The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

New student

We spent about ten minutes getting to know each other. The other three girls are called Joanna, Lucie, and Ismelda. (Author’s note: names are random.)

The beds were so comfortable that we fell asleep immediately. The next morning, we went to the Great Hall together to have our breakfast.

When we entered:

"RAVENCLAW!"

It was a voice we knew well.

"Was that the voice of the Sorting Hat?"

It was Cho who asked the question.

"It certainly sounds like it."

We saw the teacher from yesterday, whose name we learned was McGonagall, approaching us with a very pretty girl with white hair. Her eyes were purple and had a cold look.

"Hello, I present to you Marie Saturn, who will be your classmate for the next 7 years."

"Professor, why wasn’t she at the ceremony yesterday?"

The one who asked the question was Marietta.

"I was born to Muggle parents and didn’t know where Platform 9 ¾ was. By the time I figured it out, the train had already left. So, I tried to contact the school, and when I finally managed to reach them, it was very late at night, so it was decided that I would come to school the next day."

She replied, clearly frustrated that the process wasn’t more straightforward for someone who didn’t know. Now that she mentioned it, I remembered McGonagall calling that name several times, but no one had come forward.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and will ensure that a wizard or witch is available to guide Muggle-born students to the platform in the future."

It took them so long to make a decision like that.

"Nice to meet you Marie, I’m Evelyn Longbottom. If you have questions about the magical world or courses, don’t hesitate to ask me. However, I won’t be able to help you find your way around the castle because I don’t know it well yet."

"How could a student in my class, who looks like a 10-year-old girl, know so much about the courses?"

"Miss Longbottom is a special case, but you can trust her. She is the smartest of the first years, if not of all the students in the school. She just needs more practice in sorcery; otherwise, she could already be a graduate."

Marie looked at me with a bewildered expression.

"I wouldn’t go that far, Professor McGonagall. Some subjects have been studied in depth, but in others, I have only a good foundation."

I immediately stopped McGonagall’s flattery because I know it could make me proud and complacent, leading me to stop researching the origin of magic.

The other girls gathered around Mary to talk with her.

"It would be better to talk while eating."

As I said that, my stomach, along with those of several other girls, rumbled.

"Before you start eating, here’s your schedule for this year."

Looking at it, we saw that our first class as students was Potions with Hufflepuffs in the dungeon with Professor Severus Snape. The class would start at 10:30 (Author’s note: I have no idea how the schedules work, so I’m making this up).

"Great, we’ll have some time to explore the castle in more detail during this free time."

Cho was happy, and I was too, because after all, the castle is so big that it would be sad to arrive late just because we got lost.

After eating, we walked around the castle, discovering hidden recesses such as passages concealed by tapestries. There is also moving stairs, which were annoying because that could lead us astray.

Mary’s eyes were shining the entire time, and I heard him mumble that magic was fascinating..

At one point, we were watching two suits of armor fighting when an ectoplasmic figure appeared and threw a pie at my face.

Thanks to my katana training, I managed to dodge it.

"You managed to dodge it, but next time, I'll get you."

We wondered what this was all about and later talked to a phantom about our encounter with him. He explained that his name was Peeves, a poltergeist who had appeared out of nowhere in the school.

After bidding farewell to the ghost, it was high time to head to our Potions class.
