Chapter 51: Spying on Magic Power
He hurriedly put out the flames. However, the knight novel's exterior was already burned yellow.
The knight novel was called [Vulture Knight Staffener's Expedition Notes]. Strictly speaking, it resembled more a biography. The novel narrated the tale of a Sky Knight called Staffener Vulture soaring the sky atop a dragon-type magic beast, a Vulture, and blazing a trail for the Blast Furnace Kingdom.
The story was quite dull, but the content was quite detailed and reliable.
Among the mult.i.tude of chaotically-fabricated knight novels, this novel could be said to be clear and orderly. Liszt had already read it three times. He believed the story to be mostly true.
Even the Vulture Family might still exist in the Blast Furnace Kingdom.
“A pity, this was a good book. I don't know if I can get a new copy the next time I go to the Tulip Castle.” Liszt lamented as he held the scorched novel.
Good books were hard to come by.
Suddenly, his eyebrows jumped up. Looking at the burnt cover, he noticed that a layer of the cover was coming off, exposing a golden color at the corner. The cover seemed to have something hidden inside.
When he lightly brushed with his fingers, a layer of the cover split open with cracking sounds and came off, revealing the golden color beneath.
“There was indeed is something hidden inside!” Liszt's sense of loss was replaced with surprise. “This should be the so-called forgotten qi secret skill!”
The process of completing the maize sprite worm mission during the day and receiving the mission reward at night felt so natural.
The outer layer of the cover was completely rubbed off. Hidden underneath was a hand-sized gold-colored sheet of paper. Not really paper though. After Liszt studied it a bit, he found it to be a foil alike an aluminium foil, just that it was made from gold. The gold foil had closely packed minute symbols and a qi operation diagram of the human body engraved onto it using the relief technique.
“Magic Eyes qi secret technique – Staffener Vulture.” Slightly larger Serpentines were engraved at the top most of the gold foil.
“Sure enough, it is the qi secret skill Magic Eyes, a secret skill heritage of the Vulture Family. It seems like the novel I got is quite possibly a unique copy. This gold foil weighs as much as a gold coin. There should not be anymore such sheets in other copies of the book.”
After that, he took his eyes off the gold foil and fixed it on the study's bookshelf: “Is there something else concealed inside these books apart from the information regarding the invisible dragon and the [Magic Eyes] secret skill?”
In order to verify his thought, he used a knife to make a cut on the cover of each novel.
However, he found nothing else concealed behind the covers.
Obviously, there was only one this qi secret skill.
“The content of the [Magic Eyes] secret skill is very complicated and the qi operation involved is fairly fine and complicated. it is more complicated than the ultimate meaning of qi secret manuals… It is a bit difficult to learn.”
Liszt felt that his comprehension ability was not bad.
He had quite quickly learned the [Fire Dragon Drill] and [Fire Surge Fluctuations] secret manuals and was nearly proficient at them. He still planed to learn archery from Marcus as he preferred long-range over melee attacks.
“Should I postpone the [Magic Eyes] secret skill and learn it later?” The thought just welled up in his mind, when he looked at the introduction of the secret skill on the gold foil and immediately decided not to follow it.
The introduction said: “The [Magic Eyes] secret skill can directly pry into the operation of magic power. Not even Great Wizards's Stealth can conceal one from the Magic Eyes.”
He instantly realized that this qi secret skill was still part of the chain mission regarding the invisible dragon: “Does it mean that I will be able to see the invisible dragon once I learn the [Magic Eyes] secret skill?”
Liszt was clear about what he had to do next.
He first experimented with the smell from the smoke gra.s.s. He found out that the juice the gra.s.s exuded a very strong and pungent smell, yet it still fell short to the smell released when the gra.s.s was ignited.
He gave orders for the smoke gra.s.s to be reaped and dried under the sun. Also, a ‘beacon' specially prepared to ignite the smoke gra.s.s and attract the invisible dragon was built on the dairy farm.
A tunnel meant for taking refuge was being excavated underneath the beacon.
Also, the beacon was used to tie the cows around it. Before the invasion of the invisible dragon, the cows would be smeared with the juice from the smoke gra.s.s.
Liszt had also ordered the excavation of a tunnel on a slope slightly away from the beacon. The entrance to the tunnel would be a camouflaged bunker.
According to his plan, he would hide there and supervise the invasion of the invisible dragon. After seeing the invisible dragon, he would let the servants ignite the smoke gra.s.s in the beacon and then have them hide in the tunnel. After confirming that the invisible dragon was satiated and flew away, he then would go above ground to see whether the invisible dragon had left its gem behind.
While standing on the slope where the tunnel was being excavated, Liszt was still reflecting on whether there was anything that he had overlooked.
“If it is the completion of the mission that triggers the reward, that would mean that the invisible dragon would come to the Flower Town after I settled down the thorns sprite worm… Is the mission controlling the invisible dragon or is it a coincidence guided by the mission? I can attempt to settle down the thorns sprite worm at any time and the invisible dragon still will invade the Flower Town following the completion of the mission?”
Quite enigmatic.
There was no answer for the time being.
He had to strive to complete every smoke mission, so that he would strengthen himself and develop his fief.
“Liszt, it is not a simple job to dig a tunnel from here to the Thorns Woods. And I still don't know what your reason for doing this is.” Gort commanded the commoners to excavated the tunnel according to Liszt's wish.
“Teacher Gort, you don't need to know. It is not that I do not trust you, but rather that it is a secret of mine. You only need to move all the dairy farm's serfs to another place for a day when I notify you.”
“Alright. The Flower Town is your fief, and no one can go against your wishes. I will naturally comply.”
“That's good.”
“So, you really want to settle down the thorns sprite worm in the Thorns Woods? That piece of woods is not big. It is not a good place for settling down.”
“I have my reasons.”
“Oh, it doesn't matter. Anyway, the thorns sprite worm is not a useful sprite worm as it has no influence on the agricultural development.”
“Every sprite worm has a unique role, it is just that we have yet to find it. Perhaps one day a magic ingredient born in the thorns will be discovered.”
“Haha, I hope so.”
The project was in full swing. Although no one understood why Liszt wanted this done, but there was no one who would dare to defy him. In the Flower Town, no matter what Liszt wanted to do, including murder and arson, there was no one who would dare to oppose him.
The tunnel was being excavated day in day out.
He started practicing the [Magic Eyes] secret skill in the castle. This qi secret skill was quite complicated. However, with his comprehension ability, he very quickly got the hang of it.
Long story short, using the eyes as a bridge allowed him to produce a resonance between his qi and the magic power of the outside world. Magic power was a fairly mystical power that emitted fluctuations at all times. He preferred to call this sort of fluctuation radiation emitted by magic power.
Perceiving the radiation by treating the eyes as radars, this was the theory behind the [Magic Eyes] secret skill. It was a secret skill with a non-combat nature.
After delving into it for five days straight, Liszt had finally accomplished the final qi operation technique, employing the Magic Eyes for the first time. Right at this moment, looking at his eyes in the mirror, he seemed to see the irises of his sapphire-colored rotating, with countless stars flowing inside the rotating irises. They looked very mysterious and abstruse.
Enchanting and beautiful.
“Can my eyes charm any girl?”
He cast his gaze out the window. Marcus was teaching qi to the four retainer knights. Although they were already past their prime, but with hard work and dedication, they still had a chance at attaining qi.
At this moment, Marcus looked like a cyan figure to Liszt.
Not far away, Tremblingwoods matching itself against a stone looked like a dull yellow figure.
“This is how the wind-attributed qi of Marcus and the earth-attributed magic power of Tremblingwoods are perceived by the Magic Eyes… Will it be also effective against the invisible dragon?”
