Tales of Death´s Daughter

Chapter 2.202

“Three … two … one!” A little streak of death blasted out of my index finger, penetrating the wanton we were in and wrecked the innards of the locomotive until it exited on the other side.

“Nonono!” Aska shouted out, exactly as the train tipped over because the new rail lines weren’t built and we crashed into the ground which made us fly through the whole room and meet the walls of the wagon right away.

Screeching sounds erupted from everywhere, glass shattered all around us and finally we were flung out of the train, slamming into a wall hand in hand.

The train dug through the street with its nose for several more metres until it flipped over and slithered across the ground, coming to an abrupt halt as it crashed into a wall.

“Lucinda?” Aska asked with both of us having miraculously survived the crash. “Destroying property isn’t that fun when it’s yours.”

“But the train wasn’t mine?” I asked and presented him my tongue sticking out of my mouth.

“What have I raised?” He asked himself and stood up slowly while dusting off his attire.

“Yourself.” I chuckled a little but my happiness was ruined the moment the train started to disappear.

“What are you waiting for?” I wasn’t moving at all, but rather looked at him a little confused.

“Teleport me?” I demanded and hugged my knees pitifully.

“Walk yourself.” He clicked his tongue in annoyance and looked around us to find our destination in this mess I caused.

“No.” I said, but stood up nonetheless. “But if you insist …” Following the street, we quickly realised we had no idea where we were.

“I think we have to go left here.” I commented at an intersection he wanted to cross right away.

“No? It’s straight.” He said a little confused.

“But there is a row of houses at the end of this street. Trust me, it’s a dead end.” I stated. I was pretty sure I had seen this street before on my way back to the walls and I had to say I wasn’t happy with the result.

“I’ll go check it out.” He still said, not believing me in the slightest.

“Do that. I’m going my way.” We both didn’t want to admit that either of us were wrong. And thus, we parted ways under the moonlight and I followed the street to my left full of confidence.

It turned out that the street he was walking on wasn’t a dead end. It lead to the beach. Mine went a full circle, which was why we met at the same intersection mere minutes later.

“Teleport?” I asked yet again.

“Teleport.” He snipped his fingers and with that, we reappeared right next to a sleeping demon king. “Wake up. We have work to do.”

“… Milord?”

“Where is Hannah? I really missed cuddling with her.”

“In the opposite room … the twins are currently … I don’t know where they are.” Great! As long as these two chatterboxes weren’t with Hannah, everything was fine. Whistling not very innocently, I flashed both of them a cute smile and left the room. Then, I banged onto Hannah’s closed door until she unlocked it for me and let me inside.

“Hannah! It’s so nice to see you again! We haven’t seen each other for what … four weeks?” I asked happy to be reunited with her.

“It was a single day.” She stated a bit tired.

“Yeah and because of this I … what the heck did you say?” Did I understood that correctly? Did she really say …

“You were gone for a single day.” She repeated, closed the door being me and locked it once more.

“Oh … I hate it when time moves differently on other planets. But whatever. We have so much to talk about!” I said and pointed at my ears. I didn’t know if it would work against Aska or not, but she turned the room soundproof with her magic right away.

“How long can you hold that up?” I asked slowly, listening to every bit of sound coming through the door into the room.

“The whole night.” Well, in that case it was time to test that out and bore everyone listening in out of his mind.

“That’s great! I always wanted to talk a out this recipe I picked up a few years ago.” And so, we talked about mundane stuff while I pushed her back onto the bed and abused her as my pillow. I really did miss that sensation after all.

But in the middle of the night, I shifted the conversation away from this mundane stuff.

“Say, do you still have your backpack? It was such a great one! I can still remember the day when we bought it very clearly.” I asked her while pinching her side a little.

“Yeah, I do. We spent a lot of money on this one after all.” She told me and hugged me closely.

“Say, why are we talking about this useless stuff? I’d rather want to know what happened to you.” She whispered into my ear, not knowing that there was the potential someone could listen in anyways.

“Aska and I … he showed me the demon king was right. Most of the gods are using this world to create a fantasy story and we are in the middle of it.” I gave her the gist of it, without pointing out how furious I was to be one of their main characters.

“So he is here? Do you trust him?” Aska was … a complicated case. This time I didn’t doubt he wanted to end this show, but I couldn’t trust him fully. I would never be able to, knowing myself.

“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. We are a couple … but I cannot trust him that much, especially when he couldn’t answer me why Irminsul is gone.” I whispered into her ears, shielding anyone from lip reading.

“So we are still working against him?” Hannah asked quietly.

“No. Not for the time being. Especially because he has shown some interest in Luna’s soul … I think he might be able to help me out a little.” He fiddled around with it rather often as if he had an idea to resurrect her. So far, he didn’t tell me what it was even as I asked him, but the interest was there.

“Even though he might be the reason she is dead?” Hannah asked concerned. But even if he steered everything to happen like it did, it wouldn’t change anything, at least for me.

“I … as long as I can have her back.” That my wish. And I would do everything to fulfil it.

“He knows your weaknesses, Lucinda.” And Luna was mine, along with a few others … but even then I had to try.

“I … it’s different this time. At least that’s what I want to believe.” I claimed while pressing my cheek onto her collarbone.

“Hmm … do whatever needs to be done to make you happy again. I want to see you smile again … honestly.” She explained quietly and I pushed myself up from her.

“I will do that … right now.” I told her, searched for the flask in one of the black dresses pockets and soon found it. Luna’s soul was still shining brightly inside of it, gifting me hope I didn’t know I possessed. As swiftly as I could, I unlocked the door and strolled out of it, before I followed Aska’s voice into a study, filled with all kinds of books.

“Aska, we need to talk.” I said, grabbed his hand and pulled him away from the surprised demon king. Aska didn’t say anything as I dragged him into a vacant bedroom and closed the door behind us.

And then, I presented him the flask containing Luna’s soul yet again.

“I want her back.” I explained drily.

“You could resurrect her as an undead.” He proposed without thinking about it too much.

“I want her alive.” I growled unhappily. He knew I didn’t want her as an undead, otherwise I would have done so days ago. But Luna wouldn’t be the same when I did that.

“Well, Irminsul is sadly very limited on this planet, just like I was.” I knew that as well. She already told me she couldn’t, but I still had hoped for a few days at least. But she didn’t help, or rather couldn’t and I didn’t know if that would change anytime soon.

“Tell me how I can do it.” I said determined.

“You … the stork.” Yeah, I liked storks as well. But I wasn’t one. I was a vampire.

“What?” I asked, not understanding what he wanted to say at all.

“The other way the more common gods are born is when one man and a woman decide to. But unlike humans, we need to transform a soul into a godly one, indestructible and filled with one of the two’s element. And in the end, the result of our love, stored for hundreds of years in your body grows from a mere cell into a baby.” He … he wanted a daughter? With me? But … was that even possible?

“We can … have her as our daughter? Wouldn’t she lose all her memories?” I muttered confused. I always thought I was infertile after all and so far, I didn’t have any signs a period which was usually required to have a baby.

“She would, but you could hold her in your arms for as long as you wish. As long as she doesn’t want her own body to be destroyed, nobody can take her away from you.” But maybe he could do it. He was a real proper god after all. Accepting right away was tempting, incredibly tempting. Just thinking about her made my heart ache, but at this point it was jumping with joy.

“I … I need to think about it.” I said and backed off a little as he grabbed my shoulders. Looking in his eyes, I saw that he wanted this was well, but for vastly different reasons. He wanted to chain me to him though Luna … while I … I just wanted her back.

“Give me a single night and you won’t need to think about it anymore.” He said while tears escaped my eyes.

“I … I will raise her. As a loving mother. And you won’t interfere, you won’t hurt her and you will leave her alone when I tell you to?” I demanded, sobbing with happiness and the pain of knowing this could lead to a massive disaster.

“She will also be my daughter … but if that’s what’s needed to bind us two together, I don’t mind it.” He hugged me tightly and refused to let go until I finally made up my mind.

I didn’t care about the possible consequences. I just wanted her back. I wanted to see her smile again, no matter what I would pay for it. And in the end, if he overstepped his boundaries and didn’t respect my wish to have my own space where he wasn’t influencing me or Luna in the slightest, I could still ruin everything he wanted.

In the grand scheme of things, he wouldn’t love her the way he loved me. Never would that happen, not with our narcissistic personality.

He wanted me.

And erasing my own memories would still ruin everything he schemed for.

And for Luna, I would do that. Because she did exactly the same for me. Two times already.

And I would do everything to repay that debt. He would only lose when he did anything to Luna.

With that in mind, his first kiss was way more enjoyable than every one of them before. Finally, I knew what my plan for the future was. And that was something to take joy in.
