Chapter 253
Honestly, married life didn’t feel that amazing.
Wherever we went, the congratulatory messages ended in a day or two. After a while, even the congratulators get tired of it, so they start to be considerate too.
Our daily life quickly returned to the peaceful life we had in the former country.
Ah, if you ask me if it was literally a perfect peace, that’s a bit different. I ended up being squeezed out by Acella every night, literally.
“Tanya, don’t think it’s weird. I have no one to ask about this.”
I secretly left work early to grab a drink in town with others, keeping it a secret from Acella. Finally, I had a chance to clear my curiosity.
“If it’s about nighttime issues, I can definitely consult you on that.”
“How did you know?”
“Most of the issues come from knight members, so I’m always active in trying to solve them since it directly affects their efficiency.”
“I see. Anyway, is it common for newlyweds to be like this?”
Tanya replied flatly to my question.
“That’s how it originally is. The longest record I’ve heard is thirty-four hours.”
“What?”
I couldn’t help but imagine a two-day sleepless marathon with Acella.
I would need an endless supply of vitality potions. It might be a good idea to make some energy drinks.
“The director is rather healthy. You can walk around all day, right?”
“Umm, I guess.”
“Your wife must be somewhat considerate.”
You’re saying that without seeing Acella on the bed. That tyrant is somehow managing to control me according to her will.
I held back the urge to reply like that. Knowing about Acella’s traits is my privilege as her husband. It’s a secret from others.
By the way, it’s normal like this. Yesterday, I had to face Acella who was charging at me without even having dinner.
I thought it might be unavoidable for a while.
“I’m worried that the fire might burn out quickly after starting.”
“There are quite a few cases like that, but usually, couples with a good relationship remain the same for decades. The frequency tends to decrease due to age and health, though.”
“So, Acella and I…”
“You should last quite a while.”
It’s fortunate if it lasts long, but because of the elixir, it might last forever.
Moreover, it’s only been a week since our married life began, and Acella already has quite an aggressive attitude.
During the day, she’s fine. In fact, she seems to have become more elegant after transitioning from a princess to a noblewoman. She even wears her hair up most of the time.
But at night is the problem, at night.
I’m worried about later. Five or ten years down the line?
Maybe it will get better if we have a child.
“Hugo, how about you? You married that lady who took care of Eri in the Empire, right?”
I shifted my attention to Hugo, who was quietly sipping whiskey beside me.
“Yes, we’re doing well.”
“What’s the level of ‘well’?”
“Hmm.”
Hugo, as always, took a long time to choose his words with a serious attitude. The final word was just one.
“Average.”
“This is driving me crazy. It’s not helpful at all.”
I can’t go around polling other couples for statistics.
If only Lau were here, they would answer refreshingly. I never thought I would miss casual chats with that royal princess.
“I usually advise the members to actively seek out other activities with their spouses.”
Tanya said that. It was sound advice based on basic principles. Well, if you expend energy outside, you won’t have the energy to think of anything else at home, and you’ll fall asleep right on time.
“Originally, there wasn’t much to do in the marquisate, so I suggested bringing their spouses along for demon hunting. But then, they tend to get so disturbed by the gruesome scenes that they end up taking a rest that day.”
“Demon hunting? Acella would be the best at that.”
“Yes. The director is rather useless.”
“I know.”
“Now that there’s plenty to enjoy in the former country, if it feels burdensome, you could increase outdoor activities.”
“Well, it’s not that it feels burdensome.”
I do enjoy spending time with Acella.
I just thought too much and started worrying here and there.
“Outdoor activities, huh.”
Now that I think about it, I skipped something.
*
Returning to the mansion with Boris as my escort, Cervus greeted me.
I knocked on the door to the office on the second floor of the main hall. Inside, Acella was handing a document she had just prepared to her secretary.
“Lars.”
Seeing me, she smiled and set down her quill, shaking her hair free as a sign that she was done with work.
We walked down the corridor together back to our room. Around this time, her steps always felt light and excited.
As the maids served tea at the table, she unbuttoned my vest while narrowing her eyes.
“Lars, you smell like alcohol. Where have you been?”
Acella teased me, patting my shoulder and sniffing around. Honestly, she has a ghostly intuition.
“I must have spilled some disinfectant alcohol.”
Upon hearing my excuse, Acella’s eyes narrowed devilishly.
“Hmm, let’s just go with that. It’s not too late anyway.”
And then, Acella danced playfully, teasing me with her waist. Is such open affection a good thing or a bad thing?
“Lars, praise me.”
“Praise you for what?”
With a swoop, Acella wrapped her arms around my neck.
“I missed you so much today, waiting for nine hours for your return. Isn’t that a smart wife?”
That’s a good thing. I concluded that.
Unable to hold back a smile, I gave her a light kiss and handed her a gift. It was a well-wrapped box.
“Here, for holding out so well.”
“Oh my, isn’t this from Montblanc? It’s a popular shop. I heard it takes an hour just to queue. The lady praised it so much.”
“Bruno worked hard.”
“Is being a nobleman really that good? I’ve always wanted to try it.”
It’s tea time with Acella. Unlike when we sat across at the imperial family, we pushed the chairs together and snuggled side by side.
With her left arm linked with mine, Acella took a bite of the Montblanc, her face lighting up with a smile.
“If I eat a snack before the evening check-up, my blood sugar measurement won’t be accurate.”
“You’re the best doctor on the continent. You can figure this out easily, right?”
“Even if I don’t know, I need to know.”
As I leaned closer, Acella cheerfully responded with a cute tone.
I suggested one idea to her. It was the outdoor activity I had thought of earlier.
“Acella, do you know about this culture called honeymoon?”
“I’ve never heard of that. What is it?”
“We thought something felt empty after getting married, and we realized we hadn’t done it. Newlyweds typically go on a trip right after getting married. To the sea or an island, scenic places, for three days or a week.”
Acella’s eyes sparkled at the word ‘trip’.
“Just the two of us?”
“Escort will accompany us, but we should ensure they don’t interfere. It’s basically a private wedding anniversary trip.”
Acella seemed excited and shook her shoulders.
“I wanna go! Why are you just now telling me such a good story? It sounds like so much fun! Where should we go? The Magic Nation? The Academy Territory?”
“Why, planning to go write a paper there?”
That was classic Acella, always filled with thoughts of magic. She pouted her lips and gave a cute smile.
I suggested an alternative.
“How about the sea?”
“The sea… sounds good. I’ve never been.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Even the last time I went to watch a hunt, it was all inland areas. When it came to overseas, it was all just the kingdom during the martial arts conference. I went to the Elf Forest too. Oh, does the Demon Realm count as overseas?”
“It sounds fun, the sea.”
“Where shall we go?”
Filled with enthusiasm, Acella dashed to grab a map of the continent from the drawer.
“Here, if we go beyond the Count’s Territory, we head straight west to the 7th Wharf.”
“That place is too cold and not really a tourist spot, it’s more of a countryside, you’d find it inconvenient to stay there.”
“Why, I understand the life of commoners now.”
“Really? You’ve got to stay at an inn that’s at the level of camping out in the Demon Realm? And you probably hear noises from the next room at night too.”
“…Is it really that bad? Do commoners stay in such places?”
Acella blinked at me, looking up with curiosity.
“But I am a bit curious about hearing noises from the next room. Doesn’t it sound fun?”
I know exactly what kind of imaginations Acella is having, but staying at an adventurer’s inn for a honeymoon sounds a bit much.
“What about here?”
I pointed at a spot lower on the map, indicating the Kingdom territory, which acted as a barrier between the human realm and the intermediate realm.
“The Kingdom, huh. That’s in the central region of the continent.”
“It’s a bit far, but it’ll be much better.”
In the warm western region of the kingdom, there are certainly towns developed as tourist spots.
“There might be some sea monsters, but we could ride a boat and have fun, and there are wide sandy beaches.”
“Sandy beach… that sounds fun. Alright, awesome.”
After that, the two of us spent quite a while looking around the map together.
Having spent a long time in the imperial family, Acella didn’t know many places beyond what she saw in books. My experience was all from traveling gates for strategies, yet I shared what I knew as best as I could regarding the landscape.
Acella was deeply engrossed in what I shared; it was quite an enjoyable time.
Of course, as night deepened, she still pulled me to the bed, but who knows what the maids think as they change the bed sheets every morning, huh.
