The Earth After Rebirth

Chapter 409: Home Office

Sekani sat at his home office desk, tired out of his mind having five little children in the house. And with the successful launch of his business there was more paperwork to do.

There was no rest for him, as much as they had Alora not so long ago he'd forgotten how troublesome newborns could be.

In any case, he was happy his son found a way to get them out of the slums and now they had money and help for everything, it was just the fact they were too used to working and taking care of their kids by themselves.

"The slums..." He mumbled and chuckled at the word.

Soon enough, there will no longer be such a place in Sanctauri. His business would make sure of that, with how successful it was, they were already thinking about branching into other other districts and eventually be in almost every area.

That was actually what he was looking at as he yawned and stretched his body. Philip had written a report on how to go about branching out and calculated everything about costs. It was a lot but nothing they couldn't afford that's how surprisingly successful the new company was.

There was a lot that worried him, with his two sons deciding to save the world through the game. The promise he made to his son, he practically begged him to trust him to take care of the mess his own father left behind.

And when he dealt with that, he was scared what it would mean for his family. Would the rich families come for the Waynworth household? He had no idea, as much as he tried not thinking about it he couldn't. They had a lot to lose now, he needed to be careful.

Tiptoeing as he tried to, it would be impossible to not step on anybody's toes. They'd already shown the Blakesons that they didn't own their little sanctuary, they were new but they were already their main competition.

He knew Blakeson very well, as he was his boss before. He knew that he couldn't have taken that blow very well and this blow would even be bigger added the one his son and his friends made first.

"Well no point wallowing about that now, I promised my son and I'll protect my family..." His conviction was interrupted by light footsteps that were surely approaching his office.

His lips cracked into a smile, he cleared his throat, "come on in Wilfred."

He didn't yell but his voice was heard from beyond the door, deep and commanding. The door slowly cracked opened, revealing the old, hardened man.

"How did you know it was me sir?" He asked with an annoyed smile, the voice caught him off guard as he was about to knock.

Sekani let out a hearty laugh, "well my two sons have locked themselves in gaming pods. The little ones are sleeping, my wife is taking a break. You're the only one who can bother me here."

"And here I thought my footsteps were concealed. I'm truly getting old."

Sekani could do nothing but laugh at Wilfred, he truly looked annoyed that he was losing his touch but it wasn't that at all, his master was just on the better side for these things.

Wilfred only showed his annoyance because he understood the kind of person the person he served was. He didn't care much about the ranks every rich person cared about, he was also big on letting his employees have opinions of their own and voice them.

That was the only reason he grew comfortable to be like this with him.

He'd also been gone for more than a week, on Sekani's orders. He was tasked to do a reconnaissance of the location of the slave mine and learn everything about it and ways in which they could easily infiltrate it.

"Jokes aside Wilfred, did you find it? You've been gone for so long I was afraid you've gotten caught." The switch from hearty laughters scared even Wilfred.

He stayed standing and sighed deeply, "I found it sir."

Hearing the exasperation, Sekani offered him a sit and a drink. He downed the glass in one single gulp and then the next one.

"Ahh, that hits the spot." He commented the whiskey filling him up with warmth.

"To the more pressing matter, I did find the slave mine. It was exactly where the young master said it would be, I've seen many atrocities in my life but that wasn't anything I was prepared for." He took another deep breath, as thought drawing strength from within himself to remember the details of the mine.

"People in the slums live in luxury as compared to the slaves in those mines. They eat and shit at the very same place, they're chained to each other at all times. There were kids too Master Sekani..." Those last words choked him and he took another drink.

Sekani listened attentively, hot anger growing every second Wilfred described the place. It didn't show on his face, it growled like a sleeping beast from within himself.

When he heard that there were children too amongst the slaves, his heart sank. As a parent, he could not bear to imagine his own and it could have been Kiro or Loki as they were also in the slums not so long ago, they were just really lucky.

He found himself devasted that he was relieved of the fact that, none of his kids had been kidnapped for something like that. Remembering that another parent's child was taken, it hurt him as it was hurting Wilfred.

The old and wise eyes said it all.

"How old?" His voice came out a whisper unintentionally, he subconsciously didn't want to ask this question.

"As far as I could tell, they must not have been older than Master Loki." He took another swig, thinking of his sweet granddaughter who could've been easily the one chained to someone else in that mine.

"Gods Wilfred, what the hell are they doing out there!"
