Chapter 14: A Night to Remember
Suddenly a heavy rain is pouring. The café was quiet now, Kazuma and Yusuke having left hours ago. All left in the café is Ren and Kazuha drinking just the two of them for the afterparty. The soft hum of the refrigerator was the only sound breaking the stillness, but Ren's mind was anything but calm.
He watched Kazuha as she swayed slightly, a flushed smile on her lips, her long black hair cascading down her back. The warmth from the few drinks she'd had after her birthday celebration clearly had an effect on her, making her bolder than usual.
"Ren..." Kazuha's voice was a little slurred, but it was the way she said his name that made his heart skip a beat. There was something in her tone- something that made his pulse quicken. "You're always so sweet to me."
He smiled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, it was your birthday. You deserve it."
Kazuha giggled, stepping closer to him, her steps a little unsteady. Ren instinctively reached out to steady her, his hands gently gripping her arms. But instead of backing away or settling down, she looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint.
"I've had such a good time tonight," she murmured, her voice dropping lower. "But you know what would make it even better?"
Ren's mouth went dry. He had no idea what she was going to say next, but the way she was looking at him-like she was seeing him in a new light-made his nerves flutter. "What's that?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
Kazuha leaned in, so close he could feel her breath against his neck. "You."
His heart stuttered in his chest. This was different from their usual banter, different from anything they'd ever said to each other. He swallowed hard, unsure of how to respond. "Kazuha... you've had a bit to drink..."
She giggled again, and Ren's stomach flipped as she pressed herself closer, her hands sliding up his chest. "I know. But that doesn't change how I feel."
Ren's hands trembled as he tried to keep his grip on reality. He'd always known how he felt about Kazuha-how deeply he loved her, even if he was too shy to ever fully express it. But this... this was her making the first move, and it was throwing him off balance.
"Are you sure?" His voice was soft, cautious, even as his heart raced with the hope that maybe-just maybe-this was real.
Kazuha nodded, her lips brushing against his ear. "I'm sure, Ren. I want you."
