, Wang Shang rushed to Qi Yun’s house.
“Qi Yun! You’ve become famous!”
