The Disastrous Life of Saiki

Chapter 16: Satoshi Special

(Satoshi walks home from school, hands in his pockets, looking around aimlessly. He takes his time, stopping to check out random things a stray cat, a bright poster, or a strange-looking rock. Today feels just like any other day.)

Satoshi (thinking): What's that over there? Oh, just a tree. I'll keep going.

(As he walks, he notices a group of classmates chatting nearby. He slows down, pretending to be interested in something else, hoping they won't notice him.)

Satoshi (thinking): Just act casual. They won't even see me. Just look at the ground... or the sky... or that sign!

(Suddenly, he spots a weird man hanging around. The guy has huge teeth that look cartoonish, and he's staring at Satoshi. Feeling uncomfortable, Satoshi pretends to inspect a nearby bush, trying to avoid eye contact.)

Strange Man (grinning widely): Hey kid, what are you doing? Lost or something?

(Satoshi looks over, blinks, but doesn't say a word. Instead, he acts like he's fascinated by the bush and ignores the man completely.)

Satoshi (thinking): Why is he talking to me? Just leave me alone!

(The man, confused by Satoshi's silence, decides to keep talking. Satoshi shuffles past him, pretending to be interested in the grass on the side of the road.)

(Saiki, who has been watching from a distance, raises an eyebrow. He's impressed by Satoshi's ability to stay calm, but the strange man's presence annoys him.)

Saiki (thinking): What's this guy's problem? Can't he see Satoshi just wants to be left alone?

(As Satoshi walks away, the man follows him, still trying to talk.)

Strange Man: Hey, I'm talking to you! Why are you acting weird? You think you're better than me?

(Saiki can't take it anymore. With a small flick of his wrist, he uses his powers to trip the man just as he steps forward. The man stumbles and falls face-first onto the pavement, his big teeth clattering and breaking apart.)

Satoshi (looking back): Whoa, did that just happen?

(Saiki watches with a satisfied smirk, knowing he shouldn't have interfered but feeling it was worth it for Satoshi. He shakes his head and turns away.)

Saiki (thinking): You mess with my friends, you get what you deserve. Even if it was just some weird guy...

(Satoshi finally looks back, unsure whether to laugh or feel sorry for the man. He shrugs, feeling a mix of relief and surprise.)

Satoshi (thinking): Well, that was unexpected. But it's nice to know someone's looking out for me, even if I didn't ask for it.

(With a little smile, Satoshi continues his walk home, unaware of the unusual friendship he shares with Saiki.)
