Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Furokuta was a mid-level warrior of the beastmen tribe.
He looked at the one who had shot an arrow at him.
Judging by his outfit, he was just an ordinary soldier.
But even an ordinary soldier was a different story if he was such an accurate archer.
‘I have to kill him first.’
Otherwise, it could result in greater damage than expected.
Clutching the spear he had taken from the enemy soldier, Furokuta’s eyes gleamed as he hurled it back at the archer.
Even though the distance was well over forty meters, that was no obstacle for Furokuta.
Whoosh!
The spear flew in a low arc, aiming to pierce the archer’s body with fierce momentum.
Crash!
But the archer dodged behind a rock, avoiding the spear, prompting Furokuta to start running.
“Stop him!”
“Block that guy!”
The soldiers of the Artian Kingdom belatedly stood in his way, but they lacked the strength to stop him.
Furokuta easily knocked a few of them away with his broadsword and gained speed, charging up the slope like a predator.
But,
Whoosh!
“Ugh!”
He was caught off guard. He had expected the archer to aim for his head or heart at such close range.
An arrow pierced his leg, causing him pain, but
“Haaaaa-!”
Furokuta ignored it and charged at the fleeing archer, swinging his broadsword.
He intended to crush the archer’s head in one blow.
Crash!
But Furokuta’s broadsword struck the ground as the archer rolled to the side, dodging like a mouse.
The archer staggered to his feet, clearly injured from his fall.
“This is the end, you little rat!”
Furokuta was confident this was the end.
But just as the archer hid behind a large rock,
“…!”
Furokuta instinctively felt a chill down his spine.
It felt like facing a scorpion ready for its final strike.
‘Left? Right?’
The archer would have to emerge from one side to shoot.
The tension was palpable as Furokuta slowly approached the rock.
The closer he got, the more advantageous it was for him.
Clutching his broadsword tightly, he focused intently.
Which side…!
Just as his tension and focus peaked, whoosh!
“There you are!”
Something black darted out from the left, and Furokuta swung his sword without hesitation.
Slash!
He split it in two.
But the lightness at the tip of his sword made him realize what he had cut through.
It was just the archer’s breastplate.
“Here, you bastard.”
Lian jumped out from the opposite side, half-laying down as he pulled the bowstring.
They were close enough to touch.
Furokuta instinctively raised his broadsword to shield his neck and heart.
At this distance, he couldn’t see the arrow and block it.
He knew the archer would die if he didn’t kill him in one shot.
He didn’t care if the arrow hit his arm or leg.
‘I’ve won this fight!’
If he could block one arrow, it would all be over.
Furokuta’s lips curled into a smirk. But then, thunk!
The arrow Lian had shot embedded itself in Furokuta’s body.
“Gaaaah-!”
Furokuta, the giant, screamed uncontrollably and dropped to his knees in pain.
“Argh! Aaaagh!”
The young soldier from the Artian Kingdom had shot him in the groin.
Though slightly off target, the arrow in his crotch caused excruciating pain, making his mind go blank.
“Uaaaaaah!”
As Furokuta collapsed, Lian grabbed three arrows from his quiver and charged at him.
While the giant was groggy,
‘I have to finish this-!’
Lian aimed his arrows at Furokuta’s neck and jaw.
But just as he was about to pierce Furokuta’s neck, the giant grabbed Lian’s wrist with bloodshot eyes.
“DL… QLFJADM DOTHD…!”
He looked at Lian with beast-like eyes.
Lian felt frozen by the intense murderous intent and pressure.
But,
“Die, you bastard!”
Thwack!
“Gaaah!”
Lian kicked Furokuta where the arrow was lodged and tightened his grip on the arrows.
As Furokuta flinched in pain,
Thunk!
Lian’s arrow pierced his neck.
“Grr…!”
With a gurgling sound, Furokuta’s body trembled.
The arm that had raised the broadsword to crush Lian’s head fell limply to the ground.
Clang!
The broadsword rolled away as his massive body slumped over Lian.
Thud!
“Ugh…!”
Blood flowed from Furokuta’s wounds, spilling onto Lian’s neck and chest.
Lian pushed the giant off and grabbed the broadsword, taking Furokuta’s head as a trophy. Then,
“Lian of Eagle Company has killed the enemy commander!”
His voice echoed through the canyon.
Though not the overall commander, calling him a commander was to boost morale on the battlefield.
“Uaaaaaah!”
“The enemy commander is dead! The rest are just rabble! Kill them all!”
“Push forward!”
The morale of the Eagle Company soldiers soared to the heavens,
“AKF DKSEO! GNZNSLADL!”
“AKRKFK! AKRK!”
The once even balance began to tilt in their favor.
Eagle Company Begins to Push Back the beastmen Tribe
As the soldiers of Eagle Company gradually pushed the beastmen tribe warriors back, a path began to open up.
Seeing this, Derek shouted,
“Attack the enemy’s rear!”
He pointed his sword forward, and the squad leaders relayed his orders, following behind him.
“Die, you beastly scum!”
Thud! Crack!
“Aaaaah!”
“SO VKDKDKDKF-!”
“TKFFU…!”
With the addition of the 5th Platoon, the rear guard of the beastmen tribe, which numbered nearly two hundred, was reduced to less than half.
“Let the fleeing ones go! We’re hitting the enemy’s main camp from the rear!”
“Move quickly! Our allies are dying!”
Some of the beastmen tribe members began to flee as they found themselves overwhelmingly outnumbered.
It was the expected outcome.
With the death of Furokuta, their linchpin, they had lost their center.
Unable to join the main force, their choices were to resist to the death or to flee.
“The path is clear.”
As their troops quickly penetrated the enemy’s rear, Lian ran swiftly behind them.
‘Remaining arrows…’
He had used quite a few arrows in his fight with Furokuta.
He had only six functional arrows left.
‘I must shoot carefully.’
Though there were spears and broadswords scattered around, Lian was most lethal with his bow.
“Uraaaaaa-!”
The beastmen tribe members, their rear suddenly exposed, were visibly panicked.
“The 3rd and 5th platoons have broken through the rear!”
“Now is the chance! Push forward and show them that this Pellon Gorge is their grave!”
“Die!”
“Uraaaaaa!”
The appearance of their allies at the rear boosted the morale of the soldiers attacking from the front.
But then,
Crash!
“Ugh!”
With a dull thud, a leading soldier collapsed to the ground.
“Is there a warrior who can face me?!”
The speaker’s fluent continental common language was accompanied by a mane of red hair and fierce eyes, making him look more beast than man.
Bulging arm muscles with worm-like veins, and a massive halberd in his hand.
Karouldin.
He was the proud upper warrior of the beastmen tribe and the commander of nearly five hundred beastmen tribe warriors.
Slash! Crunch!
“Aaaaagh!”
“Aaaah!”
Every swing of his halberd injured or killed at least two soldiers.
Around him lay over thirty fallen Eagle Company soldiers.
Karouldin stepped on the fallen soldiers, exuding an aura of formidable might.
No one dared to challenge him.
Grit!
Despite breaking through the rear, they couldn’t secure victory with Karouldin standing like a wall at the front.
Raymond, still on his horse, gripped his sword.
They had to break through him somehow.
“Brian! Holun! Follow me, we’re taking down their commander!”
Platoon Leader Brian and Platoon Leader Holun were known for their strong swordsmanship within Eagle Company.
Raymond was playing his strongest card.
“Let’s go!”
“Hya! Charge!”
“Yah!”
Thud-thud-thud!
The three horses charged towards Karouldin.
But Karouldin did not dodge. Instead, he gripped his halberd tightly and swung at the charging Raymond.
Whoosh!
Seeing Karouldin’s swing, Raymond ducked.
The halberd narrowly missed his helmet, cutting through the air.
Chills ran down Raymond’s spine.
It felt like a whirlwind had blown past him.
Raymond felt like his head was about to be severed even though he had dodged it.
“Haa!”
But Brian, following closely behind, swung his sword at Karouldin.
He aimed for the opening right after Karouldin’s swing.
Clang!
But Karouldin casually deflected the sword with the metal guard on his forearm.
It was a ghostly move.
‘He’s incredible…’
Lian’s eyes trembled slightly as he watched.
“That guy… is the Butcher of Pellon Gorge.”
In his past life, he had almost wiped out the Eagle Company at Pellon Gorge.
There was a clear difference between him and Furokuta.
Even from a distance, Karouldin exuded an aura that seemed impenetrable.
‘But he must be killed.’
If they could kill him, the war would end.
The beastmen tribe was known to scatter if their leader fell.
That’s why they could break through the rear guards so easily after killing Furokuta.
Thud!
Lian moved quickly.
Killing that guy with his current strength was impossible. But he could threaten him.
‘A close combat fight is out of the question, but with a bow… it’s different.’
His hands, still soft and not yet calloused, ached every time he drew an arrow.
Lian quickly moved to a hill for cover and aimed at Karouldin.
Crash!
Despite being outnumbered three to one, Karouldin was dominating.
“Haaaa-!”
With Raymond leading, Brian and Holun attacked him from both sides.
Though they had lost some mobility after falling from their horses, they surrounded and attacked him simultaneously.
Slash!
“I hit him!”
Karouldin dodged Raymond and Brian’s attacks, but Holun’s sword cut into his left thigh.
The wound wasn’t deep, but it bled considerably.
But as Holun shouted,
Crunch!
“Gah-!”
Karouldin grabbed Holun by the neck with his left hand and lifted him.
“Urgh! Argh!”
Holun, with his large build and armor, weighed nearly 100 kg.
But Karouldin lifted him like a child.
“Holun!”
“Put Holun down!”
Raymond and Brian charged at Karouldin.
At that moment,
Whirrr!
Karouldin’s eyes glowed, and a faint red light flickered on the blade of his halberd.
Crash!
“Ugh!”
“Aaagh!”
Karouldin swung his halberd with one hand, sending Raymond and Brian flying.
The destruction was unimaginable.
The difference in skill was evident.
But then,
Whoosh!
With a tearing sound, an arrow shot towards Karouldin’s chest.
