Chapter 9: The Battle of Edd War.
After our time on Fishman Island an sudden increase in bounties, the journey into the New World was like a series of never ending tests.
Each island presented unique challenges, some more dangerous than others. While fending off Marines and other daring Pirates coming for us.
But something was looming on the horizon, an event that none of us could have foreseen, an encounter that would test the strength of the Roger Pirates to their very limits.
The tension had been building for weeks. Unbeknownst to most of the crew, Roger and Rayleigh had grown quieter, their faces grimmer than usual. It wasn't long before we all understood why. The news had spread like wildfire: Shiki the Golden Lion was coming for us.
Shiki had always been obsessed with Roger. Each time they crossed paths, Shiki tried to recruit him to his cause of world domination. And every time, Roger had laughed him off or defeated him in battle. But this time it was different.
Shiki wasn't coming alone. His infamous Golden Lion Armada was mobilized, with ships numbering in the much more than previous. The skies darkened with ominous clouds, and the winds howled as if in anticipation of the coming storm.
We were near the Edd War, a dangerous stretch of sea known for its treacherous whirlpools, when Shiki's fleet was spotted. Hundreds of ships, flying the flag of the Golden Lion, surrounded us on all sides. The Oro Jackson, our beloved ship, felt small in comparison to the monstrous fleet approaching.
Roger stood at the helm, a rare seriousness in his eyes. "Prepare yourselves," he said in a voice that cut through the tension. "This won't be an easy fight."
We all knew it. This was no mere skirmish. Shiki had come with the intent to annihilate us.
The wind grew fiercer, and the sea roared as Shiki's massive fleet closed in. Standing on the deck of his largest ship, Shiki himself appeared, his golden mane of hair flowing in the wind, his eyes gleaming with a wild, dangerous light.
"Roger! You can't escape this time!" Shiki bellowed across the waters, his voice booming like thunder. "Join me with the apocalyptic weapon you acquired and my years of planning, we can Conqueror the world".
Roger smiled, that fearless, defiant grin that we had all come to know. "You already know the answer, Shiki!" he called back. "I'll never join you, and I'll never bow to your ambitions!"
With that, the battle erupted.
Cannons fired from every direction. The air was thick with smoke, the sea trembling beneath the might of the bombardments. But the Oro Jackson wasn't just any ship. With Rayleigh commanding the helm and Gaban leading the charge, we moved like a dancer in the storm, weaving through enemy ships, striking at their weak points.
Rayleigh, the Dark King, was a force of nature. He stood at the bow of the ship, his sword gleaming as he deflected cannonballs with effortless swings. Beside him, Scopper Gaban wielded his twin axes with deadly precision, cutting down anyone who dared board our ship. The rest of the crew fought fiercely, every man proving why they were part of the Pirate King's crew.
As for me, I found myself face-to-face with some of Shiki's most dangerous men. With my sword in hand and Haki flowing through my body, I cut down one after another, trying my best to keep pace with the ferocity of the battle. But it wasn't easy. Shiki's fleet was massive, and their strength formidable.
It was then that Shiki himself descended from his ship, using his Fuwa Fuwa no Mi powers to float through the air, bringing with him a barrage of massive ships, hurling them at us like missiles.
The sheer destruction he was capable of was terrifying. Whole ships were lifted into the sky, only to be dropped onto ours. The crew scattered, dodging debris and cannon fire.
"Stay close, Thomas!" Rayleigh called, his voice cutting through the chaos. "This is going to get rough!"
As if on cue, Shiki landed back on the deck of his ship, his presence sending a shockwave through his armada. He was a towering figure, his golden swords gleaming as he glared at Roger.
"One last chance, Roger!" Shiki growled. "Join me, or I'll sink you to the bottom of the sea!"
Roger simply chuckled, standing tall as he drew his sword. "You know, Shiki, you always did like to talk too much."
With that, the two titans clashed.
Shiki's golden swords met Roger's cutlass with a deafening crash. The sheer force of their strikes sent shockwaves through the air, and the sea itself seemed to tremble beneath their feet. Lightning crackled in the skies above as the two legends exchanged blow after blow, neither giving an inch.
But Shiki had underestimated Roger. Even with his massive fleet and his powerful Devil Fruit, Roger was a different breed of pirate. His Haki was overwhelming, his attacks brutal and precise. Every swing of his sword seemed to carry the weight of the world behind it, and it wasn't long before Shiki began to falter.
Still, the Golden Lion wasn't one to give up easily. With a roar of fury, he summoned more ships from the sea, sending them crashing down on us. But Roger wasn't fazed.
"Rayleigh! Gaban! Now!" Roger shouted.
Rayleigh and Gaban moved as one, unleashing a devastating combo attack that cleaved through the falling ships, reducing them to splinters. It was a sight to behold, the legendary duo working in perfect harmony.
I found myself drawn into the fray, my heart pounding as I fought alongside them. My Conqueror's Haki flared unconsciously again, knocking out dozens of Shiki's men as I pressed forward. This was the first time I had tmunleashed some of my power in such a large-scale battle, and the thrill of it was intoxicating.
In the end, it was Roger who stood victorious. With a final, earth-shattering blow, he sent Shiki crashing to the deck of his ship, his golden swords shattered, his fleet in ruins.
But before we could finish him off, a violent storm hit, the sea turning into a raging torrent of whirlpools. The chaos of the weather worked in our favor, allowing us to retreat.
The Battle of Edd War had ended, and though we had won, all knew that this was just the beginning. Shiki would be back again someday, except me who knew that Shiki would be on a huge break for his recovery.
The challenges ahead would only grow more dangerous. But for now, we stood together, battered a little but unbroken, ready to face whatever the New World had in store for us.
As the crew celebrated our survival, Roger looked out at the horizon, a small smile on his face.
"The seas are getting more dangerous," he said quietly, almost to himself. "But that's what makes this life worth living."
I couldn't help but agree. The New World awaited, and with it, the promise of adventure, danger, and glory.
