Chapter 72 - Not Going According To Plans
"But we don't know where we are. I mean, there are rooms everywhere, and this looks just like an office building. It is going to be hard finding a portal as we did in the previous floor. We have to work. Should we split up?", Eva asked.
"Staying together has worked for us so far. And it is clear that the marquess wanted us to split up. Right now, we are no longer constrained by Lucas going berserk. That means that we can go at our own leisurely pace.", Praneeth said.
"He is right. Together, we make a well balanced team, but separated, only I will probably survive, and that is only because I am good at surviving. If Eva and Angela faced the Minotaur alone, then they would be dead in minutes.", Lucas said.
"Minutes? I highly doubt that. I think that we can put a fight.", Eva retorted.
"The point is, we need to stick together so that any and all people that we face are going to be defeatable. Let us cover each others' backs, and make sure that we aren't left wide open. We are in foreign territory, and we have no idea how they can surveil us.", Praneeth interjected.
----------------------------------------------
"Damn it! He always comes and ruins my plans. I should have just made the barrier such that it repelled the goddamn bastard.", a cold and irritated voice came from the corner of a dimly lit room.
This was the same room that the Marquess was in before, and it was the marquess herself who cursed.
"And that damned idiot, Axar. When I told him to send reinforcements, the thought that struck his mind was to send werewolves? To supplement physical attacks with more physical attacks? Who the hell thinks like that. I should have known better than to trust a mercenary.", she shouted with frustration again.
The rest of the room was silent, and no one seemed to be within it.
"Lucas is not agitated any more, and now the poison will not work any longer. This is going the worst way that it could. Now, I have to kill the vessel to release the wolf, and that is going to take so long.", she grumbled.
"Should we take care of all the people around him?", a voice came from the other corner of the room.
"Yeah, you do that. Try and split them up once more. See if they will fall for the bait this time. If all that fails, then take Praneeth and toss him out of the building. You know what? Let us just do that. Let us toss them all out as they go to the next floor. I don't know why I waited this long to do this. Maybe I wanted to seem them all dead or something. But I shouldn't have. Send them all out except for Lucas. After Lucas is left, start barraging him with attacks, and make him weak. Start appealing to Fenrir, and make Fenrir rebel.", the Marquess said.
"Should we use that?", the voice asked.
"You can go ahead. It is not like staying here and collecting dust will do it any good.", the marquess shrugged.
"We shall then.", the voice said.
The marquess nodded, and she turned around to look outside the window. This time, what she saw was completely different from what she saw when she was speaking with Axar.
In front of her eyes, Lucas, and the rest of the council, were walking down an empty hallway, and all the rooms were laid out with their ceilings open for some reason.
"This better work. Oh my god, this day is so unlucky. I need to talk to Atë. Looks like she has been a little offended by something I did, cause she clearly cursed me on this important day.", she grumbled.
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Why do I feel like someone is talking about me? Like something really bad is going to happen to me?", Lucas suddenly said.
"It just means that you are a narcissist. Now keep hearing. From where are you getting all that chatter from? It can't be from every single one of these rooms.", Arthur said.
"First of all, I am not a narcissist. My premonitions and my instincts are usually right, far more than yours ever will be. So don't give me that. And next time, when you ask someone to do something for you, then you better be a little respectful.", Lucas snapped back.
"Cough, cough, hypocrite cough, cough.", Eva started fake coughing.
Lucas glared at her, but he did not respond. He did not have a response to that. He shook his head.
"Finding the source is not that easy. They made it confusing on purpose. Some of this noise is coming from speakers all around us. That means that it is either an ambush or just a fake to throw us off. Either way, they are just trying to make us waste our time.", Lucas said.
"That just makes me wonder. Why do they want to stall? I mean, they had years to prepare, and yet they still have to stall. Looks like bad planning to me.", Michael commented.
"This plan has brought us near to our knees with its intricacies. I mean, just the fight on the first floor caused Raphael so much trouble, that he didn't get to us in ten minutes, and it took him longer.", Praneeth said.
"So then why would they stall? It feels like it has something to do with the one variable that they couldn't control - Lucas. They certainly did not expect our interference. We were surprised that Lucas called us as well. I mean, Michael called us. But anyway, maybe they are stalling to do something to Lucas.", Michael said.
"This isn't just an idea that is running around in your head, is it?", Praneeth asked Michael.
