Finished, maybe...
Hello, dear readers!
As of today, The Birth of the New World is finally concluded, sort of... As I have stated in previous chapter's author's notes, this story will be coming to an end with Book 4. I have left it open for the possibility of a fifth book, but that is for the future to determine. I am doing this for a couple of reasons, which are:
1 - This story was always intended to act as a sort of prelude in its entirety. For those who have read the synapsis, you will know that this story is about how a modern world [Ours] is turned into a fantasy world like the ones you might see in other stories. Ones where it is always inevitably revealed that their fantasy world is built on the remains of an ancient, advanced civilization. [Again, usually ours.]
2 - By this point in the story, Lain is now already probably the strongest in the world, excluding the World Tree which is a literal god. At this point, she has no real competition. If the story is to continue giving her proper challenges, it isn't going to be in combat unless I suddenly start throwing isekai Heros at her with bullshit powers or god-like monsters from beyond the void. And even if that were to happen, it wouldn't be for a couple thousand years in story or something. It is simply far too soon for anything like that to be happening yet. Further, having an OP protagonist can be boring to read if it isn't done correctly, and I don't want to mess it up. To put it simply, an problems that could posibly show up from the point forward could just be countered with, 'Just have Lain fix it.'
3 - As I have mentioned in a previous post, I just recently got hired at a new job, and for obvious reasons, my priorities are going to be on keeping that job. As much as I love writing as a hobby, at the end of the day, that is what it is. A hobby. It regretful doesn't put money in my wallet, as posting on Patreon didn't work out. So, I am limiting myself to writing one story at a time rather than juggling two like I have been. My writing time will now be spent on my other story, The Dungeon's Worst Little Mistake. If you haven't checked it out yet, you really should. So far, people really seem to be enjoying it, and I am having a lot of fun with it.
4 - I really need a chance to go back and do some work on the first couple of books for this story. Once I have the chance, they will be edited, cleaned up, and potentially put up on KU for sell. Until such time, my books shall remain on Royal Road, for anyone to read for free.
Now, if I were to continue into a Book 5. The story would probably end up being mostly about rebuilding and colonizing, Lain and Sky's wedding and building a family, and then the shifting of Lain becoming more of a side character as the story shifts to focus on other developments and she settles more into her role as Demon Queen. There would probably be a lot of time jumps involed.
Regardless of if I do continue this story or not, this isn't the last time that this world and potentialy its charaters will be seen again. For those of you who have read The Dungeon's Worst Little Mistake so far, you might have already picked on some clues that these two story take place in the same world, set only a few thousand years apart.
Now, for a bit of backstory if anyone cares. Please excuse any mad rambling, I am sort of just throwing up my brain on the keyboard here...
Over a year ago, I moved down to Florida with my family in one big move, looking to start a fresh life down here away from the hellish State that is OHIO. [I shudder even just typing those four letters...] Having escaped that horrible place and starting fresh here, I naturally started doing what any sane person would do. Job searching... Almost a year and half later, I finally managed to trick some poor saps into hiring me, idiots. Now they have to give me a paycheck, lol.
Disregarding the horror that is our current job market, I needed something to do and to fill the time while I searched for employment other than just playing video games and watching por-anime all day and progressively turning into a stain on my bed. So, I decided to pursue a childhood dream of mine and give writing a book a try. I had attempted this when I was younger on three separate occasions, but each time ended with me just staring at a blank word document for a couple of hours before giving up and doing something else. I had ADD really bad when I was younger and was nowhere near as good at controlling it as I am now. Still, this is something that has been sitting rent free in my head for a very long time. And finally, I had an excessive amount of free time that I suddenly needed to fill.
I started by just writing down ideas. I am a chronic daydreamer, so I have about a dozen or so stories up and running in my head at any given time. There is never a quiet moment inside of my skull, I am not alone in here, please send help! Anyways, please ignore that! I made a list. I pulled these stories out of my head and jotted them down to consider picking as my first story to write. Even now, as new ideas come to me, I will pull out my notes and jot them down. Most of them have to do with Lesbian romance... I just really like it, no I don't have a problem, and I can stop whenever I want.
Regardless of my crippling Yuri addiction, I made a list, checked it twice, and then decided on Lain's story to tell. I set up a general outline for how I wanted the story to start and where I wanted it to go, and when I was happy, I started writing. And writing. And writing... Before I knew it, I had tens of thousands of words written down and a story unfolding before me. Initially, it was a complete mess, but I cleaned it up as I went and just kept going. I kept growing it and writing more, not even posting anything yet by this point mind you, but just writing literally every chance I had. I would even get agitated if people would interrupt my writing time and I started sacrificing sleep in the name of the Word Gods.
That right there, the sacrificing sleep part, that was the origin of the perverted, masochistic, Kobold that is, She who Dances with the Sky. She dragged herself out of some dark corner of my brain and birthed herself right there into my story at 5 in the morning. She is the reason that more sexual elements ended up leaking into this story. It was originally going to be PG13! Ok, that's a lie, but she most certainly accelerated its eventual happenings and definitely pushed Lain's character from just being a harmless girl that might have sadistic urges and likes to tease and bully, to, Oh God, my character is an unhinged psychopath with barely contained urges. Please note, I did not actively choose this for Lain and Sky. I didn't sit down one day and say to myself, "You know what? I'm going to make my characters a couple of irredeemable degenerates." Nope! That shit just happened on its own. I may be the author, but I had no hand in that.
The point of my rambling above is this. I originally had a plan for how this story was going to roll out. I tried to follow it, that failed miserably, and now you have the story that you have before you. And it is all Sky's fault. Not mine, definitely not mine... Please excuse the fact that it is my fingers that are on the keyboard...
My undeniable innocence on this matter aside, we are now here, four books deep and with me proudly finishing [sort of] off my very first story. A crowning achievement, yay!!! Is it the best story ever written? Hahahaha, fuck no. This story is an absolute mess. Am I proud to have written it? YES. Oh, my gods, yes! I wrote a story. Four Books! [Not including DWLM] How many people can legitimately say that they've written a complete story from beginning to end? How many can say that they've written several books? Hells, I don't even give a shit that I'm not even published or anything yet, I feel like I just climbed a mountain and did a line of coke off a stripper's back! Whooooooo!!!!
My madness aside, I would just like to thank everyone that has stuck around and read this story of mine. Some have been with me from the beginning when I first started posting content, some have dropped off over the months, and some of you are recent readers that just hopped on the train. I love all of you, and even if this isn't the biggest and best story on Royal Road, I am incredibly thankful to everyone who has read it.
My specially thanks go out to the commentors, especially those that help by pointing out mistakes for me. You have no idea how much I love reading the comments and seeing people react and interact with my story. And again, to those who point out my mistakes and offer correction. I love you, I want to kiss you, please go out on a date with me. Have I told you how nice your hair is today? Because, damn, you are looking good! Is that a new shirt?
Anyways anyways! Thank you, one and all, for reading my story. I had fun writing it, I hope you had fun reading it, and I will be considering continuing it in the future. And finally and again, if you haven't already, please give my other story a read. The Dungeon's Worst Little Mistake is linked down below, and I am certain that many of you will enjoy it. Half of my current audience already is, and I look forward to seeing you in the comment section.
Thank you, love you, and see ya later, kennyevilmonkey.
