Chapter 23
Chloe stood on the runway with everyone else, watching Daniel run.
He was already halfway through, and from where they were standing, he was just a tiny black dot.
Most of the Werewolf Race were also standing at the edge of the runway watching. After hearing the reason for this, instead of getting angry, this group of simple-minded, muscular fellows sincerely thanked the chief for single-handedly sparing everyone from the clutches of the five-kilometer run.
Though it was hard to say whether Daniel himself appreciated the gratitude.
Watching the werewolves next to her ceaselessly cheering Daniel on, Chloe closed her eyes in silence for a moment before leading her team to shift over to the side a little.
Best keep their distance, so as not to be infected by their stupidity.
It took Daniel thirty-one minutes to finish the five-kilometer run. This time wasn't particularly impressive. Ren Yunying didn't have any other reaction to it, simply telling him to hurry back to the lineup.
Thanks to Daniel, they didn't have to run five kilometers today, but there were other training exercises lined up.
Ren Yunying led them to the foot of a towering mountain that pierced the clouds.
It was hard to imagine that on this isolated island, inside this military academy, there would be such a tall mountain.
Looking at the mountain peak in front of her, so their training mission today was to climb the mountain? Though this mountain was far too steep. Their lineup was still some distance from the mountain, and Chloe couldn't make out any footholds from where she stood.
Just then, Ren Yunying walked over to stand in front of them.
Chloe felt the other's gaze on her and raised her eyes, discovering that the other was looking at her muzzle.
"... "
If this had happened before, Chloe definitely would have bared her fangs and provoked the other. But she didn't dare to now. As unruly as she was, she still feared Ren Yunying's whip.
So instead, she took a different approach. Holding her head high and thrusting out her chest, she displayed her muzzle even more comprehensively, looking extremely proud of it.
As long as she herself wasn't embarrassed, the embarrassment would be on the other person instead.
Ren Yunying: "..."
This girl really was quite special.
Back when Xavier had enrolled, he had also worn a muzzle like this. But whenever anyone laid eyes on his muzzle, he would tackle them to the ground without mercy and beat them violently, even the instructors were not spared.
Of course, the somewhat naive Xavier back then would not get the upper hand against the instructors either, but he had persevered time and again despite repeated defeats. He was very persistent.
If memory served correctly, Chloe was Xavier's biological daughter. He didn't know how that guy had raised such a shameless daughter.
Thinking of this, Ren Yunying's gaze grew complicated. In the end, she stopped looking at Chloe's muzzle and simply said, "Everyone, follow me."
She led everyone deep into the mountain woods.
This was the area with the most fallen leaves in the entire mountain forest. Green and yellow tree leaves were piled high on the ground, crunching crisply with every step.
Chloe's eyes swept over the leaves, observing the surroundings.
Just then, Ren Yunying spoke up from the front, "Today, I won't make you run five kilometers. The only thing you have to do is hide in these woods until noon without me finding you, and shoot me once."
After finishing speaking, she took out a large box from her spatial ring and handed out airsoft guns to each of them.
These guns didn't have strong destructive power and were mostly used for practice.
"Your aim must be good when shooting," Ren Yunying hung a glass lantern at her waist, "You must break my glass lantern to be considered victorious."
"Do you understand!"
The crowd responded loudly, "Understood!"
Of course Chloe understood as well. She stroked the airsoft gun in her hand.
This was actually the most common concealment training in the military. Ren Yunying had simply added the extra condition of having to shoot accurately.
Chloe said nothing. After Ren Yunying put on a blindfold, she swiftly dragged Anderson next to her and ran up a tree.
At the same time, chaotic footsteps sounded all around as the cubs scrambled to hide.
Chloe moved silently, this was the innate advantage of the blood race that she had brought to the extreme.
She was like a cat, climbing noiselessly all the way to the top layer of the tree and hiding amidst the dense foliage.
The trees on the mountain had grown for many years and had thick sturdy branches, enough to support two people lying on them in an extremely awkward position.
Anderson didn't make a single sound from start to finish. He was hauled up by Chloe quietly, and was stuffed into the leaves just as quietly, with Chloe's airsoft gun resting on his shoulder.
Chloe lay next to him, pressing a finger to her lips and making a brief "Shh—".
The corner of Anderson's lips quirked up as he nodded.
Their position was extremely concealed, but the difficulty of shooting would be greater as well.
Because this tree was simply too tall, and they were at the very top, looking down they could only spot a moving black dot.
Ren Yunying took off her blindfold and started moving.
She held a long whip, walking unhurriedly through the woods, occasionally lifting the long whip to lash viciously at a corner.
"Your clothes are all exposed, this is your idea of concealment?"
"You've tucked away all your clothes, but your hair is red! Bright red! With such a thick strand of hair sticking out, do you think I'm blind?"
"Your barrel is sticking out, idiot."
"What, you two conjoined twins? Piled together with a big mound all pushed up, afraid I won't see you?"
Ren Yunying had only taken off her blindfold for a short while, but had already hauled out nearly thirty people.
These people were all covered in fallen leaves or mud, and had whip marks on them after being lashed.
Ren Yunying had controlled her strength and didn't break their skin, but the pain was real.
After another dozen or so minutes, she had hauled out almost everyone.
Qin Huaibei was also caught, but that was because his shot had gone awry. He had been so close.
Ren Yunying stood amidst all the students, a blade of grass in her mouth, "Anyone else left?"
Qin Huaibei stood next to her, holding the student roster.
He looked through the list and said, "Daniel, Chloe and Anderson are left."
Hearing Anderson's name, Ren Yunying was slightly surprised for a moment. Then she suddenly recalled.
Oh right, Chloe's little follower. His abilities seemed quite outstanding too, but he had low presence for some reason.
Ren Yunying wasn't surprised that Chloe had persisted until the end, but what was going on with Daniel?
Since when did he become so smart?
On the tree trunk, Chloe's ears twitched. She held up two fingers, then lowered them.
This motion stirred up a faint breeze. Sensing it, Anderson's body tensed as he steadied the airsoft gun.
Chloe was also ready to strike at any moment.
In the next second, both their pupils suddenly contracted, a faint red light flashing in their eyes.
The originally unclear scenery instantly became distinct in their eyes. They could even clearly see the dandruff on some people's hair.
At the same time, Ren Yunying looked up as if sensing something.
In the next moment, Chloe and Anderson pulled their triggers simultaneously. Two bullets shot out from the barrels in a flash, shattering Ren Yunying's glass lantern at almost the same instant!
"Crack!"
The crisp sound of the glass lantern shattering was particularly pleasant on the ears.
Everyone was stunned.
Ren Yunying's brows furrowed slightly—
They were actually up in the trees? But she clearly hadn't heard any sounds of climbing up the trunks earlier.
