Chapter 13
Kewen was extremely dissatisfied with Anderson, as if he was looking at his own precious golden cabbage that had been dug up by a wild boar before it was fully grown. Smoke was practically coming out of the top of his head from anger.
Meanwhile, Chloe was completely oblivious and even turned her head to talk to Anderson:
"Where did you go earlier? I couldn't find you."
It seemed to be Anderson's first time riding a motorcycle. His voice was a little hoarse and shaky, apparently not used to it:
"...I went to wash my face."
After saying that, he fell silent again.
Chloe nodded in understanding.
Pretty attentive to his image, not bad.
On the other side, Kewen was grinding his teeth so hard they almost shattered.
After returning to the manor, Kewen had a taut expression on his face as he personally carried Chloe down. He then looked coldly at Anderson.
Seeming to sense Kewen's attitude toward him, Anderson didn't say anything. He propped himself up on the motorcycle seat with both hands, closed his eyes and jumped down, stumbling a little as he landed.
Kewen let out a contemptuous snort through his nose and turned around to lead them inside.
"Young miss, why did you bring this person back?"
Kewen really didn't understand. A weak and filthy blood clan like this, even if he died miserably in the streets, no one would take pity. What exactly did the young miss see in him?
He looked back at the lowly young boy behind him, his expression even more unpleasant.
Chloe's reason was simple: "I wanted to."
Was it so wrong to do a routine good deed? Bringing someone back to work here as a servant was still better than letting him be abused at Francis' place.
Kewen asked her where she wanted this boy placed.
Chloe didn't care too much, only instructing: "However you arrange it, don't be too harsh on him."
Hearing this, Kewen licked his fangs, replying obscurely: "Very well."
After sending Chloe back to her room, Kewen turned around to face Anderson, hands in his pockets, standing tall and looking down at him arrogantly:
"What's your name?"
Anderson didn't look at him but reported his name neither humbly nor arrogantly.
Kewen nodded and walked over to the other side of the corridor. "Follow me."
He brought Anderson down to the third basement level. This place was different from the underground training room that Chloe normally used.
The smell of blood here was simply too strong, with visible bloodstains on the floor that hadn't been completely wiped away.
In the distance were many blood clans lined up in rows, both young and old, wearing black metal shackles around their necks and tightly gripping various weapons.
This was where the blood clans trained their warriors. Those who managed to survive this place would eventually become the most loyal subordinates to the royal blood clan.
They would devote their entire lives to the Ancestor Lord.
Seeing this, Anderson already vaguely understood what he was about to face.
Kewen spoke lightly: "See those people ahead? You'll train here from now on."
As if recalling something, he added: "Of course, if the young miss asks, tell her you're working as a servant in the manor. If anything about this place leaks out..."
Kewen's eyes instantly flashed a frightening bloodthirsty light. "Consider your life forfeit."
As his voice fell, he pushed Anderson forward.
"Since the young miss brought you back, your life now belongs to her. From now on, you must serve the young miss. Understood?"
Anderson didn't speak, but his footsteps were steady as he walked toward the line ahead.
No matter what, this was his opportunity, not only to find temporary shelter, but also to pick up some skills while he was here.
Of course, whether he could actually learn anything depended on his own ability. No use learning stuff if he ended up dead before he could put it to use.
A flash of darkness glinted in Anderson's eyes.
For Chloe today, this was just a trivial favor. After resting in her room for a while, she had to start more wing training right away.
The day she returned from the banquet, Chloe tried the training method used by the other fledglings.
But for some reason, whether it was because she had previously been thrown off a building without any safety precautions, having a rope tied around her waist this time didn't trigger any sense of fear or panic.
In short, her mind was extremely calm. This training method clearly wasn't going to work.
So Chloe went back to jumping off rooftops by herself.
Like before, she called Kewen over to carry her up to the rooftop.
Chloe buried her head in the man's shoulder, then lifted it and frowned. "Why do you smell weird?"
Hearing this, Kewen lowered his eyes. "Do I?"
"Yes," Chloe sniffed him closely then recoiled in disgust. "It smells bloody, gross."
Kewen casually said, "Maybe I accidentally got it on me somewhere."
Was that true? Chloe didn't pursue the question further.
The smell was nasty alright, but there was also a strange sweet scent mixed in there, unlike the artificial blood she had drank before.
It was actually a little similar to the blood that flowed from Xavier's neck that day.
Though she hated to admit it, Chloe thought, her crappy dad's blood didn't taste too bad, sort of sweet.
These thoughts were temporarily shoved aside for now.
Chloe was quickly and mercilessly thrown off the rooftop again.
That familiar sensation of nearing death surfaced once more, but it was much less intense than before.
As usual, Chloe tried her best to extend her senses toward her back.
The spots around her shoulder blades burned hotly as always, but her wings refused to emerge.
Extremely irritated, Chloe had an urge to twist her neck around and sink her fangs deeply into those burning areas.
Just as she neared the ground, Chloe heard the sound of fluttering wings behind her.
Annoyed, she focused all her strength to direct her senses toward her back.
Not long after, Kewen steadily caught her. At the same time, Chloe felt something forcefully burst out from her back with a "bang".
Chloe's spirit lifted. "Put me down!"
Kewen quickly obeyed.
The moment her feet touched the ground, Chloe reached behind to feel her back.
At the spots around her shoulder blades, usually hidden securely under her clothes, Chloe actually touched two small lumps.
The lumps weren't big, but felt extremely substantial when she touched them.
Chloe was a little dazed. "Are these wings?"
Hearing this, Kewen was also overjoyed. "Wings?"
He immediately reached out to feel the two small bulges. Wasting no time, he grabbed Chloe and rushed straight toward Xavier's office.
The speed was so fast that Chloe didn't even have time to react before she found herself carried into Xavier's office.
When Kewen entered, he could barely suppress his elation as he knocked twice on the door. After getting permission, he charged right in.
"Lord Ancestor, the young miss has grown wings!"
Sandwiched in Kewen's arms, Chloe lifted her head and bared her fangs at Xavier defiantly.
